7:14 "Religion is such an obvious no brainer." Agreed, but there's the rub. Instead of giving the one thing that we have that allows us to know reality, you play around with the gut, and the consequences are supremely harmful to humanity.
Take the Hitchens challenge: Name one moral thing that only a theist would say. Then name an immoral thing only a theist would say. Nothing for the first, lots for the 2nd. What does that tell you?
Why insult Christians? I don't insult the person. I insult the ridiculous ideas. I have too much respect for you to respect your horrible, silly, and (underneath it all) hateful faith.
Faith in a divine creator is a support of tyranny pal. To me your heart is that of a slave that wants me to be a slave too. It's not like I haven't thought about it.
The godly entity you speak of is supernatural and can't affect this natural reality that we find ourselves in. If the supernatural could affect the natural reality it would not be considered supernatural. The bible readers are only influenced by what they determine the words in the scripture mean and not because an external god influenced them to perform the unsaid action. It’s that simple no need for belief in a higher power.
Excellent video cristofer. I too was very surprised by @TogetherForPeace video its almost as though he has reached a crossroads in his beliefs with such a contrast from the beginning and the end parts.
I don't hold any certainty about any religion whatsoever (including Atheism, hah!). I just think it's ok that there is a part in life I just can't explain. A total mystery. I accept the state of doubt as valuable. Regarding christianity, I do not trust the history of how the Bible was brought up (pieces of books found here and there and assembled in Rome). The older Dead See Scroll recently found prove that those texts shifted with time, thus the Bible is in great part or all human creation.
Jack is so desperate to be taken as some sort of intellectual it's sad. He has had his arse handed to him by these intellectuals that he looks up to and now has to play it off as "cheap points in a game." I'm also shocked that Jack feels perfectly comfortable telling me why I don't like him. It's not that he loves his god....it's that he is absolutely the most arrogant person I have ever seen on YT. To make matters worse..after hearing Jack's "arguments"...he has NO reason to be arrogant.
No matter how hard you try you cant make the tail of a god.. much less "the top god" coming to Earth as a man and being circumcised and killed by Jews so that he could "make a way" for people to be "forgiven" who didn't do what they were told without proof sound rational.
That is why it is pointless to debate Christians to being with. Because their neutral position accepts bat shit crazy things to be plausible. They are by definition.. insane.
Often when I hear theists say that atheism is a religion, it doesn't seem to mean that they think atheists are just like theists. It seems to mean that they think atheists believe in a fairy tale world with no god while theists live in the real world where the evidence proves a god exists.
I had a conversation with a seemingly nice Christian woman. When I got up to leave, she made the whole "everyone will eventually get on their knees before Jesus" comment. Completely soiled my day.
I really don't see why Christians have to take such offense against people that don't believe in god...Or any other religion for that matter. It just doesn't make any sense that a christian doesn't have tolerance even tho thats what that "old world religion" Teaches! That and the fact that "god" Says "thou shalt not judge" Its all ludicrous.
Where you see a "witty, funny, charming" guy I see nothing but an arrogant Christian coward putting up a false persona with the pretense he actually cares what anyone else thinks. Of course I may be biased by the fact he banned me the very first time I asked him a tough question in his comments. I didn't swear, I didn't deliberately try to insult him , I just asked him a question he couldn't handle. I need no further proof to declare Jack an ignorant disingenuous buffoon.
the ad in the sidebar on this (Cristofer7's) video is for "Bold christian Clothing" and the ad on togetherforpeace's video is for extended stay hotels... thats weird.
I can just about see through your wonderful discussions the wonderful people that moulded your fearsome insightful humane intellect. You do them and yourself a great honour.
The word "hate" comes a bit too often in these religious discussions.
You can imagine how an atheist should live hating Christians, their brains in overload because they would have to live with them all over the place every moment of their lives.
Christians need to be hated and persecuted, otherwise it would prove Mr Jesus and the bible wrong.
Satan doesn't exist, so they create one by poking atheists with provocations and arrogance because they need to fulfill their bible prophecies.
It's the struggle, he's caught in a loop, sees how what he was taught is nonsensical, now that so many people pointed it out to him, and he has to resist reason because to him if he starts to go towards the things that make sense, his life will start to not make any sense (life without god is meaningless etc).
The frusration that Atheist feel does not come form the personal beliefs of theists per se. It come from what theists do with those beliefs. Wether it's in the classroom (creationism vs. evolution) or in the legilature (abortion, gay rights,etc.).
Must be something in the air. Maybe because it's easter weekend. But I've been approached by several christians this week, all of whom know I'm atheist, who expressed the same sentiment as Jack.
Of course I am not surprised that ppl forgot what I said in the beginning by the time they reached the end of the video. I am intrigued how split the responses have been. People have picked up various things that stuck out to them.
@TogetherForPeace - I literally am responding to the bit at the end (well, more middle to end). The beginning was nice, but boy did it end... well, in a way that inspired me to comment.
@Cristofer7 Each person had to determine for themselves where in the timeline of that video they felt they fell. My video was just a small picture of the way I feel towards the different sorts of people I've encountered on YouTube. The video was not meant to be a detailed description of all these people.
@TogetherForPeace - ha... it isn't that I felt I fell anywhere in your video. I was struck by what you actually said. When I hear a Christian say that they are hated because they love the lord, it strikes a nerve. Points and ideas will be missed in a conversation if you feel the person, who is talking to you, is coming from such a ridiculous place. It is also a way to imagine a person to be like a satan. I just didn't think you held this view regarding anyone.
@Cristofer7 He seemed a little heated in his video, n' possibly didn't mean it as badly as it was received. He's a guy who seems pretty rational, tries to drive out ignorance from both parties, works to find common ground with atheists, n' has to put up with a bunch of atheists trying to make their case for why religion is wrong instead of just respecting him as a person n' letting him be in regards to his faith. I'd imagine it would get pretty frustrating.
@Cristofer7 You want to turn this into, "wow, Jack I am just so surprised. I never thought you would be that sort of person." Those who wish to understand will be able to look past the use of strong words and the get the point. The past couple vids I've done have been addressed to all ppl both atheists and theists. I'm not terribly surprised by this all. I could have picked my words more carefully but oh well...I get pissed off by ppl's stupidity from time to time :)
