I had the same impaction when I was 20. The lower molars were squarely horizontal with the crowns pressed against the 2nd molars, and the upper molars were partially erupted. Some post-op pain, but nothing to compare with the dry socket which came a few days later on one of the lower sockets. Yep, the impacted teeth have to be chiseled into pieces... it's the only way to get them out.
for my impacted wisdom tooth I was awake the whole time , all I had was a local anesthetic, I dont think they did any of this to me, all I heard was really loud drills and a bunch of tugging, but I did have to get stitches
@bambis46 As far as I've seen and understood from the manual - extraction in all types of impaction requires separating the crown in pieces with a bur (here the doctor used a chisel too). That gives easier extraction of the crown and roots. Note that the roots were not that regular. Trying to grab it and tug would not have worked as it is close to the 2nd moral and the roots are in the bone. As opposed to the second extracted molar-which was easily accessed. [researching for my own tooth :P ]
good one! this is done simple and fast too. i've done my surgical removal of impacted mandi third molar in 45 minutes and i suffer pain during the surgical too... depends on the doctor. i think i'm unlucky that day that i got a not so experienced doctor...
this impacted 3rd molar id much easier to remove if some parts of this tooth are already eaten away by bacteria,if this is the case this is easily remove by elevation method(using a dental elevator).

How come the tooth is in pieces? Also would it have had a root imbedded in the jaw bone as well?

This video may be quite old but the bulk of it is still the method of choice being used today. Great video!

i love this stuff. I plan on removing my own molar sometime this week. It's half gone anyway and has a good wiggle going on.

@codie2nd Are you by any chance suggesting it'd be better to let them suffer decay so as to facilitate aexodontia?, if so, I strongly disagree¡¡¡.
