Another question regards intention. Is it bad karma if I acted in a way that I knew would hurt my friend, yet it still was not my intention (such as sleeping with a girl that he likes?). I did it for a selfish reason, but is selfish always bad?

How would you define stealing not with the intention of hurting someone but rather with the intention of using it as personal resources or for giving? (for example: textbooks or groceries)
