I love this movie. Nicholas Roeg is one of the few directors who can be rightfully called visionary. Even when his films were told in that fractured non linear style they were not at all imcomprehensible----just a little frusrating but in a good way that stimulates the mind instead of just being a passive viewer.
Funny you're all arguing about Brian Jones...I mght say he really was very cool in his day he was the premier rock star of the era that everyone wanted to be like...so I guess he had to go eh?! the character of Turner is based mostly on Brian this film is actualy what he was like they say...he really did haunt them..its even got his lover in it. So there you go.
anita pallenberg as the great tyrant/ the black queen of sogo, damn, she was definitely smoking hot in that movie!(barbarella,if some of you dont know what im talking about)
@toby099 did you read keefs book? there is alot of good brian stuff in it . also did you see the brian movie i forget what it is called also i dont know what is true what is false but it is a pretty good picture. i dont think it is a british film

@zappahart Brian beat the shit out of Anita. Keith was living with the two of them at the time {off and on.} Eventually she fell into Keith. Brian was the original "leader" of Stones not that he was the "general" or anything but he was the leader. He became very involved in drugs and less effective as a musician and weaker as a person. Though a precocious muscian Brian was not a song writer and I'm sure this bothered him as did Mick and Keiths success. Anita was beautiful but also ravenous.
@kentucy9999 it is a good story to read but i wouldn't want to actually live that life! i'm 44 now maybe it would be different in my early 20's i think it was kind of the same for my finances without the woman beating!
I was just watching an interview of one of the young girls from 'Gone With the Wind'. She had to have been in her 70's at least by then, but she looked pretty good. Anita looks like absolute crap, not as bad as Keith though. Drugs are terrible for you.
Nice to hear the real little girl's voice in this version, btw.
Yeah, he's great and a wealth of knowledge. I've hung out with him several times. I never had the guts to tell him this was my favorite of his work (he is bitter about the Stones). 'Natural Magic' from this soundtrack is my fave, love the slide/blues/raga thing.
gangster #1 borrowed heavily from this right down to the film stock, also stoned the supposed brian jones story.there seems to be two versions of this film too,i have one where james fox's boss the bald ,fat gangster's voice is dubbed over.very strange.
In the version I've got the little girl's voice is dubbed. I wonder if it's the same version you're talking about, because the Boss's voice seems dubbed in it too, but I never noticed the kid's voice having been dubbed 'til now.
Yes, but a little bit out of his mind. He swears he can hear the difference between two nearly identicle cheap-ass Japanese Teisco pickups. The only diffirence I could detect was where the fake polepiece holes were on the covers. But, what can you say about a guy who spends $100 on a guitar, but $10,000 on the amp system? I kid you not. Nice guy anyhow, and very generous with his knowledge.
YES. lets have the whole thing. think about all the young minds you'd be teaching. just keep this mantra in your heads, o artists: 'i'm not trying to Entertain you, i'm trying to Educate you.' peace.
i would never piss anita off....the stories i've read!!!

I liked this movie. It''s been years but
in USA we don't get many brit movies; so this was kinda neat to watch.

You're cracked....She might have been a femme fatale,,but she had a major influence (also musicaly)
on The Stones.
Most Stones'biographies will admit to that.
INfuckinDEED...they were big boys.
Jones had a chip on his shoulder anyway.

One of the most original British gangster movies of all time, without this film you wouldn't of had The Krays or Rocknrolla.
