This is the great thing about country music. No matter where you come from in the world everyone has hard times. Wyclef has always been country. No one has just told him yet. haha. He is very similar to Johnny Cash in his breaking of musical rules.
This was my introduction to Wyclef...on a PBS station in Orlando. His talent blew me away...even with the understated delivery you could see in his eyes and hear in his voice that he was playing us. If you can't tell from his music how exceptionally intellegent this man is, you are not listening.
@corpsegrinder909 just letting you know johnny cash himself was in the audience and absolutely loved every bit of this performance. Johnny said "Wyclef stole the show, it was wonderful" it was a great tribute to country music by someone not associated with the genre... soooo you dong know what you're talking about keep your opinions to yourself... you are a fucking disgrace

Personally, thought this was the greatest performance of the Whole Concert! Even my dad, whose was a huge Johnny Cash fan & as redneck as they come, was blown away be this. It was hysterical & great. Made me so proud of Wyclef. Even the Country Music Audiance gave him an Outstanding Ovation for this.

this is one of the best johnny cash covers ive ever heard!!!!!!! up untill he started rapping like a stupid nigger.......but up untill that part THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!
anyone who knocks this cover, doesnt understand the man johnny cash. Mr Cash played his music with a certain kind of energy. And Wylclef played this with energy and feeling. Iam sure he was honoured to play at this benefit. and iam dont like new music but Jean's cover was from the heart
Johnny would have loved it!!! Not a straight tribute (which anyone could have done), but he started out by honoring The Man and the song, then he made it his own... In MY mind, that is the greater tribute - that he embraced the song as well.
I never really listened to Wyclef before this, but the guy is a CLASS act!!!
Johny DID love it, he was there listening when this tribute was done in 99 at the Hammerstein in NYC i think it was. I loved it then, and I love it now - kinda forgot it existed for a decade :P Brilliant cover for a brilliant man.
I think he sounds great, the only problem with the song is that he doen not sing with the pain the Johnny cash sang with...When Cash would sing you felt his pain as if it were your own.. He was amazing...

When you come right down to it, though, all those people are applauding a guy who killed a woman for disrespecting him. The story is just the same as every abusive man who kills his lover. Why couldn't he have chosen another of Johnny Cash's hundreds of songs to celebrate?
I love that public enemy quote at the start! Brings back the 90's memories!
Wyclef Jean - great voice - great artist, and if not the greatest, one of the most passionate artists in any genre - he may not always produce a great album - he had a couple of dodgy ones 6/7 years ago - but they all sound like he is having so much fun, and gets into it - and that is what gets him by! Love it! Cheers for posting! CLEFFFFFF!!!!!!
im a fuckin huge johnny cash fan. i have a picture of him tattooed on my back. and i think this is phenomenal cover. one of the best covers ive ever heard of any of his songs.
I remember watching this tribute to Johnny Cash. All of the other artists on the show butchered Johnny's music except for Wyclef Jean and Kris Kristofferson. I didn't even know who he Wyclef Jean was.
I am a big fan of Johnny and I like Wyclef's tribute to Johnny. Goes to show how far Cash's influence went and Wyclef's rendering of the song is extremely well done.
not as good as the original, of course, but still good! there definitely is a link between Johnny and gangsta rappers. they got the melodies from James Brown, but the lyrics from Johnny Cash!
Really have to stop all this racist shit, because you are basically proving your stupid ignorance. This song started off a looooong time before cash came around, it's a traditional blues ballad and it's basically accepted that it was written by black folk, However, cash added more lyrics to it and made it his own. I quite like this version, but theres just something missing without that sombre cash tone.
Dont open your mouths lest your foot slide in you ignorant little Nazis!

This is fucking lame. At like 2:15 what the fuck is that horse-shit? This guy blows, and I don't care who thinks he's a "Legend". There are people that think Pee Wee Herman is a legend, but that doesn't make it true.
I watched the whole show. Wyclef was the only one that did any justice to the songs of Johnny Cash. I'm not into to rap but this was the best performance of the night. I have never heard of Wyclef up until now.
I thought this was good, if only Wyclef brought the same energy to the whole song that he did for those few seconds toward the end. Still really good though. I've always liked Wyclef, but now I gained a lot more respect for him.

Been looking for this song for years. Saw it years ago late night on TNT. I wish everyone could see this version of "Delia's Gone." Wyclef is truly a muscian.
I saw this cash tribute live on tv some years ago. Wyclef's Delia hung with me and about 5 years ago I burned an awesome recording of this from Napster - kicks ass every time I pull it up when I'm cruisin'.
