being self taught here ,and used to playing Double chords ala EltonJjohn ,i find it more natural to only bang the C octave in the left (limited hand) while playing Inverted chords more in the E flat position ,B flat F and C over the Cchord.
in other words the first chord should be Bb Db G over the C,etc.easier for me to play and ringier.
Lenny, Thank you so much. You make the understanding of the music a lot easier for the many of us without a formal music education. I can recognize that sheet music is music but not a clue how to read it. you made it all easy to understand.
I am already getting the knack of it thaks to you.
This was one of my very first songs that I ever heard as a very young kid. I still love it today. You produced a great video here. I play guitar well, self-taught, but you inspire me to learn piano and harmonica. Great teaching. Thank you.
I find it easier to play the harp in F, you get all the notes you need, but the G and C become draws. Much easier to get the hit the notes and get the expressive bends.
I cannot play piano at all and I wish that I could find the time to learn it. Thus it was so exciting for me to watch this video and see the song slowly become fuller throughout the nine minutes. Thank you for posting.
One of the only people who can make it sound as good. You did an awesome job man. I am a judgmental about music like if the artist dosent sing their song like they did in the original recording it bugs me haha. For an example You did an AWESOME job You sound great.
thank you so much for this posting. if i wasn't still in my pyjamas i'd run out to get an F harp. its going on my fovourites so when i get my off my butt i can practise, practise, practise
I just want to say that that way to bend is really bad for the harp. The proper way to bend is with your tongue. My drawing harder, you add unneeded stress on the reeds.
Very great. I discovered this song very recently and it's a pleasure to play it at the piano. Thanks to you. I've also started the harmonica but it's quite hard to play for the moment. (sorry for english mistakes, i'm french).
@Keybern This is a lovely blues harp, a diatonic harmonica. Chromatic ones are arranged a little differently, and tremolo are rarely used in Western music. ^_^
Thank You I learned a lot from this video, I already play the piano but the harmonica is strange for me :) can you tell me one thing: in this song you just inhale the notes in the harmonica or you also blow some air (sorry for my english) best regards from Portugal
Thank you so much musicmanlenny! It's been years since I played piano and I don't remember chords, especially by name. Now I can learn this great song. And my co-worker plays harmonica but didn't know what key harmonica it was. He will benefit from your lesson also. Great job explaining it all. Hope I can learn it now. Thank you again!!!
Blues harp tip: Soak the harp in water about 15 minutes before you start to play. It casues the wood to swell a bit - making the holes a little smaller and allowing you to get more velocity of air when you bend the notes. You must dry out the harp really well when done to avoid rusting. If one can afford it, it's better to use a glass of Vodka.
I'm just coming home from a Rodger Hodgson concert and it was fantastic! Your video is also great! Thank you for posting it so i can go to my piano now and play it ;)
Thank you for the lesson, and taking the time to make this video. Now I'll see if I can put it all together. Is very nice of you to share your knowledge
Thank You Lenny, I love the song and have the chords but of course the chords do not always fall in the obvious positions. You have made the song what it really is. Many thanks. You have saved me hours and possibly even giving up and moving on to something else. Now I can really enjoy this heartfelt masterpiece.
A long-time guitarist/song writer by nature - I've been trying to translate my ability to play by ear to the piano. Your insight and breakdown are priceless - CHEERS to you my friend; your patient effort is sincerley appreciated and of great value to the world of wanna-be! Thanks!

Ha ha, not quite. I took music theory in
10th grade.
I picked up the basics of construction for all chords. Learned to play the piano that way.
at90percent 2 years ago
Wonderful. How about the bridge though?
beewardrobe 2 years ago
hold up, could you please elaborate on the "F suspended 4th", all other chords are explained but this. is it f, b flat, and c?
deviousdoses 2 years ago
Yes. Fsus4 is F,Bb,C.
The rule for suspended 4ths is to take the 3rd and raise it a half step. It's the same for every chord.
For example. C major is C, E, G
C sus4 is C, F, G.
F is a half step up from E.
