  • :| why he look like alien not a human

  • I love Quasimodo but I hate Esmeralda in this musical. shes just not suitable for this role

  • jprefere shirel pour la voix quand meme

  • Magnifique!!

  • This is the best song ever made.

  • I love this msical. It's perfect when I need to cry and I don't have any reason. Then I listen to these songs and experience a real katharsis. Beautiful!

  • Gorgeous song, so much passion to it. Precioso!

  • "Without prayer or a wreath!" - everytime I see how he cries out this passage-

I wanna cry instantly!! T________T It's so sad!! My favourite Quasi-Moment

  • glad I have DVD to watch all day:)

  • @celinemor tu me fait pleurer...

  • @celinemor tu me fais pleurer...

OUI

  • what a performance. respect <3

  • hmm...I'm trying to figure out who's creeping in the backround behind Esmeralda. He's up on the alcove. And it's driving me bonkers that I can't figure out who it is. Chorus member? Or Gringoire. I'd place money that it's Gringoire. (seems the sort of thing he'd randomly do, being narrator and all) That and he happened to be the only one who knew where she was back when even Clopin and Frollo were asking about her whereabouts.

  • @TrapilaGoldsap I think it's just some other prisoner...unless Frollo has teleportation powers.

  • @TrapilaGoldsap It's Frollo. His question, "Phoebus, where is your Esmeralda" was more or less rhetorical, he knows exactly where she is, he's the one that imprisoned her, and she mentions later that there is always a priest stalking her. His question was just to express how much he misses her dancing in the streets, and how Paris seems so empty w/o her. if you read the book, it'll reveal this too. remember, Frollo is a tormented if not demented Soul. at least that is my take on it,.

  • @Nejidabest Hmm. Now that you mention it, that does seem to make a little more sense. I haven't read the book in a long while, so details escape me, but it definitely seems within Frollo's character. I myself never hated Frollo. I pitied him for most of it, and was disappointed in him near the end I remember. He was ultimately a victim of his own undoing, simply by succumbing to his darker side. In it's own way, it makes him the protagonist.

  • @TrapilaGoldsap EXACTLY! I've been saying that Frollo should be pitiied, not hated. I Love his character and feels exactly the way you do about him. Poor Frollo, he didn't know what Love was, when Lust captured him, he mistook it for Love and he hated it, he didn't know what to do with it, and in the end he made the wrong deciision, and lead himself to his own demise. LOL I'm so in Love with Frollo, I'm ranting about his character on a video about Quaimodo and Esmeralda. Love Quasi 2!

  • @Nejidabest I agree completely. Not gonna lie though, ven before I stumbled upon the musical, Gringoire was my favorite character, followed by Clopin, then Frollo, then Frollo's idiot younger brother (can't remember his name though...=/ I just remember how amusing he was.) Then Quasi. His constant state of wallowing in self pity grew old for me because I never saw him change as a character. However, I admired how big his heart was. :)

  • @TrapilaGoldsap Really? Gringoire was your favorite? He was pathetic in the novel, IMO. And you're talking about Jehan, yeah he was fun, and wow the irony, the Big Bro is an Archdeacon, the lil bro a mongrel. My fave in order - Frollo, Quasi, Esmeralda's crazy mother, Jehan, Clopin and then Gringoire. Esmeralda annoyed me - ignorant and naive girl - and Phoebus is dirt! I wanna read the novel again. lol

  • @Nejidabest I guess I liked Gringoire because he was such a loser. But he was also the most stable character as well. he was *consistently* a loser, but he wasn't really malicious in any way, nor did he seem to mind his temperament. He was content with who he was. I like to see growth in a character, but I also like to see them adapt within their personality. Everyone else changed so drastically, Gringoire was the only sane character I could cling to. I guess I'm just weird that way. lol.

  • @TrapilaGoldsap I wouldn't say Gringoire is unchanging. if you recall from the novel he shifted a lot. First off, his play failed so he joined the gypsies. and then Esmeralda rejected him so he turned his love to HER GOAT! and then at the end of the novel, he was looking into architect and thinking about being a sculptor. I wouldn't say you're weird, but it is peculiar to fave the most pathetic male character. lol. does this count as spamming anyway? lol

  • @Nejidabest I adored Jehan! He's just the opposite of his boring elder brother. Paquette, Esmeralda's mother (I wrote it in French XD Luckilly I noticed it) is completely crazy.

But my fave charachter is Fleur-de-Lys, both in the musical and the novel. In the musical she's jealous, passionate, she's in love. In the novel she's a pretty girl a bit naive. :)

  • Out of curiosity, in the book, wasn't Esmeralda only thinking about Phoebus? I still love this song, though. : )

  • @VoiceOfAnAngel1

There are many differences between the musical and the book. In the book, Esmeralda never got over Quasimodo's ugliness. But I agree, this song is amazingly beautiful.

  • @Zigozozo Oh, I know. Haha. I just like observing differences for kicks. : P

It's sad that she doesn't get over it, doesn't want to be friends, really. : (

I think one of the saddest parts for me is when Quasi rescues her and feels handsome because of it - that and the symbolism of the vases - and the end, of course. lol.

