  • could u tab the harmonica part? cant get it sounding right

    cheers

  • 8:04 .....is GREAT!

  • being self taught here ,and used to playing Double chords ala EltonJjohn ,i find it more natural to only bang the C octave in the left (limited hand) while playing Inverted chords more in the E flat position ,B flat F and C over the Cchord.

in other words the first chord should be Bb Db G over the C,etc.easier for me to play and ringier.

  • Happy to have found you ~! basically with that accent Id follow you anywhere!

  • Shame the rhythm is mashed

  • Prova harp in F. Is better

  • Well done, best tutorial in the intro yet!!!! Thank you!

  • can you do coming home to see you? pleaseeeeeeeee *_*

  • @MrPitcka2 UP UP UP

  • DUDE! i was just watching the video for this song and commented, "I GOTTA learn the piano part for this song." back arrowed out...and here this is!

    thanks!

  • Thank you for the lesson. You did a fine job of explaining the song. Much appreciated!

  • Shit de merde..The video stops at 3:16..I can't get the harmonica part...

  • Hey great intro for the "by the ear" piano player......I played it right the first time mate....

  • EXCELLENT!

  • Thanks for putting this here. Very good teaching!

  • thanks lenny for that first part, you ever get around to it.be great to get the verses chords or part II..........thanks

  • Thanks!!!

  • I think you should add the numbers/notes for the harmonica to.

  • Lenny, Thank you so much. You make the understanding of the music a lot easier for the many of us without a formal music education. I can recognize that sheet music is music but not a clue how to read it. you made it all easy to understand.

I am already getting the knack of it thaks to you.

Will you be doing more supertramp???

  • This was one of my very first songs that I ever heard as a very young kid. I still love it today. You produced a great video here. I play guitar well, self-taught, but you inspire me to learn piano and harmonica. Great teaching. Thank you.

  • 8 people took a shortcut

  • WOOOW!! Awesome tutorial. I'll try to learn this song.

    Thank you !!

  • I am so greatfull you took the time to do this .a great lesson 'you made it look very easy thank you

  • Dude you feel the music!!!

  • excellent dude, i swear for a guy with little bear paws you rule !!! (hey Elton John always said he had tinyhands....)

  • great piano tutorial, really appreciate it.

I find it easier to play the harp in F, you get all the notes you need, but the G and C become draws. Much easier to get the hit the notes and get the expressive bends.

  • thanks for this great tuturial

  • hi,Thx for sharing your knowledge!

I dont play piano neither harmonica but i love Supertramp, and i appreciate guys like you who takes their time for others.

    Thx, and congratulations from France

I think you are great! Nice explanation!

    Greetings from Austria

    Klemens

  • Great job man you should definetly post more vids. Great lesson

  • Yesss:-)))

  • where can we have you keynote paper at 6:43 ???

  • How and where do I take the long way home?

  • I cannot play piano at all and I wish that I could find the time to learn it. Thus it was so exciting for me to watch this video and see the song slowly become fuller throughout the nine minutes. Thank you for posting.

  • great lesson..thanks!!..my first tune to learn on piano I just bought today....Looking forward to more of your lessons :)

  • One of the only people who can make it sound as good. You did an awesome job man. I am a judgmental about music like if the artist dosent sing their song like they did in the original recording it bugs me haha. For an example You did an AWESOME job You sound great.

  • thank you so much for this posting. if i wasn't still in my pyjamas i'd run out to get an F harp. its going on my fovourites so when i get my off my butt i can practise, practise, practise

  • Waaay cool. Thanks much from Michigan! Much appreciated.

  • I just want to say that that way to bend is really bad for the harp. The proper way to bend is with your tongue. My drawing harder, you add unneeded stress on the reeds.

The piano lesson was great, though.

  • thanks a lot i have being trying to it that harmonica peace down for ever

  • Very clear and good! Hope to see other lessons from you (I'll have a a look at your channel)

  • Very great. I discovered this song very recently and it's a pleasure to play it at the piano. Thanks to you. I've also started the harmonica but it's quite hard to play for the moment. (sorry for english mistakes, i'm french).

  • Dude your awsome thanks for helping me with this song, please keep making videos like this=)

  • Brilliant! Thanks a lot for that! You really do make it look a lot easier than it sounds!

  • thank you !!

  • Thanks so much for this!

