  • I think it's time to redo this one since you got that nice Cam. it would be nice to see you clear

  • @Apockiller I have not changed a thing about my setup in years but I can now produce higher video and audio quality since YouTube let me do it now. I'll redo this one some day...

  • You surely have 'Neil Peart Syndrome'!. I've liked Rush since 75.Had NPS in the 80's myself.(Wish we had you tube then!) I never really cared for Tom Sawyer. But I think I'm gonna try to get a decent cover of it for my channel.(Its in the i-pod/isolated version) You ever think of playing Rush Differently? In your own style? I'm starting to realize as cool as this is, its a copy of another person.(and a good one dont take that wrong!) What if we got drummers to play one Rush tune there OWN way?

  • Awesome as usual! Keep it up. Love that epic center solo.

    -Owen

  • Great ass job man....

  • you rock man

  • nice

  • This is awesome too. May I suggest doing this in HD? I would love to add it as well.

  • Nice work. This inspired me to do my own version. check it out when you have time. Thanks.

  • Dude, you did it...

  • Amazing!!

  • Neil has said that this is the hardest song for him to play, yet you nailed it I've tried and find it nearly impossible. You are very talented. Thanks for posting. I'll continue to follow your videos.

    Cheers!

  • The most famous Rush song is Spirit Of Radio

  • fucking excellent man! Definitely very very good. Those drums are hard to perfect!

  • i have one question- how much did that set cost?

  • Call rush and tell them you can sub for Neil peart.

  • Excellent!!!!!

  • Ive been drumming for 35 years. This guy is good. Very good.

  • You can play anything!

  • Awesome, man!! Nice recording. What mics. did you use?

  • coming from a drummer that is a very hard song you kicked ass

  • @RussianDrummer92 Both great! ;)

  • You done it very well...good job!

  • I don't know how you guys do this. I can't even get my hands to do different thing from my feet! I can't type and talk at the same time. Arrrgh!

  • The new Neil Peart

  • That is awesome??

  • Not bad buddy!

  • Well done sir

  • GREAT PLAYING AND THE DRUMS REALLY SOUND GOOD WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT! GOOD JOB AND DON'T LET ANYONE GET YOU DOWN WITH THEIR COMMENTS!!!

  • well even neil said he feels awesome when he fully nails it. IMO this is one of the, if not THE toughest rock song to drum out. you did a pretty delicious job though dude. props for even looking this one in the face

  • Good one bro....really nice..gonna post on my fb wall

  • Yup, amazing!

Watching you play it has helped me fine tweek several bridges and cues. All those years playing it, you get used with certain ways and you forget about the real riffs. It is good going back to the origines every once in a while.

Playing Rush is a hard job, thats what I love about them music!

  • fucking amazing dude...you better be in a cover band...

  • Gotta admit, the drum solo gave me goosebumps. Awesome job!

  • Not bad at all my man. I thought you did a hell of a job!!! :0)

  • The 30 Yangs who gave him the thumbs down should have em hacked off , they obviously do not know this song aint an easy one to play

  • try burnout by green day

  • Astrotama I was wondering if u could play One Little Victory???? (also from Rush) I think that song is great!!!!! and difficult too!!!

  • @slipknotmetallik I have done it but it has been blocked by YT for copyright reasons. I'll send you a link to another site....

  • @Astrotama I would like to have that link too.. Please :)

  • @Astrotama could you send me a link too?

  • Whoa!!! I must say, that was AWESOME!! great job

  • Dude you fucking blew me away!

  • nao sei fla english

  • fuck me, not bad at all!!!

  • That was absolutely amazing. Great job man.

  • Rush kicks more ass in 1 minute than most bands do in their entire career.

  • One of my favorite rock tunes of all time and you hit the ball out of the park, fabulous job !

  • wow great job

  • Nice attention to detail, even Neil himself knows how hard that song is to play, and to play it right it demands a high level of skill and physical effort, Bravo!

  • Nice attention to detail, even Neil himself knows how hard that song is to play, and to play it right it demans a high level of skill and physical effort, Bravo!

  • How did mute the sound of the drum by Neil Peart?

  • daam boy! u do deliver, once again, that was spectacular...u rock!

  • Nice job!

  • Shit! ..That was frick'n great!

  • Great job man!!!!!

  • Bloody Brilliant. I try and play several Rush songs on the guitar and find them difficult to say the least . Just managed to nail the camera eye . when you nail the lead it's sooo satisfying .. can't play fast lead work though.

My lad has a drum kit , which I find enjoyable to play, but only some simple ac/dc drum parts .

  • great cover!

  • That....was....AWESOME!!!!

