oh ....my....god... this one is the best post jim morrison, very rare, love love the end. searched for it for years. viva the computer!! and you tube!
I think the fatal flaw with post-Morrison Doors is that they went down a Jazz route, they should have carried on making Blues! Manzarek's voice was perfect for Blues and I think they would had a good run after Morrison if they didn't go with Jazz. I do love this song though, IMO Ships With Sails, Tightrope Ride and The Mosquito were the only good songs from the last two albums.
I would love to hear Morrison sing this - it's got the wistful quality that so many Doors songs have with just a bit of pain thrown in too. It might be my imagination but I think I can hear Manzarek crying out to him in this song.

@Mae77 I have got this dvd. I don't remember seeing much more than ten seconds of hello i love you. What i would like to know is : is there any video of the amsterdam concert without jim?
A very nice and unique song, but the vid doesn't fit. It shows takes from the 1968 Concert at Frankfurt / Germany 1. Show. And some takes from The Doors Live at Europe. But it doesn't matter!
As a very long time Doors fan, they should have insisted on going forward with the band and getting a new lead vocalist. Jim was great and a legend, but they could have found someone else.
that is one cool song, is it in the documentary 'When Your Strange" because there is a sailing ship version in the doc. film and that was a classic scene for the film.
The reason for the instrumental break in Light My Fire was to show the world these guys weren't just another pop band cranking out 2 min tunes but 3 incredible musicians. Think about it. There is very little vocals in that song. Actually, the song needs no vocals. That was the beginning. Now move forward to this song. IGNORE THE VOCALS, will ya? Just like LMF, the vocals are few. For 35 years, since I first heard this song, I believe this one closed their career.
@LashBridges You said it perfectly. When the long version of Light My Fire played on AM radio in spring 1967--it blew everyone's mind, with it's long, hypnotic instrumental interlude.
AWSOME JUST AWSOME. if Mr. Mojo didnt die this wouldve sounded way better w his voice but i really like this. i didnt know they put out 2 albums after Jim died but i like what i hear
I like to think, that all those 4 guys in Doors were individuals. And this this song, sang by Ray, is just one classic songs made by them. Existential song made by own experiments. Not by other, in that time passed, Door's member's experiments. And I'm not saying this by trying to underrate J. Morrisison's acts and influence. They were all good musicians.
to me this should have been the last song on full circle, it has that haunting endless type of feel , just as riders on the storm did on L.A. WOMAN. i still think these 3 talented men could have been more involved in the 70's music, not as the doors, but they could have easily worked with singers and song writers, just listen to this song's riffs..... incredible and tight...jim would have been very proud of them.
Beautiful soulful playing by Robbie as always. I kind of like the "jam band" feel of the post Morrison Doors. It sucks everyone says "Oh they are not as good without Jim" before listening. Its not fair to compare. Of course they are going to sound different, but they are still The Doors!
There's always a few copies floating around on eBay. I just checked, and yep there are some copies on there. I would haveliked to have heard Jim sing Ships With Sails and maybe add a dark twist to it.
Put a little menace in it, with Jim singing and a few lyric changes (too sacharrine as it stands) and, I agree - it could have been a quintessential Doors track.
Wow, I havent heard this in years. I've always thought this would have been the Doors next top 10 hit. Can you imagine how this would have sounded with Morrison!
true.but if someone normally "leaves" a band (if he`s part of the creative process) it affects the sound or at least the chemistry in the band, so I was suprised.cool tune anyway.like the jazzy feelin.
I agree nassreiskulturen. I guess it is cool how they kept the "vibe" without their centerpiece. You could have substituted Jim's voice over Ray's and it would have been a familiar Door song.
You`re right. This song also proofs that the four of them worked together (most of the time),that anyone had his own occupation: the three made the music, the instrumental music, and Morrisson sang and the wrote the lyrics.
Time. Dimensions. Light. Knowledge. I am myself, but awoke to a different world. Thanks for the tunes man! Id like to invite you to come check out "Nightmare on Blog Street" a poem I wrote to infect the sane.
I love that this song has presence on YouTube, and the dedication you put into giving this some moving images. Ray was the first and last singer of the Doors, until those collaborations after Doors 21C touring, without JohnD.
Was ANY of the live/rehearsal footage of them doing THIS song?
My download usually shifts the sync so much it is hard to tell even when the edit is tightly synched.
What a great song, and do they really miss Jim so badly, on this tune at least?
My english really sux, I couldn't understand very well your questions. Let me try:
1.- There's one known filmed live perfomance of this song. It was in youtube but was deleted by copyright fuckers. I used a perfomance from the documentary made in England where the 3 Doors are in a moment without JIm and play Hello, I Love You with Ray singin'.
2.- It's said Ray wrote this song thinking in the relationship of Pam and Jim , even she was still alive when this song was recorded.
Nope. It's Robbie. John never sung any chorus even. If you read the LP, it says : JOhn Densmore - Drums ; Ray Manzarek - Keyboards, vocals ; Robbie Krieger - Guitar, Vocals.
The only time John recorded a word was in the final chorus of Roadhouse Blues in the mix with John Lee Hooker.
Seriously?! I can't imagine Robbie sounding like that, man. I mean, Runnin' Blue, he has this very odd Bob Dylan-type thing going. It sounds like Ray... but Robbie is singing that alone? Wow, I never would have guessed.
Yeah dude its Ray. Robbie didn't sing this one. He could never sound like this. Listen to "Close to you" and compare. Ray sang most of the songs for Doors after Jim passed away

Hmmm, you know that intro of Robbies kinda sounded like In Memory of Elizabeth Reed (Allman Brothers) You know the guys were just heartbroken - you can see it on their faces. This is good stuff though cuz they are all talented and great musicians and I applaud them for trying to carry on. Jim's absence just left too big a hole. You are all music gods in my book :) Thanks for posting this!
I really like how this song shows that The Doors were a whole lot more than just Jim Morrison. Something a lot of people dont seem to understand.