I have to point out one thing though, on the song, you can hear he plays Bb before Fsus4 and also before the last C chord in the sequence.

  • One of the most wonderful tutorials I've ever seen and heard on youtube !

You're truly dedicated on what you do so yes, you're definitely a music man, Lenny ;-)

Hope to hear and see some more from you.

Just one question: what kind of harmonica are you using over there ? Diatonic, chromatic, tremolo ?

  • @Keybern This is a lovely blues harp, a diatonic harmonica. Chromatic ones are arranged a little differently, and tremolo are rarely used in Western music. ^_^

  • Hello, Thank you for the tuto, I just would like to telle you that there is a G bass in half time every begining of a new part.

  • Hi Lenny, it`s a great pleasure to listen to your music. You are a perfect teacher, too.

I`m working hard on my Technics keyboard, but I never learned to play the harp. Now I`ll try it again.

  • Thanks!

  • Would You Please Post a Tutorial of The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys Thanx

  • Thank You I learned a lot from this video, I already play the piano but the harmonica is strange for me :) can you tell me one thing: in this song you just inhale the notes in the harmonica or you also blow some air (sorry for my english) best regards from Portugal

  • Great job on the intro ! You took it slow, you repeated it, you told us the notes etc great job !

  • Thanks Lenny. Helps quite a bit.

  • Great Lesson THANKS!!!

  • Thank you :)

  • Thank you!

  • Thank you so much musicmanlenny! It's been years since I played piano and I don't remember chords, especially by name. Now I can learn this great song. And my co-worker plays harmonica but didn't know what key harmonica it was. He will benefit from your lesson also. Great job explaining it all. Hope I can learn it now. Thank you again!!!

    ema from italy

    ematube

  • simply nice....

  • PERFECT on the piano!

  • Absolutely excellent!!

  • First time I learned a new song with my PC on the piano, and it worked-out! Great, thanks for the great video.

  • Best piano tutorial I've seen. For clearness and ease.

  • Excellent - very clear instructions. Please post more songs. Thanks!

  • thanks ;) !!

  • thank you ;) 5 stars ;)

  • you're the man lenny

  • Thanks for the no BS training - loved it!

  • Excellent vid. now i realize i have the wrong harmonica for this song.

  • Thank you for your perfect training.

  • Your the man. Thanks for your lesson. I like the way you teach music.

  • Nice tutorial both for piano and harmonica.Hope you can share with us the complete chords of the song .

  • Very good! Thanks!

  • Blues harp tip: Soak the harp in water about 15 minutes before you start to play. It casues the wood to swell a bit - making the holes a little smaller and allowing you to get more velocity of air when you bend the notes. You must dry out the harp really well when done to avoid rusting. If one can afford it, it's better to use a glass of Vodka.

  • Excellent tutorial. Just wish you would go through the rest of the song.

Increasing the harp up 5 semitones / up a fourth / is called cross harping.

  • wow, thank you thank you thank you!

  • ThankKKKKKKKK

  • Bravo!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great video, it's a real treat to get a lesson from a pro. Keep the faith. Sincere thanks.

  • Great, fantastic song, love Supertramp

  • awesome job

  • Thank you for the explanation. You are obviously a music theory master!

  • Ha ha, not quite. I took music theory in

    10th grade.

I picked up the basics of construction for all chords. Learned to play the piano that way.

  • Wonderful. How about the bridge though?

  • hold up, could you please elaborate on the "F suspended 4th", all other chords are explained but this. is it f, b flat, and c?

  • Yes. Fsus4 is F,Bb,C.

The rule for suspended 4ths is to take the 3rd and raise it a half step. It's the same for every chord.

    For example. C major is C, E, G

    C sus4 is C, F, G.

F is a half step up from E.

  • thanks!

  • Reminds me of SID player on my commodore 64, awesome job, thanks for breaking it dow!

  • hey thanks alot man...i could always play the harp but it is nice to see the keyboard bits. i look forward to learning some more things from you.

  • Your'e welcome.

  • hey that was great thanks..always wanted to play that...garve

  • Thanks for your comment.

  • Thank You Lenny, I love the song and have the chords but of course the chords do not always fall in the obvious positions. You have made the song what it really is. Many thanks. You have saved me hours and possibly even giving up and moving on to something else. Now I can really enjoy this heartfelt masterpiece.