  • I should put something clever here, but my brain is just going AHHHHHHH YESSSSSSS HELL YESSSSSSS. I know it's a cliché, but "Tom Sawyer" is just the best ever--one of my faves as a vocalist and great fun on the set. Well done, man. :)

  • Fuck, that was just perfect.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em man, that was just epic.

  • shirt and all....

  • W0\/\/!! Thank you. That Ruled!

  • Very well played... Thank you

  • Good video & playing, Man!

  • Hey. By far the tightest, most precise and stellar "amateur" I have seen. You are a gift to drumming.

  • Dude you have epic skill 5 stars

  • Me likee!

  • Good playin'

  • @shirtgod I know the owner well and I had the chance to play on the kit the first time it was displayed to the public! Check my video of "Anthem", there is a picture of me playing the Slingerland kit at the end of the video.

  • @shirtgod I'm a big fan of PT. I own a lot of their stuff, even way before Harrison joined them, and I have seen them playing live I have learned several songs from "Deadwing" but I have not practiced them in a while....

  • Incredible my friend !!! thank You!

  • Very cool man good work.

  • awesome

  • I think you drumming is excellent. I love Tom Sawyer with Neil, and I think you do a very good job. I think Rush should keep you in mind if by some misfortune, Neil becomes injured or just needs to attend to some family matters for a brief bit. Keep up the good work.

  • LOOK AT UR SET!

  • all i have to say is wow thumbs up if you agree

  • wow that kit is massive how much do you think it cost you in all?

  • excellent

  • VERY nice job man!

  • nice job

  • Brilliant

  • wow that was awesome dude truly great job

  • @thegermanchannel212 At the time, Slingerland was one of the greatest companies in the world (if it was good for Buddy and Gene, it was certainly good enough for Neil). Kit tour: Some day...

  • @thegermanchannel212 I understand. But for Neil, there is NO specific drum company in the world that you can use to duplicate well the sound of his drums though his 37 years career with Rush. His sound changed A LOT over that period. A good example is how high he had to tune his small toms on the R30 kit to simulate his concert toms on the Tamas (to a point where it sounded rather badly in my opinion). The best we can do is to find equipment we like, tune them well, and play the best we can.

  • @thegermanchannel212 Oh, ok. Well. I am a bit different I guess. I play what *I* like first. I'm trying to duplicate Neil's playing, not him. I think the only think I have in common with him now is the way my kit is set (difficult to play Rush right without a similar drum setup) and the Paragons (which I acquired to duplicate his sound as much as possible). I'm not playing the Promark 747 or wearing the hat.... And, also, I don't have 30K bucks to put on a DW kit... ;)

  • @thegermanchannel212 I like DW, they make awesome drums. But I have been playing Tama for 20 years and I love the sound. I am totally happy with them so why would I go and switch ?

  • When are you going to get a DW kit?

  • @mapleorbirch Probably never.

  • regarding blisters..get down to the soft skin(remove any blister skin)..get some tea bags and put them in a dishpan..pour warm water in the dishpan..soak your blisters for 20mins+..pat dry..a couple days..your skin will toughen up

  • @Freeskies Thanks for the tip! In fact, I am lucky enough to very rarely suffer from blisters from drumming, but it happens sometime. Right now, I have more problems with tendinitis .... :(

  • @Astrotama : Im a drummer as well, I play with Nike Batting gloves...if you think the sticks are going to fly out of your hands, go for something better (expensive) with the Football ones..funny but true. Zildjian ones or other drummer gloves ALWAYS BREAK..this is just to share my experience...Carry On man!!

  • Awesome, we have the same shirt

  • how do u get in there?

  • A+

  • I have been a Rush fan for 30 years and I have heard alot try. As a drummer myself I know first hand this is no easy feat. All I can say is nice job bro. But as a drummer I would say YYZ is next baby.

  • @Bigmurfing8fan YYZ has been done here. Check it out... ;)

  • nice cover man really

  • Very nice dude. I am no drummer, but I have looked at a lot of your vids and am glad to see someone cares enough about perfection to do this. I have been playing stringed instruments for over 35 years, and the only criticism I have is that the bass drum sounds flabby or waffly on your recordings. It is perfectly in time, but something sounds amiss to me there; it seems to be reverberating too much or something. Of course, it is likely just my old ass ears...

  • great job! makes we wish I still had my set from back in the day, well done!

  • Btw - what is up with the "Comment pending approval" shit?! Can't take negativity on your comments page? Kinda squelching people's expression, arentcha? WHAT is THAT about, dude?! Come on now, don't be a pussy.

  • @porkythepig007 I can take criticisms related to drumming, the video, etc., no sweat. I am my worse critic (believe me). But I must control the comments to avoid flaming wars between people making completely irrelevant comments or sending spam.

