I wish they could wait for me to explore this caves. I would love to bring the best real footage of this cave to Vietnamese Audiences. Well-known Documentaries about Vietnamese natural wonders made by foreigners which are amazing but what if it was made by Vietnamese? so excited.
I work closely with ben and bich from the phong nha farmstay for a company called oxalis adventure tours. We have the license to run the first ever tourist trek to and inside this cave in the first week of December. This will be a four day trek.
Vote for Ha long Bay (Halong) in English as the new Seven Wonder of Nature on wwwnew7wonderscom (there is a dot in wn and sc for this link, comments on YouTube do not show the dot in the URL, you add the dot in the URL and paste in the browser to get to their wesite to vote). You have to register to vote on their website until 11.11.2011. Our country, Vietnam, brings this wonderful bay to the world. It's the only one found in nature.
Many on youtube like a wild rumor - folklore in Phong Nga Village tells of Bich's mother shooting down an American Jet with a rifle and then nursing the dude back to health. It would be great to find the old Us hawk to whom it is concerning. The wreck of the plane is still there.
This area also claims to be the most heavily bombed during the Vietnam war due to the important river crossing and also the caves where Ho Chi Minh used to stash his ordinance. In fact jets flew up the river to fire rockets into a nearby cave mouth. Immediately afterward pulling into a vertical climb to avoid the 200m sheer cliffs. Maybe some Vietnam vets remember this because it must surely been a terrifying mission. Many died trying to bomb those there ordinance. None succeeded.
Anyone interested in visiting this cave system should contact Phong Nga Farmstay - the only westerner run guesthouse in the area. Set up by Aussie Ben and his wife Bich 1 year ago. Bich used to do translation work for local restricted area authorities on behalf of an NGO in which this cave lies.

A Chinese porcelain was found in this Cave..This Cave must belong to China since Ancient time...According to CCTV = Commie Chinese controlled Tevelevision
@Tenchcnet there are some passages in the cave that caver team could not explore due to lack of equipments, they will come back and check them out in March 2012
There's no such thing as a Vietnamese word with 2 consecutive vowels like "Doong." It's spelled Dong so I hope they fix this soon before it's known to the world with a mispelled word. That would be embarrassing.
@doetim : Hi, actually there are some Vietnamese words containg "oong" such as "xoong" (cooking pot), "boong" (chime of bell) or "boong tàu" (ship deck). But of course the number of such words is very small. The correct name of the cave in Vietnamese is "Hang Sơn Đoòng". :D
@doetim just more information, the cave is named after the village where it is located. the name of the village is Đoòng in. Sơn is a Han - Viet word which mean mountain.
@doetim I don't think it's intended as a consecutive vowel. I've seen this in other language translations when character based languages phonemes are translated into romanized letters. Such as Japanese Katakana and Hiragana translated into Romaji or in the case of Vietnamese, Chữ Quốc Ngữ, which is actually based on the portugese alphabet.
@doetim Hi - Son Doong is local name "word goes with 'oo' is very common in Quang Binh area, such as Nuo Mooc eco trail, Trooc village...it is local name and Son Doong is the name they wanted to use not by mistake...
So of course, fearing my honesty and envy of Vietnamese superiority. The Indian people ONCE again limited my posting of a few words. Yep, back to the main topic. So I suspected the Thuy Tinh people dig deeper into the earth, building dams and high walls to slow down the flow of water. They probably dig themselves all the way to Thailand or somewhere deep into the ocean floor (which I doubted because of the ocean pressure, any caves would collapse). There is hope for humanity, again!
Whatever dudes, the cave are founded by the Sea King or Thuy Tinh a loooong time ago. Yep, because of different ideology...Vietnamese split into two groups, one lived in mountain, the other sea. Of course back then the ocean level was not this high and so the cave was the dwelling of Thuy Tinh people. They were probably isolated and mutate into a superior race of people (probably build those UFOs) or drowned by the monsoon every year. Knowing Vietnamese, I doubt it.
