  • This is the great thing about country music. No matter where you come from in the world everyone has hard times. Wyclef has always been country. No one has just told him yet. haha. He is very similar to Johnny Cash in his breaking of musical rules.

  • I've been watching this video for almost a decade now and it still blows my mind

  • I wish the rap bit wasnt there...but still, great cover

  • This was my introduction to Wyclef...on a PBS station in Orlando. His talent blew me away...even with the understated delivery you could see in his eyes and hear in his voice that he was playing us. If you can't tell from his music how exceptionally intellegent this man is, you are not listening.

  • This is a Fucken disgrace this footage should be completely deleted

  • @corpsegrinder909 Your grammar is a disgrace and your comment should be completely deleted.

  • @corpsegrinder909 just letting you know johnny cash himself was in the audience and absolutely loved every bit of this performance. Johnny said "Wyclef stole the show, it was wonderful" it was a great tribute to country music by someone not associated with the genre... soooo you dong know what you're talking about keep your opinions to yourself... you are a fucking disgrace

  • You're fucking stupid.

  • who approved for this black to sing one of johnny's songs? plus he does not make a single rhyme in his free style. plus I think he is naked.

  • @peloneEarl Nice to know you're a racist. Also, he rhymed "me" with "Bentley". Idiot.

  • @peloneEarl just letting you know johnny cash himself was in the audience and absolutely loved every bit of this performance. Johnny said "Wyclef stole the show, it was wonderful" sooo johnny gave him permission dick head

  • i love this

  • This sucks.

  • Wyclef is awesome

  • wow it is realy good

  • I think this is the best version of this song I have heard and Im not a huge Wyclef fan but he did an awesome job!

  • This is very bluesy... I like it!

  • I have great respect for Wyclef now... well, always have.

  • That was actually really good.

  • this sucks

  • This is the song that started my love affair with Cash's music.

  • "Johnny Cash, here you hold my Glock!"

  • Der Rap is doof.

  • Personally, thought this was the greatest performance of the Whole Concert! Even my dad, whose was a huge Johnny Cash fan & as redneck as they come, was blown away be this. It was hysterical & great. Made me so proud of Wyclef. Even the Country Music Audiance gave him an Outstanding Ovation for this.

  • This is a strong interpretation of the original song. I didn't like the rap in the middle but the rest was a very impressive nod to the Man in Black.

  • This is fuckin good

  • It ain't that bad. Little twist is cool.

  • naah this is shit

  • Fy for den lede!!! :(

  • When i first saw this televised it has stuck with me since and that says something for the song and the singer

  • This is great! Thanks for posting!

  • anyone who knocks this cover, doesnt understand the man johnny cash. Mr Cash played his music with a certain kind of energy. And Wylclef played this with energy and feeling. Iam sure he was honoured to play at this benefit. and iam dont like new music but Jean's cover was from the heart

  • @maxfedor1 Johnny Cash didn't rap in the middle of his songs.

  • and while i'm doling out johnny cash, here's a moment of genius...you can thank me later.

  • while i'm dolling out johnny cash gifts...drink deep and enjoy.

  • This is the best!!! Wyclef rocks.

  • quite weird to hear my name in that context. hm.

  • Very cool. I like a cover that respects the original, but still sounds original on it's own. Not just a kareoke of the sone.

  • nice job wyclef!! great rendition!!

  • Johnny would have loved it!!! Not a straight tribute (which anyone could have done), but he started out by honoring The Man and the song, then he made it his own... In MY mind, that is the greater tribute - that he embraced the song as well.

I never really listened to Wyclef before this, but the guy is a CLASS act!!!

  • @Just4Meeeee

Johny DID love it, he was there listening when this tribute was done in 99 at the Hammerstein in NYC i think it was. I loved it then, and I love it now - kinda forgot it existed for a decade :P Brilliant cover for a brilliant man.

  • nice pickin!

    hoodathunkit

    nice job, wyclef

    nice guitar too

  • So many idiots that don't get it.