  • Stunningly beautiful.....

  • Beautiful. That's the only adjective I can come up with. Just beautiful.

  • my absolute favourite song! ><

It's so heartbreaking when Quasi cried "without a prayer or a wreath"

everytime I see him like this I wanna cry Q.Q

Garou is such a genius *-*

  • -hmph- crying for Quasimodo? y y y? u'll just break his heart TT^TT

  • @MisakiMaidSama

    you're so right >///<

She's no right to yell for his help for the trouble she got because of some other guy D: can't she think of his feelings? TT^TT

  • Homestuck fans - they are SO moirails, am I right?

  • Amis a la vie a la mort! Such a touching phrase and beautiful harmony! Esmeralda was still stupid to not realize how pure and beautiful Quasi was before it was too late...

  • Garou's voice is beeeeeeeeeeast. And that harmony he hits with Esmeralda is balls to the wall.

  • They way she sings Quasiamodo <3... Something the way she does it is just magical.

  • I would have married him Esmeralda had he not gone to bed with her again and again now one knows. . .it is my wow to myself, because knowing about me from the ones who could find out about anyone, he still did it!!!

XD

  • Don-'t wanna be mean, but the translations don't perfectly reflect the emotions.

  • très jolie comédie musicale

  • Esmeralda annoys me...greatly. (the character, not the actress). She rejects Quasimodo, and then when she's in trouble she calls out to him, yet she STILL plans to reject him. She also loves the feeble doofus that's cheating on his fiance. What an idiot. I still LOOOOOOOOOVE this show though. It wouldn't be the same without her...no matter how much I hate her.

  • @vitaani well he did tell her that she could call on him anytime so i guess it's not much of her "wanting" him as "needing" him when she is in trouble.

  • Oh, now you want Quasi when none of your other guys can save you >.>

  • @SCIAMPOLINA

"the birds they put in cages" se nn m sbaglio!

  • wow, w musicalu więź Esmeraldy i Quasimodo jest obustronną przyjaźnią i bliższą więzią niż w książce !

  • Almost every song in the 2nd act makes me to tear up...this one being ne of those songs...It's amazing...Love the emotion of the performers!

  • One of the best songs!!!

  • This is the only song where I loved the english version as much as the french :O

  • Now, this is what I like about this opera. In the book, Esmeralda keeps on asking for Pheobus to save her after he didn't bother defending her, but here she's asking for Quasimodo.

  • Best Opera whatever i have seen :D

  • Hem...

  • Amazing song, brilliant performance!!!

  • Gosh, Garou has such a strong voice!

  • Well, obviously the bars are symbolic. They're not meant to be realistic, so it's not really a problem to me if she could easily break away. It's evident that if you look at the scene like she's Helene Segara and she's on a stage, it looks fake. But if you think that she's Esmeralda, and she's about to die in a prison, well, there's the real charm of a musical. Pretend. Just pretend.

  • They should so be together

  • Putain ils sont trop forts... speciallement Garou

  • ahh...i love this song it is so beautiful they sing wonderful together

  • that song is beautiful, i don't know why but i teared up a bit...why? Moving voices!

  • e papame fare kjo kong lale sidomos interpretimi

  • Brilliant!!!

  • Splendid.. Magnificent.. Bravo.

  • Even if the song is great, and even if the singers are perfect. Esmeralda pourrait très bien passer largement entre ses barreaux, et la phrase " Viens écarter mes barreaux " doesn't make any sense. Anyway, beautiful lyrics .

  • awesome - I'm not really into musicals but this evokes so much emotion . hope to see this live

  • My favorite song from this musical...*sigh* I wish Esme and Quasi got to have more duets

  • @darlingzooloo this and belle.

  • @darlingzooloo I agree! They sound so great together.

  • @darlingzooloo Agreed!

  • @darlingzooloo u can go and search "colpo di fulmine"... it was also presented to italian Festival di Sanremo! :)

ARF! J'aime, j'adore le Quasimodo français

  • 'Ou est tu mon Quasimooooodooooo...'

    Omd, j'adore cette phrase!

    (Omg! I love that line!)

  • BRAVO!!!!

  • merveilleux duo chanson sublime

  • This song always makes me cry. All the play is the best out there. I will love it until the day I die!

  • Beautiful song.

    Mary

  • C'EST trop joli =( snif... c chou!!

  • insuperabile Garou!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Did you notice how the colour of his hair has turned the gargoyl red?

  • i just did!

  • I Know! xD

  • i just noticed it and i"ve seen this video and the english "dub" lie a thousand times

  • Trés belle chanson

  • superbe... "les enfants qu'on outrages peuvent ils encore aimer?" =/ très belles paroles, très émouvante chanson... =) BRAVO!!

    Garou a une voix exceptionnelle

  • magnifique...

    débordant de sentiments...

    émouvant...

    j'adore !

bravo aux chanteurs, ils sont excellents !

  • Que Espectacular..

