"too much like religion" What religion? The worst scum of the 20th century were communist-atheist dictators; a combination which would make any sane individual vomit.
@AtheistTower Hate to repeat myself, but what makes Nazi germany an ATHEIST movement and not a religious movement? Or North Korea with the eternal leader who they call "god"? The worst atrocities committed by man has been in the name of craziness, and that includes all religions and Christianity.
What people overlook is that even IF Hitler was an Atheist (which he clearly wasnt) the fact that he was so easily able to take Christian Doctrines and make an entire nation, an advanced nation, go for an industrialized murder campaign demonstrates how easily led and how amoral the Christian churches are.
@ThieleM Exactly my point starting at 3:05 when I have him say "Most Christians don't want to look in the mirror. I used religion to cause millions of Christians to wage the largest crusade in history. They're in denial. They want to hide their dirty laundry."
@grahamers Firstly, Hitler relied primarily on Germanic romanticism and the idea that Jewish Marxists and capitalists were behind many of Germany's woes at the time. Hitler also had less than savory comments about Christianity so I personally think he was areligious at best.
Which brings me to my second point: Atheists and Christians debating this issue are morons. It is irrelevant and a rather pathetic tactic to connect Nazism to your opponent. Godwin's Law, anyone?
You are delusional; he took things for all sorts of things including pagan concepts, catholic concepts and yes - shock horror - atheist ideals too. Christians were the biggest opponents of the nazi regime, but of course you obviously took history didn't you.
Christians being the largest opponent of the Nazis is a nothing claim. Christianity is the largest religion in the world, it stands to reason that christians would be the largest opponent....not just on Nazis but anything you can mention period.
In Germany during WWII Hitler's horrible actions were the direct result of a perverted Christian fundamentalism.
You didnt take History OR any logic courses did you?
@ThieleM How much research did you do on this idea of yours? The Nazi Party and the SS in particular were very anti christian and very anti Catholic church. The clear and stated goals of Hitler and the leaders of the SS were to replaced Christianity with a carefully crafted Teutonic paganism. Saying that your average german soldier or citizen was aware of the holocaust of working to implement it is absurd. Poor scholarship on your part I must say.
@ThieleM Err no, sorry but the actions of the Nazi party and the SS were very anti Christian in their actions. You see when people write (especially political books) they are writing for a particular audience. Hitler said himself in 1938 that he was thankful for his catholic upbringing that allowed him to understand how to politically manipulate German Christians away from the church and towards a pagan teutonic faith. The historical record is very clear about Hitler and the SS.
You are right, it IS clearly Christian. People like you pull out the old 'No True Scotsman' fallacy and (like you just did) give it a little tweak at times.
The fact that the Vatican is concluding a treaty with the new Germany means the acknowledgement of the National Socialist state by the Catholic Church. This treaty shows the whole world clearly and unequivocally that the assertion that National Socialism [Nazism] is hostile to religion is a lie.
@ThieleM I suppose you could tell me what Hitler meant when he uttered these words "The old beliefs will be brought back to honor again. The whole secret knowledge of nature, of the divine, the demonic. We will wash off the Christian veneer and bring out a religion peculiar to our race.”
This idea that you can simply ignore what was said and did after the Nazis solidified power and stopped pandering to German Christians shows you are not serious at all about this.
You are joking right? That quote is a well known fake, it is ACTUALLY from a book by a lunatic called Roy Schoeman, his sources are comedic, "Nazis: The Occult Conspiracy, Discovery Channel; also Joseph Carr The Twisted Cross, p. 203." I find it quite shoddy when an author making a controversial point relies on secondary sources, let alone sensationalist trash like The Twisted Cross, and a TV show.
Hitler constantly preached, his first legal action was outlawing Atheist centres and then turning them into Christian outreach centres. His men ran around with 'Gott Mit Uns" on their belts (at his order) in Mein Kampf and his speeches he had more lines than I can fit here but here is one:Hitler wrote: "I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.
My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded only by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter.
We are a people of different faiths, but we are one. Which faith conquers the other is not the question; rather, the question is whether Christianity stands or falls.... We tolerate no one in our ranks who attacks the ideas of Christianity... in fact our movement is Christian. We are filled with a desire for Catholics and Protestants to discover one another in the deep distress of our own people.
-Adolf Hitler, in a speech in Passau, 27 October 1928
@ThieleM Yet another example of how people like you have to reach back to the early pandering of Hitler to the Germans. Never mind the 180 he took once in power. With Gems like this Cont...
