I m french and i almost understood everything you said (ok i watched the video twice) except the part where you say in what part of France you are : P
Ok, the hollidays are over, you lost the minor weight gain, despite sitting around moping. Youv'e gone Euro by refusing to shave, and have discovered that French guys smell cheesey. I expect to see a good video by the time you get back. Get back to work.
I turn my back for a minute...okay, more than a few days...and you're in FRANCE!! Oui =) I'm with ReliableInsider: Group Hug for Ms. Famous. un, deux, trois, HUG!!
Hang in there Stacie. Sounds like some great memories are about to be made. And some great videos too, I suspect!
STACIE!! are you out there?!! a whole new world eh? you sound just frazzled dudet- im sorry! I thought this was a vaca? haha! but house? how long are you there for? I hope you can survive all those french fries!
WELCOME TO EUROPE, STACIE!! LOL! I CAN RELATE...Ditto re: moving to France...Shoot, by the time you "adjust" you will be moving back to the US!! Fred & I have been in Italy for ONE month now, and IT DOES GET BETTER!! HANG IN THERE! CALL ME!
Just trying to put you at ease with the language thing because no one speaks english here in California either, lol. The lack of WiFi actually sounds wonderful to me. It's an excuse for you to tune out the world for a while. Don't worry, we'll all be here when you get back. Have fun mon ami :)
Stacie, I hope you do vids in France...I would love to see some..Many people in France speak English although some can feel offended but only some...Your such a sweet person. You will find friends. Why not post a copy of this Video on YoutubeFR and maybe some gal will write you and show you around. ~RAven
Wow Stacie; sounds like major culture shock. Hang in there. English is a dominant language, even for France. It's just that in my experience, they aren't the most accommodating people around & may even pretend not to understand you when you speak French less than perfectly.
Ahh, are any of your viewers from france? That would help... I think no matter where you are in the world, if you have a humble and appreciative attitude, people work with you... :-) So you should do fine. But it must be huge culture shock setting in... how long are you there for? (i think i missed that bit of info)
No daily internet access would be torturous. Maybe you can make a wish and wake up tomorrow and the house across the street magically became a Starbucks with free Web access. But a month in France sounds great to me. I don't know if this is an annual thing with you but have a good time. Plus here is you're first early YT Birthday greeting.
To communicate... hand gestures and speak loudly but slowly. Apparently when you do this anyone can understand English.... I've seen people doing it time and time again.
Yeah same thing happened to me. I was in Paris and I had a hard time speaking to people even though I know a lot of French. Canadian-French is apparently much different from the French they speak there. Good luck!
So what I am gathering is that France is a third world country when it comes to Internet! Stacie, how can you sacrifice yourself like that! Come back to the Good Ol' US of A!
i know the exact feeling you're....uh, feeling. I've been living in Tokyo for 3 months. Some days are easy, some days - when i actually have to get stuff done, like go to the post office - are extremely unnerving. I'm fluent in french. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot them my way. G'luck Stacey!
Wow, France! You seem sad right now with so many questions about culture, language, trash, internet, food and most important ~~ hair products! :D I know you'll warm up to your surroundings quickly and LOVE the experience. I love hearing about these adjustments so keep them coming. There must be an internet cafe close.
I love France. :) Some tips for learning the language are:
-memorize a few (5-10) basic sentences that you can use to get the basic structure of the language down. Ie. Je ne le vous ai donné pas, Le pain c'est combien? Then as you learn more words, you can add them into the sentences.
-don't hesitate to use it. Most people are flattered when you go through the effort of trying to learn their language.
-whenever you don't know how to say something, write it down and find the translation later.
How long are you in France for and what took you there if you can tell lol Regardless, great experience for you, and I'm glad you like the house. We are spoiled with our internet services. Even Australia has broadband but it soooooo slow. Well, next time you see a suave frenchman at a cafe with a laptop, ask LOADS of questions lol Take us out.. Let's see France. I love France, most romantic city in the world = )
in france, you can just throw your trash out the window. everyone does it.
if you find that people can't understand you, just speak slow, loud english. french people love that.
drape yourself in an american flag, and then ride around town on your bike shouting "we cleaned up de gaulte's mess in world war II!" you'll meet lots of new people that way.
follow those simple steps, and you'll be well on your way to overcoming culture shock. best of luck!
I'm just feeding the popular stereotype but I think most of France would be last on my list. However, once there I would immerse myself in the culture and definitely try to find willing playmates for my young kids.
About not finding foods you're familiar with... that makes me giggle ☺☺☺. As longs as I had a meat market and a veggie stand I'd be fine. Chicken still is chicken even if they sell it with the head and feet still attached. :-)

You should be able to get a DSL connection through the phone line if Wi-Fi is not available. Smal towns are horrible for the tech age.
