In my opinion, you need to make a non-porous shell over the cardboard before painting. You can use JB weld or another slow-drying epoxy to do it. After it sets, you just sand it to the proper shape and paint. I made a foregrip for my Tippmann 98 Custom using this method and it's well worth the time spent. Aside from that, it's a good replica though