@ThieleM Cont The best thing is to let Christianity die a natural death.... When understanding of the universe has become widespread... Christian doctrine will be convicted of absurdity.Christianity has reached the peak of absurdity.... And that's why someday its structure will collapse..the only way to get rid of Christianity is to allow it to die little by little Christianity the liar. We'll see to it that the Churches cannot spread abroad teachings in conflict with the interests of the State.
@ThieleM You Start with a flawed idea out of the gate here. The entire intellectual movement at the time was to avoid war. Everyone was making treaties with the Nazi led Germans in a blind hope to avoid war or have pull during war. The fact that you think this is evidence to support your idea is laughable. Would you like me to run down a long list of treaties and supportive actions between Nazi Germany and just about every nation during WW2.
Actually I'm not flawed, the treaty was for safe passage and non extradition. I know these treaties better than you do...I have even seen copies in archives while doing my University studies.
@ThieleM Yes it is. You need to create a legal foundation with any political power you are dealing with and clearly you are looking at treaties an organization made with a rising political force. The fact that the church felt the need to do this should tell you a great deal. Using the concordant to conclude the personal feelings and faith of Hitler is grasping at straws and only makes a small amount of sense ignoring everything else, such the Nazi party repeatedly breaking terms and conditions
@ThieleM I am not sure what is the point of going on about this. The Reichskonkordat covered all kinds of matters concerning the church and Catholics in Germany. Hitler was adamant that the church stay out of political and social causes, and offered in exchange autonomy for German Catholic institutions like education. The Nazi party and Hitler wasted no time breaking tenants of the agreement. It takes a special kind of lazy and smug attitude to be proud of the ignorance on display here.
Hitler rallied on the church and his allegiance every chance he got. Meetings contained prayers, uniforms paid tribute to god. That he offered exchange for institutions like education (and you are only half right here) doesn't change the fact that Hitler was a catholic, basked in his devotion to Jesus and the lord and used biblical sources to justify his actions.
@ThieleM These points don't support that Hitler was a Catholic. It supports political pandering. Which is what Hitler said it was in private, backed up by his change in public statements and actions once he seized power. The truth is very simple that Hitler admired some aspects of Christianity, loathed most of it, but found it useful in his political ascent and intended to discard it once the German people were committed to a new Nazi reality. He said so explicitly. How do you discount that?
Before he had any real power he was preaching. You are making a modified 'no true scotsman fallacy. He didn't loathe his faith, yes he wanted the church out of the political arena but he did it in a way that is a lot like modern republicans in the US. His statements didn't change when he got in power.
Hitler was Christian, and yes catholics are christians. Sorry that it doesn't make you feel good about yourself.
WHy do you people have to lie about this? Faith that weak?
@ThieleM It isn't the scotsman fallacy, Hittler said in private that Christianity and Christ were too weak for the New German People. He said "Christianity is an invention of sick brains: one could imagine nothing more senseless, nor any more indecent way of turning the idea of the Godhead into a mockery When all is said, we have no reason to wish that the Italians and Spaniards should free themselves from the drug of Christianity. Let's be the only people who are immunised against the disease"
@ThieleM The best thing is to let Christianity die a natural death.... When understanding of the universe has become widespread... Christian doctrine will be convicted of absurdity.... Christianity has reached the peak of absurdity.... And that's why someday its structure will collapse.... ...the only way to get rid of Christianity is to allow it to die little by little- Hitler in 1941. What is confusing here?
He sought to replace one form of spirituality with another. He was convinced that they would inevitably adopt the new spirituality and in letting Christianity "die a natural death" Hitler was allowing white Christians at least a sliver of individual choice.
@leeharveyosmosis Oh very clearly. I never made the point that hittler was an atheist. He probably didn't believe in god but saw use in spirituality. Hittler was a mix of all kinds of things, it was discussed extensivly by historians looking at this. One major issue was keeping up the moral of your average troop in the field by allowing him to practice his faith to some degree. It is important to note that how the top Nazis saw the war was very differnt from your average soldier.
Unfortunately, the comic effect doesn't work when you understand German. Maybe you should have had a German friend redub the scene (translating your "English translation" into German), which would have doubled the comic effect. :)
@Hutchartwork For real. I don't speak german, but this meme has certainly lost its effect on me since having seen Der Untergang. Especially the bits of the subtitles that overlap the proper names in Hitler's dialogue.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Hitler was not a christian, as in believer that "Jesus is the way, the truth and the life". He did sit at the church i guess, but politicians go where the public wants to see them go, to get the popularity they need.