Johnny Cash loved music. NOT country music. Music.

Johnny stood against nearly everything that rednecks stand for. He loved this rendition of the song.

  • Clef stole the show that night. Alot of retardates commenting on this post.

  • Except for the freestyle, he did a decent job.

  • HA! That was fun.

  • I think he sounds great, the only problem with the song is that he doen not sing with the pain the Johnny cash sang with...When Cash would sing you felt his pain as if it were your own.. He was amazing...

  • So i'm shocked he actually did a great job.

  • Never heard Wycliffe before this evening but i bet Johnny would be proud.

  • what a great performance

  • i love the Country music &

johnny Cash the best singer for ever

  • absolutely love it! with staying true to the original version he still manages to make it a bit of his own. Great job!

  • I love that public enemy quote at the start! Brings back the 90's memories!

Wyclef Jean - great voice - great artist, and if not the greatest, one of the most passionate artists in any genre - he may not always produce a great album - he had a couple of dodgy ones 6/7 years ago - but they all sound like he is having so much fun, and gets into it - and that is what gets him by! Love it! Cheers for posting! CLEFFFFFF!!!!!!

  • No wonder people were cheering. This was brilliant! Johnny went and shook his hand after the finale when Johnny sang Walk The Line.Thanx for this.

  • Oh man, I saw this on TV probably 10 years ago and I haev been trying sporadically to find this performance ever since. Wyclef is a genius.

  • absolutely love this version, have a tribute cd to johnny cash with this on it and its my favourite cd i own

  • As a 50 year old with varied musical taste this , in my humble opinion, a wholly magical melding of styles. Pure genius.

  • Brill tribute to the legend that is Johnny R Cash

  • I go crazy with Wyclef

    from Saudi Arabia,

I`m sending my kiss to him & to Johnny cash.

  • to all the rednecks saying this version sucks -- you'd have to argue the point with Johnny himself. Johnny loved it....

  • what about ray charles?!!

    fucking rednecks...

  • One of the first songs I learned on the guitar. Wyclef did a great job with his own style to boot!

  • kind of cool version.

wyclef the man!! i think hes a very good musican

  • I usualy hate ecover tunes, but i LOVED THIS.

Very talented, and very true to the original, while still making it "his own"

    Good job

  • very talented

  • im a fuckin huge johnny cash fan. i have a picture of him tattooed on my back. and i think this is phenomenal cover. one of the best covers ive ever heard of any of his songs.

  • I agree. This is a great cover! I was really happy to see this song had finally made it on here!

  • I remember watching this tribute to Johnny Cash. All of the other artists on the show butchered Johnny's music except for Wyclef Jean and Kris Kristofferson. I didn't even know who he Wyclef Jean was.

  • I am a big fan of Johnny and I like Wyclef's tribute to Johnny. Goes to show how far Cash's influence went and Wyclef's rendering of the song is extremely well done.

  • not as good as the original, of course, but still good! there definitely is a link between Johnny and gangsta rappers. they got the melodies from James Brown, but the lyrics from Johnny Cash!

  • This is tight as hell. rivergup07 is just a little ,impotent, weakling agitater. OBAMA 2008!

  • Wow, real interesting version by Wyclef Jean !

  • Really have to stop all this racist shit, because you are basically proving your stupid ignorance. This song started off a looooong time before cash came around, it's a traditional blues ballad and it's basically accepted that it was written by black folk, However, cash added more lyrics to it and made it his own. I quite like this version, but theres just something missing without that sombre cash tone.

Dont open your mouths lest your foot slide in you ignorant little Nazis!

  • I know nothing about rap and a huge Johnny fan, but this is hands-down the best cover of one of his songs, IMO.

  • Johnny would disagree with you...he was there that night and loved it...

  • wyclef..i spit hot fiya

  • Even negro's like Johnny Cash.

  • this really is not bad. I kinda like it.