@TogetherForPeace - brother, I am not trying to "turn this" into anything. I am responding to a collection of statements. You are the only Christian I am subbed to (that I am aware of), and the fact that you said certain things, gave me an opportunity to address certain things. What were the strong words? It was the ideas that were expressed that caught my attention. From the heart, the mouth speaks.
I brought you out of hiding :) Not sure why you associated yourself with the particular type of atheist I was talking about. Didn't I mention how I have been inspired by ppl who are my friends who are atheist???
I am the same way. I speak out of my own convictions. I am an atheist not be choice but by reason and rationality. I could only Pretend to be something else.
You make all manner of sense and I find your videos very grounding. It's very easy to get tangled in the minutia of arguments and semantics and to feel that it's ALL important to nail down just one more definition. Or to explain the differences between atheists, agnostics and anti-theists - a-gain - as if doing so will finally make all the difference. It's really quite simple. Do you believe in gods? No. Why not? I see no evidence to warrant such a belief.
His video didn't seem too out there, just seemed like a guy frustrated by all the atheists on youtube trying to argue with him n' prove their case. I only checked a few other videos of his, and yeah, he seems like a chill guy, but even on the video you're responding to people are still going at him about his faith in the comment section. The man seems like he is trying to bridge a gap, and people are shitting on him. His video wasn't towards all atheists, n he even included theists in the rant.
@ChristPuncher Jack claims to be aiming his critisisms at everyone, but this is a common tactic to try to pretend one is not biased. In reality, I believe Jack is speaking almost exclusively to atheists, and he would be happy as Larry if Youtube was full of people singing (Jesus') praises and arguing about how true Christianity was.
@KonijNx2 Everyone is biased to a degree, n' his degree seems rather small compared to most. Yes, his video is directed towards atheists, but only those who push their own agenda on him. He probably would like it if everyone was all about Jesus, just as we would like religion to be ousted all together.
@ChristPuncher Absolutely. There are religions out there that seriously do not bother me, and in fact add colour to the World. Christianity isn't one of them. I wouldn't like religion to be gone, I would like ignorance to be gone, but I'll take that point.
Deists have to acknowledge that their position is irrational because faith is irrational by definition. To quote one famous Deist, "Let him who would be Christian pluck out the eye of his reason."-Martin Luther. Apologists have always sought to address critics by adopting their language rather than their methods and using that language to make outrageous claims. E.g. I heard W L Craig assert in debate that the existence of evil in the world PROVED the existence of a benevolent, loving god.
I think there's probably some hidden background to Jack's video. It seemed to me that he was lashing out in response to some very recent incident in which he was psychologically injured, no doubt by some particular aTheist. His video certainly seemed way out of character, or at least the character that he normally displays. If, on the other hand, this is actually his true character then I am very disappointed.
@BusinessEdgeRadio I am sure Christopher would not hurt a fly. However, your comment is funny and I'm sure it has no bad intentions. Yes, men are on the whole more violent than women, large people might or might not have an advantage in a fight, and there are many black people in the US that have been hardened by growing up in bad neighborhoods. I just think it is kinda disturbing that "big black guy" automatically brings up connotations of violence and crime.
Feel sorry for Jack. He is the victim here, in truth! In childhood, he was brutally abused and at the same time encouraged to accept superstitious delusion by his psycho grandmother. Psychosexual abuse combined with supernatural indoctrination are the surest path to a lifelong sadomasochistic fixation. None of us could resist this tragic combination. As a result, his sexuality and personality are permanently f*kd, I believe.
That video (from TFP) showed me I shouldn't hit the "like" button before the end of a video. I hit "like" after the first couple of minutes, as it sounded like he was saying that people should be less hateful towards each other regardless of beliefs or non-beliefs...but then he threw out things like "I'll always be christian, you can't convince me otherwise" or whatever, and pretending we all define ourselves by non-belief...basically a typical anti-atheist video. Yeah. Anyway, you rule bro.
Ok I watched TFP's video and he basically said no amount of evidence would convince him there is no God. This position is beyond rigid and his angry, nasty video appear to be the rantings of a religious lunatic. Atheists may not believe in God, but that doesn't mean we are not open to evidence. If Jack is finding that people hate him, I don't think it is because he is religious, it is because he is positively hostile and hateful to atheists.
It is obviously just game. Jack plays to his pet audience as sort of a Christian crime fighter, who's super power is "not listening". That way can engage any argument, not hear the questions, not attempt an answer, walk away unchanged and say, "see, atheists have absolutely no affect one me", at which point all of his groupies pat him on the back for surviving another sortie across enemy lines.
Nice to see a video from you again Cristofer7. I find it interesting you often word familiar things in a way I haven't thought about before.
Of course when I saw the title was about Jack, my first thought was of course that he'd gone for the "what has atheism got to offer" schpiel yet again.
"I believe in an omnipotent, omniscient, omnibenevolent God. He made us and then saddled us with rules 100% of us find impossible to follow. We *would* get burned for all eternity for this failure, but he sacrificed himself to himself to create a loophole exclusively for people who believe in the loophole. Oh, yeah... and he loves you."
Yep TFP is frustrating, he plays the semantics card, the hell card, the atheist has faith card or the atheists really believe card. To me he has committed to an idea and only seeks to support that idea, to the detriment of being open to any information if it contradicts his belief. He is a person with a great deal of rigidity, imo. For me it is not very appealing to talk to someone who thinks you are going to burn in hell.
@philhellenes yes it was a great observation. They say things like "It takes more faith to believe that the universe just happened". Yet faith is, apparently, something virtuous and also is not, apparently, merely belief without evidence. There again is that divide between what they will tell themselves and what they really believe, as you talked about in one of your vids.
C'mon, why can't we talking about skiing? Sure we'll burn in Hell for all eternity according to this Jack fellow, but who doesn't like a chat about skiing? :P
"This isn't a game. I'm not trying to play a game. I'm simply speaking my thoughts."
Yes, exactly.
Also, "I don't hate you."
Yup, absolutely!
What amazes me on YT is that everyone is entitled to his or her opinion UNTIL s/he disagrees with someone's core belief. Then people often treat the dissenter as if s/he had lost his or her humanity.
"We get comfortable with groups and we don't think objectively...myself included"