Christians who say Hitler was an atheist - even if you are right (you aren't) it doesn't matter. The evils he did were not motivated by non belief just like you don't go out raping people because you don't believe in Thor!
hitler was NEVER christian, BTW if he was who cares , stalin, lenin, mao , kim, pol pot, castro etc ect are militant atheist , stalin alone has killed 40 million more than all fascist put together
@albokk hitler is christian..the people that all the people you named have killed are all killed because of politics, less than 2 million people die under "the name of atheism" by these men. lols..talk about ignorance.
Roflmao! You realize that the only thing that even suggests that he was not are the unsourced quotes in the Christian apologetic work "Hitler's Table talks" right? Nazi Germany was Christian, Nazi propaganda was directed at Christians, Jew hatred is in fact also a Christian invention as you'll quickly find out if you start reading up on the history of antisemitism.
@albokk In this environment Hitler claims publicly to be a Christian and receives mass support from Christians while demonizing the Jews. And you're telling me we should somehow not accept this? No sir, what is the case here is that Christianity has changed so much just in the last century that you refuse to identify with it. Try picking up the antisemitic works of the founder of Protestantism, Martin Luther btw. I think one is called "On the Jews and their Lies".
@albokk I'm sure you can name a bunch of atheists who have killed people, but this is completely uninteresting in itself. Bearded people have killed millions of people as well. What you're looking for is a causal connection between ideology and murder. Let me summarize 'atheism' for you: "I lack belief in gods". Please show me a deductive argument that leads from this premise to any action what so ever. Don't feel like you have to restrict yourself to killing people.
@albokk When you find that you can't, you'll realize what a retarded argument "Atheism leads to mass murder" is. You need positive beliefs to produce actions and atheism does not provide this so it can not be a cause of any of the murders you mention, just as it can't be the cause of anything good those people may have done.
Christianity on the other hand - is an ideology. As is Communism. And we know perfectly well that people have killed in the name of(=*because of*) both throughout history.
@albokk At best you could take the "no true Christian" route. However, this doesn't change the fact that Christian ideology has caused, and causes, all kinds of disasters for humanity. Who are opposing condom distribution in AIDS ridden regions of Africa because "God doesn't like it"? Christians. That's Christians murdering people because of their superstition. So get the fuck off your high horse and start shoveling away its shit.
@blastemy It was a satirical video. Humurous purposes. Considering Neither Mel Gibson, Ray Comfort, Sarah Palin, nor Darwin fish existed in the 1940's, anyone with half a brain can figure out this is Satirre.
There's no doubt the rants you quote from MEIN KAMPF are unmistakably those of a "believer". However, this passage shouldn't be glossed over either: “A stronger race will supplant the weaker, since the drive for life in its final form will decimate every ridiculous fetter of the so-called humaneness of individuals, in order to make place for the humaneness of nature, which destroys the weak to make place for the strong.”
Sounds like a perverted form of Charles Darwin's principles to me.
@TheBermudaMan If he loved Darwins theory so much.... why was "On the origin of the species" banned by the Nazis? The stronger race supplanting the weaker is from Friedrich Nieztche
@TheBermudaMan The problem is that Darwin's theory of evolution and natural selection only tries to explain what happens in nature. It doesnt say anything about what we should do and how we should act.
Saying that someone who accepts evolution must support the killing of "weaker individuals" is like saying that someone who accepts gravity should be throwing things into the air.
This is so well done -- absolutely hysterical. I've seen many of these, but this clip has never been used so well. This is brilliant stuff! "Don't worry, Sarah Palin will never be president." Freaking hysterical!!!!
This particular clip has been used for a variety of different parodies. Christians claim a lot of things, least of all that a god exists. One only needs to dialogue with Youtube christians to realise how brainwashed with propaganda they are. The evolution critiques are the most common ones, and most notably from American bible-belt christians.
@grenangle--- Not particularly. I just don't like this stupid clip used for everything from making fun of a rival's football team to pushing against some political idea. It is way too 2008 for my tastes.
@grahamers Well I wasn't calling you a moron. It is a nice little manipulation technique for you to use. I just meant that it only worked on morons who can't recognize actors and discrepancies with historical realities. That's all.