  • Helene's singing, though her voice is a bit small, is never what bothered me about her. Her acting in a lot of scenes is just stilted; she isn't nearly as passionate as the other actors. In this song in particular I believe she performs well, but in a lot of others she just seems bland. Furthermore, she looks a lot older than Esmeralda should; in the book, she was sixteen! I won't lie, I'm a huge fan of Lola; she bows Helene out of the water in high-passion scenes such as La Torture.

  • well its not like they will look only for sixteen year olds to perfomr esmeralda.

also i think their main focus is handling their voice. the passion they sing with is their acting, and she handelsthat very well

  • of courses! if italians singers sing like that, it's because italians like that. it's the same for every nationalities. In my opinion, th french version is the best, but maybe it's because I'm french.

  • this song is absolutely wonderful. it's the best of all this musical in my opinion although all the musical is splendid. I'm french and your translations are perfect :).

  • puhlease! ppl! she's destined to be executed and ur expecting her to be smiling!? of course she's gotta be sad and wut better way than showing no emotions with some sad eyes! THINK!

  • I don't know why people say Helene isn't showing her emotions. Yeah, she's not pouring it out like Lola Ponce, because Lola is depicting more of an angry mood. Whereas, Helene is desperate, reaching out for help. Around 1:00, it looks like she's praying.

  • Well maybe its because SOME PEOPLE, dont remember that the French version was the very first there was. After that, all the other versions said "Hey, we can do better then that!" And improved it.

  • I don't think that they improved it and the proof is the fact that still, after all the changes and attemps the original version is still the best one.

I don't like the hysterical Italian version, I like the Russian Phoebus but that's about it, the Spanish Esmeralda is amazing (Tahis) but the rest are not so great and as for the English versions that I've heard... the are not even worth mentioning. I think that Helene is subtle in her acting and very convincing in her sadness and despair.

  • I agree, I just cant belive some people do not understand that.

  • Maybe some people like different way of singing..?:)

  • Could be.

  • Tahis is horrible but the worst Esmeralda I've ever seen is Lola Ponce. Helene and Russian Esmeralda are the best.

  • Tahis has a great voice, I didn't see her perform but what's for sure is that she is a great singer especially for someone so young.

    I love Helene.

Dolnikova is great and Svetikova is not worth the time that it takes to type her name.

  • actually she's asking help form Quasimodo because he's already save her once.

Sorry if i am a poor english, i'm french! :D

  • I like your interpretation too. :]

  • Thanks! :D

  • esmeraldaaaaaaaaaaa

  • buen punto ._.

  • I love this song! Has to be one of my favorites:)

  • Garou's voice is nice but i like Brunos.... Love both anyways! <3

  • garou is so cooooooooooooooooooooool

  • Garou is soooooooo amazing!!!! love that guy!!!

  • @bluejuiseritsma 100% agree!!!!!

  • But Helene should look and sound sad!!! I mean, her character is supposed to be desperate for being accused of a murder she didn't commit, and she knows soon she's gonna die... Instead Helene seems nothing of all that. Such a pity, with those beautiful lyrics.

  • i wouldn't say that...she is sad...her emotions are not so loud or i don't how to say they are restrained...but i wouldn't say that she looked happy or she doesn't feel what could happen to her

  • She is not tearing her hair out and screaming if that's what you mean, this is not a cheap soap opera that you are watching here. Helene is subtle but you can hear the sadness in her voice and she certainly doesn't look happy. Perhaps the hysterical Italian version will suit your needs better than this one.

  • Great voice and performance, Garou

  • Ali In Gabbia, Occhi selvaggi

    Non potranno più volare

    e l'infanzia dagli oltraggi

    tonerà mai ad amare?

    W Notre Dame Italianooo

  • magnifique !

    wow

  • i see real love!

    wish everybody the same!

  • Thx ;)

Don't you think it's just strong friendship from Esmeralda's part? she chose Phoebus for her lover anyway... :p

  • qui...something modo is really good.

ive never heard anyone sing like that.

  • Who is the person standing in the "window" thing behind Esmeralda? It's creepy.

  • it's a dancer

  • who knows the version of argentina? :)

"El Jorobado De París" by Pepe Cibrian

Watch a video please and write coments!

(I don't know write in english, I'm argentina...) xD

    Sorry!

    Kisses!

  • Did you sometimes wached to the eyes of Quasimodo? He is so sad and so beautiul when he is singing... Sorry, i can't write in English very good, and i can't tell, who i feel, when i listen this musical. It is so so so beautiful... I love you my swetties... You don't know, how i love Quasimodo... When i read a book, saw a film (Hunchback of Notre-dAME, 1982) and saw this musical, i inlove that hero... He is so cute and lovely... I don't care, that he is ugly, but he is beautiful in his heart...

  • I feel the same about Qusimodo, one of my all time favourite characters from all the books I read and he's played by Garou in this musical...my love :-)

  • I have a pleasent to associate witht humman, who have the same thoughts... Garou, we loves you...

  • perhaps it's because in that version it's Garou, à fantastic Canadian and his voice OMG, in a concert he's very awesome, he can give us à SHOW MAGICAL!!! but i agree with you Quasimodo is great and more than that XD

  • love the song but i could squeeze myself through those bar easily so could she, girl run.