  • Nice and powerful man. You punch it up well... I see too many people doing Neil/Rush and they are just weak all around. Its one thing to have the timing, notes, licks down... another thing completely to do it with proper GUSTO, you know what I mean!?!? (one thing: your Snare Arm must be dying though... I would recommend you explore ways to kick it out while using less energy. That song must be a killer on the left arm!)

BTW, have you seen Adventures In Power yet? If not, you HAVE TO, its LOLx10

  • @porkythepig007 My arms are just fine...

  • AWESOME DUDE!!! Im going to use this video as part of my presentation in my Music appreciation class! NICE JOB MAN!!!

  • ringgold ga if so thats cool im in cleveland tn if you would like hit me up on facebook at michael lombardi hope tom here something soon

  • dude you are awesome!! thanks for posting, looking forward to cleveland april15th!

  • My left hand is also full of blisters, but not from drumming...

  • magnificent !!!!! You the man....

  • RUSH RULES

  • you are the best drummer of rush besides neil

  • nice. applause to you

  • Mad Props Dude you really have that down to a science, it was cool watching you

play you can really turn it out, keep up the good work and love your kit.

  • your great man but nobody can replace neil...legends never die!!

  • @jzamora999 I have no intention of replacing Neil...

  • Man, you really nail peart's playing!

  • Maybe one day if Neil...

Just look what happened to Arnel Pineda (Journey), Benoit David (YES)....

I would like to see you play whit Alex and Geedy!

  • In the words of Darth Vader, "Impressive"

  • Hey Neil, if you're watching, please chime in...really. We all want you to acknowledge you've see Astrotama and his talent. Again, awesome work guy.

  • Tama <3

  • Very nice and a lot of fun to watch. Great job and thanks for the lesson. I think that the negative comments should only be seen if they can attach a video of themselves backing up their cyber mouth. Till then, shut up.

  • wow! thats so great to see, makes up for all those moments in the live videos when the camera pans away at the drum solo time :)

  • You're the man! I get screwed over as soon as the guitar solo starts. The snare pattern throws me off and the drum solo is just so fast I can't keep up! Really great job!

  • im soooo jealous!!!!

  • i watched you when i was first getting on to drumming, i think you may have inspired me some to keep playing

  • this is as close to peart as i've seen he workin hard for that thang too!!!! well well done

  • awesome man, i just watched "your" la villa strangiato... congrats man,, honestly, you should figure out the way to send those videos to neil.. i mean, arent you curious??

  • @marlowmoby Not really. I do that as a tribute to him, not to myself. He knows the songs well enough... ;)

  • @Astrotama

    :)))))

  • @astrotama well thats cool, im just sayin' ... i want to set up a drum kit more less like yours, how much did you invest?

  • hi-hats r 16ths

  • Spot on! Impressive as hell! Well done - and never, ever listen to the negative crap. You have TALENT.

  • " KICK ASS ! " YOU NAILED IT ! HOLY S**T !

    THE ENDING IS PHENOMENONAL !

  • " KICK ASS !!! " YOU NAILED IT !!!

  • AMAZING!!! how'd you get your kit set up just like neils?

  • i love this flow

  • I hope the Master gets to see you on these videos! I am sure he would be impressed!

  • Oh my god! Absolutely brilliant; I've seen many try to play it like Neil and never get close to catching all the small details. You nailed it!

    Just wow.

  • dude, that was BEAST you are king of that drum kit!

  • Damn, dude! Look at all that stuff! You a fan of Rush, much?

  • ASTROTAMA!!! I HAVE A NEW FAVORITE DRUMMER!!

  • Man I can see you suffering through this one, but for sure less than I suffered during my attempt!... A lot of people think they play like Neal but the guy has such precision and consistency it's almost depressing. But you're up there, much better than me that's for sure! Awesome job.

  • You have no idea how many times I've played this along with my iPod... but I've got e small drumset... a snare, 2 small toms, one floor tom, a bass drum, and a hi-hat... but i get by... for the crashes I just push the hi-hat down then let it up real fast...

  • What only two sets of chimes, how do you get by? Nice job.

  • Very good , great video . See my videos , (BANDA TRAMPO) , of boituva . Comment if you like !

  • What can you say when you see perfection?

You did it. Note for note.

    I had chills.

  • Awesome mashin dude!!!

  • No Doubt Dude.... You Killed it..

  • Niiiiiice Job!

  • I think you need more toms :D good job

  • After a heavy week at work I settled down this Friday evening with a bottle of red in front of the TV. Feeling a little sleepy I decided to call it a night but only after a Rush night cap via the gift of You Tube to send me off...and I happened across your stuff. That was two hours ago. Thanks for the entertainment, Astromama. I'll sleep well tonight.

  • This is awesome. You bring out the expertise in Neil Peart's work perfectly, wow!