I remember why I subbed :)
And i remember why I was very sad when he stopped making videos

Ok I watched TFP's video and he basically said no amount of evidence would convince him there is no God. This position is beyond rigid and his angry, nasty video appear to be the rantings of a religious lunatic. Atheists may not believe in God, but that doesn't mean we are not open to evidence. If Jack is finding that people hate him, I don't think it is because he is religious, it is because he is positively hostile and hateful to atheists.

Man I wish you'd make more videos, always good stuff.

Every time I watch a new video by you, I sort of re-realize that you're my favorite atheist conversationizer on the tube.
You're just so damn real.
Not sure if I've ever commented my appreciation before, but I do so now.

It's not an either or situation - one can be quite serious and still play at ones arguments:

i find it interesting that the "strongest" theist is the best liar.
gratex 10 months ago

"I don't buy it. What's your evidence?"
"Oh, come on man! You're just scoring points!"

I have the same feeling about jack's videos...from time to time he puts out useless rants...

VERY good (and I think revealing) point about "insulting atheists by comparing them to theists".
philhellenes 10 months ago
@philhellenes yes it was a great observation. They say things like "It takes more faith to believe that the universe just happened". Yet faith is, apparently, something virtuous and also is not, apparently, merely belief without evidence. There again is that divide between what they will tell themselves and what they really believe, as you talked about in one of your vids.

Another great point!
Your videos are an oasis for me. Thanks!