@AtheistTower Hate to repeat myself, but what makes Nazi germany an ATHEIST movement and not a religious movement? Or North Korea with the eternal leader who they call "god"? The worst atrocities committed by man has been in the name of craziness, and that includes all religions and Christianity.

How can atheism spur anyone to do bad things?
Could you elaborate on that, my love?
You are ridiculous.
It doesn't require a huge brain to realize that it's impossible to connect atheism to anything, for atheism is nothing.
No doctrines, no holy scripture, no leaders, no nothing.
On the other hand.

Either way the Holocaust is christian baggage.
ThieleM 6 months ago 74
@ThieleM Exactly my point starting at 3:05 when I have him say "Most Christians don't want to look in the mirror. I used religion to cause millions of Christians to wage the largest crusade in history. They're in denial. They want to hide their dirty laundry."
grahamers 6 months ago 24
@grahamers Firstly, Hitler relied primarily on Germanic romanticism and the idea that Jewish Marxists and capitalists were behind many of Germany's woes at the time. Hitler also had less than savory comments about Christianity so I personally think he was areligious at best.
Which brings me to my second point: Atheists and Christians debating this issue are morons. It is irrelevant and a rather pathetic tactic to connect Nazism to your opponent. Godwin's Law, anyone?

Christians being the largest opponent of the Nazis is a nothing claim. Christianity is the largest religion in the world, it stands to reason that christians would be the largest opponent....not just on Nazis but anything you can mention period.
In Germany during WWII Hitler's horrible actions were the direct result of a perverted Christian fundamentalism.

EasyEs 3 months ago
@EasyEs
I have clearly done a lot more than you have....
ThieleM 3 months ago
@ThieleM Err no, sorry but the actions of the Nazi party and the SS were very anti Christian in their actions. You see when people write (especially political books) they are writing for a particular audience. Hitler said himself in 1938 that he was thankful for his catholic upbringing that allowed him to understand how to politically manipulate German Christians away from the church and towards a pagan teutonic faith. The historical record is very clear about Hitler and the SS.
EasyEs 3 months ago
@EasyEs
-Adolf Hitler, 22 July 1933
ThieleM 3 months ago
@ThieleM I suppose you could tell me what Hitler meant when he uttered these words "The old beliefs will be brought back to honor again. The whole secret knowledge of nature, of the divine, the demonic. We will wash off the Christian veneer and bring out a religion peculiar to our race.”
This idea that you can simply ignore what was said and did after the Nazis solidified power and stopped pandering to German Christians shows you are not serious at all about this.
EasyEs 3 months ago
@EasyEs
ThieleM 3 months ago
@EasyEs
ThieleM 3 months ago
How about some more?

THere are thousands more, and they are backed up buy actions, treaties, laws and second and third party testimony and evidence. You have a fake quote.
Sorry Christians but HItler is your baggage.
ThieleM 3 months ago
@ThieleM You Start with a flawed idea out of the gate here. The entire intellectual movement at the time was to avoid war. Everyone was making treaties with the Nazi led Germans in a blind hope to avoid war or have pull during war. The fact that you think this is evidence to support your idea is laughable. Would you like me to run down a long list of treaties and supportive actions between Nazi Germany and just about every nation during WW2.
EasyEs 3 months ago
@EasyEs
Actually I'm not flawed, the treaty was for safe passage and non extradition. I know these treaties better than you do...I have even seen copies in archives while doing my University studies.
You know nothing about this.
ThieleM 3 months ago
@ThieleM Yes it is. You need to create a legal foundation with any political power you are dealing with and clearly you are looking at treaties an organization made with a rising political force. The fact that the church felt the need to do this should tell you a great deal. Using the concordant to conclude the personal feelings and faith of Hitler is grasping at straws and only makes a small amount of sense ignoring everything else, such the Nazi party repeatedly breaking terms and conditions
EasyEs 2 months ago
@EasyEs
thats funny
Hitler's treaties with the Vatican were for non extradition and safe passage.
Nothing to do with legal foundations or political power....he already had power.
Face it pal, Hitler was a Christian and his movement is Christianity's baggage
ThieleM 2 months ago
@ThieleM I am not sure what is the point of going on about this. The Reichskonkordat covered all kinds of matters concerning the church and Catholics in Germany. Hitler was adamant that the church stay out of political and social causes, and offered in exchange autonomy for German Catholic institutions like education. The Nazi party and Hitler wasted no time breaking tenants of the agreement. It takes a special kind of lazy and smug attitude to be proud of the ignorance on display here.
