Thank you for all the videos of how bad economically things are in the Portland area. There needs to be more of this on YouTube. I have been out of work now for over a year and no one at the Employment Department gives a damn and will not help you. I do not even go over there because all I hear is that they are so overwhelmed. They are blaming the actual people for being laid off for something I DID NOT EVEN DO. Also I cannot get a job because I use a walker from a car wreck that was not my falt
Correction at 3:23 No high-speed rail line in the world currently operates regularly at 400mp/h. The fastest operational speed on the Sanyo Shinkansen line is 186mp/h(300km/h). I don't know the data for TGV or ICE lines, but they are probably about the same. Not only is attaining high speeds important, but maintaining that speed is also. Shinkansens trains don't share tracks with local trains. TGV and ICEs do. Did anyone hear about China and Japan offering CA loans to help build SF to LA?
Interesting observation: There are FOUR railroad lines from the Willamette Valley to the Oregon Coast. From north to south, the Astoria Line, the Tillamook Line, the Toledo Line, and the Coos Bay Line.
Of the four lines, the State of Oregon has some form of ownership of three of the lines (Astoria, Tillamook and Coos Bay).
Of the four lines, only one of them is operating (the Toledo Line).
@MrSchizoaffective Yea, people will steal things and wait for the 5:15 out of town. Sorry I think they'll drive, they can carry more and get a way! Where do people dream this stuff up?
Taxpayer have to foot the bill eh? Well for a humdred years that taxpayer was the Southern Pacific railroad. Which payied taxes on everything. This tax money was used to build roads. I can hear the traffic going by on the road in the video! This road system burns up a trilion dollars of imported oil every year. Make people, many of whom hate us rich. You have what the government invests in. And they haven't invested in trains. Not yet.
It seems you do not ride trains. I do, along with 28 million other Amtrak riders. That doesn't include streetcar, commuter, or rapid transit riders which number the humdreds of millions of riders now. Amtrak has for the last 6 years been breaking ridership records every year! With little or no service. Gas is not 30 cents a gallon anymore and never will be. The reason Amtrak is 79mph over most of the country is the ATC systems have been ripped out.
High speed rail or higher speed rail benefits all trains on that line. That's why the highway lobby hates any passenger rail investment. Those dangerous at grade crossing can be taken out. Private companys will not make that kind of investment. Why would they? That's really a highway investment. But highway people don't want investment in rail. Meanwhile people have to wait for new 3 mile long trains or get killed! By improveing the tracks dangerous chemical cars travel safer accross the country
So let's see we don't know what's a head for the price of fuel. Only that's always gone up. We do know that nothing beats a train for moveing people and freight efficently. So you think we should continue to rip up these tracks. Do we rip up highways when their not used? There's no ships, because there's no trains. Why would a shipping company want to use trucks for freight. Humdreds of drivers and fuel tanks instead of one train with a engine or two????? Clinton cut trains he was a highway boy!
wraywroad, schmaywroad, biden is on the record sayint this administration will be the most "train friendly" administration EVER....... Their taking out the seats on NYC trains, wonder why ever???
@efreeme7 That's so they can get more people in the train without investing in more trains. This county untill now has only invested mainly in roads and airports because powerful lobbys of the highway and airlines run the transportation policy in Washington. Most of NY's rail transit city of 9 million is ripped up. 6th ave alone had three levels of trains at one time. A El, streetcars on the surface, and the subway. The els were torn down so they could get big trucks in the city.
@gwh21375 Government must do what private industry or people can not or will not do. We had a private transportation system. It was called railroads. The govenment taxed the train tickets, railroad real estate, fuel billions and billions of dollars and spent all this money includeing trust funds set up after they got most people driving to build roads and airports. Putting the private tax paying railroads out of business. Well guess what, the new fly and drive only system is no good.
@intercityrailpal With the new TA TA car made by a Indian company we will see 100's of millions of new drivers in China and India. The price of gas will skyrocket! 10-20 dollars a gallon. Our fly and drive transportation system is built on cheap oil. Which is gone! In a few years most air service will be gone! People will not be able to leave their homes, because of the cost of fuel. Trains are the most efficent form of transporation.
The Simpson Children blew it and it was taken by the state to become the park it is today in the late 20's or early 30's
There reader board at park that give the history of the timber baron and ships. Can't remember if the eldest Simpson was a sea captain.

Your really out of touch with what is going on i see. The so called high speed rail line is to be built from Eugene to Seattle
adb024 2 years ago
Why is California the only state with a REAL high-speed rail plan? We need newly-built rail systems intstead of using existing right-of-ways.
