Of course, "The President's Own" is renowned throughout the world, and I won't disagree. Especially when accompanied by the Silent Drill Team-superb!
When I attended the Massed Bands with the Royal Marines and Black Watch, they played the military marches of the U.S. When they struck up "Semper Fidelis" the place went wild and all the old Marines came to attention.
It was a very moving tribute and the Royals belted out that great tune with energy and respect.
Top notch band and top notch singer. She gives a lot back to the troops.....travels to war zones to entertain them. Kudos to all the men and women in harms way and kudos to Ms. Jenkins to giving them a bit of entertainment.
@sovietique76120 LOL the french army the best? Seeing as the french always just surrender anyway, you need to ask yourself do you really even need a army?
interesting that your claim as to the French army being the world's best is supported with an accolade to their finest regiment , a regiment comprised of Foreigners rather than Frenchmen.
la Légion étrangère , has traditionally been home to few Frenchmen. French members of La Legion were usually criminals enlisted for the promise of a new identity that comes with discharge.
We have had the pleasure to see and listen to the RM here in Norway too, it´s always a pleasure. Can somebody pls tell me the titles of the marches played here
I will leave that debate down to geographical location! THE best military band in my country, probably one of the best in the world! To quantify my original statement!
Like, totally awesome! Unfortunately, this video is hosed because it's a 16:9 widescreen image horizontally squeezed into a 4:3 frame. Way to go, babes!
Thanks, thats quite a compliment from someone coming from the USMC, professional and snappy as they are!. My respect goes out to you having served in veitnam and all the horrors associated with that dreadfull war, Looking back, I was probably very lucky having been in the Royal Navy during the times I was but loved it none the less and certianly remember how suberb this band was and has always been too!
Sorry for the delay in responding, but I've been a bit busy.
We Marines were an amphibious assault group and as such I had the pleasure of cutting through the seas in the Western Pacific several times when not into the bush.
I came to hold enormous respect for the Navy-being aboard an attack transport and watching a Destroyer slicing through the waves abeam of us was exhilarating. Especially as her deck was awash with spray from stem to stern.
Mike i couldnt agree more. Im a 27 year old (not 47 as my profile wrongly states) Bootie myself. July this year will be my 12th year as a Commando RM. I've never once regretted my decision to embark on this way of life, because thats what it,as you'll well know.I couldnt agree more. The Band of Her Majesties Royal Marines is without doubt second to NONE in the world. You stand proud chin up chest out when you march to their pomp and cocky sound. What a feeling to be a Royal Marine. A+++++++++++
dnMurphy. You can get the ball rolling at age 15 years and 9 months . Be sent for your PRMC after yor 16th...and commence training shortly thereafter. This may have changed but it as the cae in 1997 when i joined up.
DnMurphy also, my Birthday falls 28th May. As you can see July this year was my 12th year. July being 2 months after my own 16th. 12 years July this year. I believe thats correct :D
Her voice is very quiet, or perhaps it is the acoustics causing the drummers to drown her out. Either way I feel this song, in this performance, lacked the passion it deserves.
I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
A very crisp performance by the Royal Marines. Royal Albert Hall does not give them much space to perform on the floor. I wonder which band of the RM this is? The band numbers 36, is that the standard size for RM bands now? Down from 60 & 48 in recent years past?
i agree the royal albert hall floor space with the front row like that is slightly crampted for soilders who are used to the parade grounds at either protsmouth plymouth or chatham or at buckingham palace. i don't know how to tell which of the 3 bands it is but i would like to know.
Well! I was a Royal Marine back in 1949/50, and I still think they are the greatest. As for Katherine Jenkins......I, old man as I may be, am absolutely besotted! What a beautiful girl - and what a voice!!! She will go on to be a mega-star.
its hard to believe that i woz a young royal marines drummer 25 yrs ago..i neva bothered to look at anything like this b4..it brought tears to my eyes..

From an old worn out United States Marine who served with the 1st Marine Division in Viet-Nam, this is my favorite Military marching band.
In my opinion the Band of the Royal Marines is the finest marching band in the world today.

Second verse, 7:11-8:12
Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear: oh, clouds unfold!
Bring me my chariots of fire!
I will not cease from metal fight;
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
'Til we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.
RJY4356 3 years ago
First verse, 5:43-6:40,
And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?
And did thy countenance divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among those dark satanic mills?
