Kenne Bell works well on GT's. I have a 2003 GT with a 1.7 Kenne bell kit that has been on the car since 57,000 miles. This morning the car turned 144,444 miles the runs on 89 and with the tune varies from 432whp to 458whp give ambient temperature, Dyno and other varables. I would bet money he had timing and fuel issues.
@guitargod66 If that was the logic, the Kennebell 2.1/2.6 wouldn't exist. They belong on motors who have a forged rotating assembly IF the PSI is turned up.

the weakness in the "GM motors" is not in the weakness of the rods, crank or block as in the non forged ford motors, but lies in the thinness of the top ring land of the pistons, it is very thin. With a good tune an LS1 can live into the 600+ hp range.. will it be there for long? probably not. But it can. A 2v as in this instance simply fails at around 400 hp (this one let go at around 370) But, as you so eloquently stated, a Cobra is different.... Umad?
A terminator block is Iron, same as this block.... you must be referring to the rods? Cobra rods are forged therefore yes they are less likely to snap like the toothpicks in this 2v. And when you say GM you are probably referring to the LS1? I have run about 500hp out of my stock LS1 for 3+ years now and my block is still intact and soldiering on in another car. You should do some more homework on GM and Ford engines!
I've got an 04 gt with a kenne bell and its been ok since 2005. I'm only at 9# of boost which is ok for me. Stock engines can support 460+ just depends how you drive em.
@NightGod07 03-04 Cobra motors are quality beasts for 14k... You can not top them for price to quality. I am a Camaro guy and even I know that much, they will support lots of HP, I have seen them running around at 20PSI with other mods handling it like nothing else.
However these 4.6's in the GT are junk... I bought 2 mustang GT's and they were both slow with poor quality running parts, I will never EVER buy another GT again, they are worthless compared to Trans Am, GTO and Camaro.

@afgandominator Sure, the 4.6 will make decent power when blown. ANY engine will! The 4.6 is crap when its not blown, and lags behind any LS engine when they are blown to. Theres a very good reason Hennessey uses an LS engine for the Venom, and almost all start-up super car manufacturers go straight to the LS3/LS7. Heck, even just normal people doing engines swaps. I've never heard about an RX-7 getting a 4.6 thrown into it, have you?

The only good thing about the '05-'10 Mustang is that it has finally been replaced by something not fugly.

@AdrenalineJunky17 i have been to the track many times with my kenne bell gt with no trouble. it should be on a stock engin, no cams, long tubes,cai,none of that stuff. if you do it that way you have a better chance of gettting some time out of it.117,000 miles and still ripps. i use the kenne bell tune with no problems, you always here people say you need to get it tuned, blah blah blah. 100% stock , kenne bell chip and no problems. i have some vids on here if you want to see it.
You know why this blew up? It's because it's a Ford! My Dad just put his 1972 CHEVY Nova on the dyno today and guess what? It didn't blow up! The driveshaft did shear in the spots though. I guess that's what happens when you put 600 hp against a stock driveshaft.

@TheMrhoneycutt Not the tuners fault. Owner did not have the motor built to handle that amount of HP. And the reason being is that this is a GT and not aCobra. People think GTs and Cobras have the same internals. THEY DON"T! GTs have just plane everyday daily driver internals, 03-04 Cobras(Which have S/C) have Forged internals from the Factory so that they can handle the extra power from the Super Charger. If you S/C a GT build it first so that it can handle the HP!

Its a real gamble with stock ford bottom end on these cars. some can take lots and others give up easily. Its unfortunate when it does. Hope you rebuild and try it again
how many lbs were you trying to push? how many miles on the motor? if you threw a rod (or a few) its most likely cause you were pushing too much boost.

i have seen a $3,000 98 Ls1 camaro with 120k miles with some rusty headers and a lid take down a new 5.0.... my point? There are many factors that go into who wins/lose a race. A lot has to do with the weight. The new camaro is a fat pig. I wouldnt own one and i personally think they look like shit. You guys read too much into forum and magazine numbers. I have seen many new 5.0's and Camaros running bottom 13's at the track. Go out and race and get off youtube + net forums!

@afgandominator Sure, the 4.6 will make decent power when blown. ANY engine will! The 4.6 is crap when its not blown, and lags behind any LS engine when they are blown to. Theres a very good reason Hennessey uses an LS engine for the Venom, and almost all start-up super car manufacturers go straight to the LS3/LS7. Heck, even just normal people doing engines swaps. I've never heard about an RX-7 getting a 4.6 thrown into it, have you?

Yes I agree fords 4.6 is trash, but not the 4.6 that went into the 03-04 cobra with forged internals straight from factory, u don't see people using these motors because theres not as many of them u can pick up as cheap as a ls motor, I'd take the cobra motor in a second, can easily push 1000hp before u have to break the motor down, do u cry about the new 5.0 when it beats your 6.0 liter pos 2?

@afgandominator 1st, a your lucky to get an cobra motor for less then $7K. I can get an LS7 for $6K, with 550 HP. 2nd, Any one of the LS motors can push 1K HP. I don't know who your talking to, but 1K HP can't be done "easily", short of throwing cash at the problem. The solution to which, as far as most of the automotive world goes, is get an LS engine. Last, I don't cry about the new 5.0, its a great engine. All the same, its a brand new high tech motor, beating a 7 year old motor. Grats?

Odd how the UAW was demanding full salary for 6 years when laid off from a GM plant, and held it until GM went under, but then dropped that little nugget when it came time to renew Fords contract.
Regardless, there is a reason GM went under and Ford didn't. Better management. Not better cars. Do you really think the GT or SHO is a better car then a Corvette or the CTS-V? Honestly?

@Tribesman2004 Keep in mind, at the time, they didn't have the 5.0 GT, or even have it announced, and the SHO wasn't on sale yet. Would you really argue that the old, ugly as hell '05-'10 4.6l piece of boring they passed off as a Pony car was great? The only reason it lead the market (Which is debatable if you include Imports as well) was because GM didn't make the F-Body after '02! The only good thing about the '05-'10 Mustang is that it has finally been replaced by something not fugly.

My buddy has a 02 GT and all he did was a small cam and heads and he spun a rod bearing the first time he took it to the track, after he tuned it.

@AdrenalineJunky17 i have been to the track many times with my kenne bell gt with no trouble. it should be on a stock engin, no cams, long tubes,cai,none of that stuff. if you do it that way you have a better chance of gettting some time out of it.117,000 miles and still ripps. i use the kenne bell tune with no problems, you always here people say you need to get it tuned, blah blah blah. 100% stock , kenne bell chip and no problems. i have some vids on here if you want to see it.

You know why this blew up? It's because it's a Ford! My Dad just put his 1972 CHEVY Nova on the dyno today and guess what? It didn't blow up! The driveshaft did shear in the spots though. I guess that's what happens when you put 600 hp against a stock driveshaft.

@TheMrhoneycutt Not the tuners fault. Owner did not have the motor built to handle that amount of HP. And the reason being is that this is a GT and not aCobra. People think GTs and Cobras have the same internals. THEY DON"T! GTs have just plane everyday daily driver internals, 03-04 Cobras(Which have S/C) have Forged internals from the Factory so that they can handle the extra power from the Super Charger. If you S/C a GT build it first so that it can handle the HP!

They were talking about this on the forums, He was only at 9psi and bought 50K on the motor and a box tune from KB from what I was told by someone there. Its a real gamble with stock ford bottom end on these cars. some can take lots and others give up easily. Its unfortunate when it does. Hope you rebuild and try it again