  • to be very honest Johny cash would of realy like this

  • you are a fucking douchebag

  • ummmmm......PeeWee Herman is a legend.

  • I'll be seeing him at Voodoo Fest this fall, I'd crap my pants off if he did this.

  • i think he carries the irony of the song very well.and he's wearing black.

  • I watched the whole show. Wyclef was the only one that did any justice to the songs of Johnny Cash. I'm not into to rap but this was the best performance of the night. I have never heard of Wyclef up until now.

  • Johnny would have loved this, well done wycleff

  • I thought this was good, if only Wyclef brought the same energy to the whole song that he did for those few seconds toward the end. Still really good though. I've always liked Wyclef, but now I gained a lot more respect for him.

  • now why does somebody have to go and shit on a perfectly great song?

  • If you know anything about Johnny Cash and his love for all music, you would understand....I can guarantee you that Johnny loved it when he saw it.

  • I know Johnny Cash has respect for all music but I don't.

  • wyclef brings a new energy to a great song and rebirths a legend! remember music is 360 there are remakes samples and tributes wyclef is a true artist. show some respect for a legend that is makeing a tribte to another legend!!!!

  • NOTHING ON CASH!

  • I dont like hip hop so much but this is perfect

  • Unbelieveable mixing of two distinctively differnt genres. My hat's off to Wyclef. Simply stunningly good.

  • I agree with you...

  • I liked it except for the rap bit. Must have taken a hell of a lot of guts to perform that song. Kudos.

  • I thought it was a little weak until the end, I love Wyclef, but he sounded really uncomfortable until after his frestyle, the ending was great though.

  • Great version, loved the rap bit.

  • I recall this being one of the best performances of the night. Let's face it, 'Clef killed it. I'm sure Mr. Cash was sitting there thinking, "Damn. This is better than my version."

  • I think not...

  • Fuck you, super-fan.

  • The beat make me think of the old time

  • y'all need to show this man right here some respects

  • This guy right here is everywhere

Kompa, zouk, Salsa, Reagaton, Hip Pop, Rap, etc..

  • Amazing..

  • "mom said don't play with guns, so Johnny Cash, here you hold my glock"

  • Such respect for both men, both dare/dared to be different.

  • Wyclef is Brilliant!

  • Absolutely brilliant.

  • Cool jammin' tune!

  • Are you serious you piece of trash

  • your comment saddens me.

  • i wish i could be klef,ha hah

  • Sometimes a hip-hop artist needs to be exposed to people who might immediately dismiss him. Wyclef definitely gained new fans that would NEVER had listened before...(me included). Peace

  • Damn, it gave me chills.

  • Been looking for this song for years. Saw it years ago late night on TNT. I wish everyone could see this version of "Delia's Gone." Wyclef is truly a muscian.

  • I saw this cash tribute live on tv some years ago. Wyclef's Delia hung with me and about 5 years ago I burned an awesome recording of this from Napster - kicks ass every time I pull it up when I'm cruisin'. Many people in the audience gained an eye opening and a new respect of there own as Wyclef knocked this out of the park. Great stuff here.

    David

  • well, wyclef is a badasss. he's a cultered dude. the video "gone til november" features bob dylan. but yeah, this gives me chills.

  • "got a call from my agent, he said, they want me to do the Johnny Cash Show - you gotta be kiddin me!"

    Wycleff is da man

  • Amazing job!

  • Have been wanting to see this for years. lost it on vhs sometime ago! Awesome performance.

  • Johnny was proud. He was there. This was a tribute show to him before he died. I have been looking for this very preformance for a long time.

  • Great! A rapper dares to cover this song. Respect. And tobaker: yes he would.

  • johnny would have been proud

  • Always knew Wyclef was worth a damn

  • amazingly nice looking video... wycley is the shit

  • wyclef rocked this song - great version !

  • Good song, but it's still not the same. I like Wyclef dressing the part, lol.

  • amazing