EasyEs 2 months ago
@EasyEs
The point is that you are spinning like a top.
ThieleM 2 months ago
@ThieleM These points don't support that Hitler was a Catholic. It supports political pandering. Which is what Hitler said it was in private, backed up by his change in public statements and actions once he seized power. The truth is very simple that Hitler admired some aspects of Christianity, loathed most of it, but found it useful in his political ascent and intended to discard it once the German people were committed to a new Nazi reality. He said so explicitly. How do you discount that?
EasyEs 2 months ago
@EasyEs
ThieleM 2 months ago
@ThieleM It isn't the scotsman fallacy, Hittler said in private that Christianity and Christ were too weak for the New German People. He said "Christianity is an invention of sick brains: one could imagine nothing more senseless, nor any more indecent way of turning the idea of the Godhead into a mockery When all is said, we have no reason to wish that the Italians and Spaniards should free themselves from the drug of Christianity. Let's be the only people who are immunised against the disease"
EasyEs 2 months ago
@ThieleM The best thing is to let Christianity die a natural death.... When understanding of the universe has become widespread... Christian doctrine will be convicted of absurdity.... Christianity has reached the peak of absurdity.... And that's why someday its structure will collapse.... ...the only way to get rid of Christianity is to allow it to die little by little- Hitler in 1941. What is confusing here?
EasyEs 2 months ago
@EasyEs
He sought to replace one form of spirituality with another. He was convinced that they would inevitably adopt the new spirituality and in letting Christianity "die a natural death" Hitler was allowing white Christians at least a sliver of individual choice.
Atheism is not relevant here. Racism is.
leeharveyosmosis 1 month ago
@leeharveyosmosis Oh very clearly. I never made the point that hittler was an atheist. He probably didn't believe in god but saw use in spirituality. Hittler was a mix of all kinds of things, it was discussed extensivly by historians looking at this. One major issue was keeping up the moral of your average troop in the field by allowing him to practice his faith to some degree. It is important to note that how the top Nazis saw the war was very differnt from your average soldier.
EasyEs 1 month ago
@EasyEs
And even if everything you said there was 100% accurate, and it is not, that doesn't take away the fact that Hitler was a Christian.
Nice attempt at deflection.....

@albokk "hitler was NEVER christian"
Gnomefro 9 months ago 2
@albokk In this environment Hitler claims publicly to be a Christian and receives mass support from Christians while demonizing the Jews. And you're telling me we should somehow not accept this? No sir, what is the case here is that Christianity has changed so much just in the last century that you refuse to identify with it. Try picking up the antisemitic works of the founder of Protestantism, Martin Luther btw. I think one is called "On the Jews and their Lies".
Gnomefro 9 months ago
@albokk I'm sure you can name a bunch of atheists who have killed people, but this is completely uninteresting in itself. Bearded people have killed millions of people as well. What you're looking for is a causal connection between ideology and murder. Let me summarize 'atheism' for you: "I lack belief in gods". Please show me a deductive argument that leads from this premise to any action what so ever. Don't feel like you have to restrict yourself to killing people.
Gnomefro 9 months ago
@albokk When you find that you can't, you'll realize what a retarded argument "Atheism leads to mass murder" is. You need positive beliefs to produce actions and atheism does not provide this so it can not be a cause of any of the murders you mention, just as it can't be the cause of anything good those people may have done.
Christianity on the other hand - is an ideology. As is Communism. And we know perfectly well that people have killed in the name of(=*because of*) both throughout history.
Gnomefro 9 months ago 2
@albokk At best you could take the "no true Christian" route. However, this doesn't change the fact that Christian ideology has caused, and causes, all kinds of disasters for humanity. Who are opposing condom distribution in AIDS ridden regions of Africa because "God doesn't like it"? Christians. That's Christians murdering people because of their superstition. So get the fuck off your high horse and start shoveling away its shit.

TheBermudaMan 1 year ago
@TheBermudaMan If he loved Darwins theory so much.... why was "On the origin of the species" banned by the Nazis? The stronger race supplanting the weaker is from Friedrich Nieztche
SolarGrooving 1 year ago 2
@TheBermudaMan The problem is that Darwin's theory of evolution and natural selection only tries to explain what happens in nature. It doesnt say anything about what we should do and how we should act.
Saying that someone who accepts evolution must support the killing of "weaker individuals" is like saying that someone who accepts gravity should be throwing things into the air.
