  • what about the internet from when it was first created- 1991?

  • I seem to recall this here information superhighway being in color at least :P

  • I remember this; what I wanna know is how it looked in the 80s

  • chuck norris had 1gbp/s internet and playing mw2 on his windows 95

  • @meezergurl Ya I know I didn't know what I was thinking when I typed that comment..

  • February 11th 1998 , Ad for trading NASDAQ shares.history right there.NASDAQ still hasn't reached the heights it did back in the late 90s before the bubble popped.

  • I had color.

  • Damn... you made me remember how I am one of firsts guys online... I've seen all that crap live and... for fuck sake it is awesome to see it again lol.

  • so much ads on that altavista website

  • LOL, I remember around 1997/98 having to deal with Dial Up, what a pain in the arse. Now I can't even imagine navigating the Internet at a speed of less than 2 megas.

  • Man I miss those days!

  • There were colored websites in the 90's? A few were in color

  • @jackineedo of course there were colour websites - Ebay was started in 1995 and it certainly is in colour. I can't recall going to any black and white sites in the late 90s - it was all coloured.

  • I want my offline life back please thanks!

  • OMG I REMEMBER THAT SOUND

  • Everything was black and white back then?

  • @roylueftner

    No,Its just an Effect.

For Fun: I have used modems here in Brazil When i loged to sites into 2004. And the sites where like that, although we had Google, but very primitive.

  • @roylueftner No, of course not. All the websites where in colour. The monitor was black and white.

  • Illuminati at 00:20

  • Commercial websites began in 1995 and made the world what it is today. Internet is often necessary today for anything.

  • hotbot.com was the shit

  • I got internet around 1994, freshman year of college. I remember that everybody was learning HTML to have their own webpages and searching for something could just as easily bring up a personal page as a professional one.

  • Yahoo's page looks exactly the same as it does now...

  • I think the internet was better back then. NO ADS

  • @DannySmith300 You think! Twenty minutes to load a page, if you could find it and if your connection did not drop out; it often did.

I was on the internet from 1981 and it was a chore.

    Mosaic improved things.

But one thing never changes, it was a great way to pick up girls back then as well. They just tended to be a little older and a lot wealthier.

  • @Huttate1 Older? ew

  • @DannySmith300 Yep! The kids didn't start infesting the net until the W W W came along. Back then it was generally over 30's.

  • @DannySmith300 And no /b/, no Anonymous, no groups that dominated internet culture and caused hell for everyone :D

  • @DannySmith300 Yes, most popular pages haved one ore two animated or static banners and others not sigle one ad. There was not so many people with low IQ and moral on the net so web pages was much better (no ads, no click this, click that, unlogical menus and other unlogical stuff like Facebook LIKE button...) There was also bad things... everything was extremly slow, there was no such amount of informations like now (mostly basics about everything except computers), unstable connections...

  • @DannySmith300 Huh? Nearly everyone of those screens showed an ad, The internet is better now as we have options to remove Ads.

  • @DannySmith300 Agrreed man & that 56K always got you up in the morrning.

  • Oh, the good old days, when Men where Men, Woman men, anc children cops..

  • Those were the better days, with NO ads, spam or facebook.

  • @Snowwie88 No facebook.? Are you crazy.?

  • @Agardion Adobe Flash wasn't even introduced back then, Youtube depends on that platform. Anyway in that time Yahoo search web engine was popular.

  • It's amazing how far it's came

  • @BraderoReleasing To be for real what has changed? Yahoo doesnt look much different today.

  • @BraderoReleasing Yahoo looks different in my opinion, but like I said it's my opinion.

  • Oh, the naive days.

  • It makes me sad that I wasn't around for this ;___;

  • You forgot to mention all the porn that took up 99% of the Internet then

  • Hi-Fi Music archive LOL

  • Those days where boring

  • i see they have the internet on computers now..

  • Who can remeber pron from 1994?

  • alta vista lycos? hahaha

  • whats a link?

  • wow internet looks boring back then compare to now. Also what on earth was "trailor park"? lol

  • hahaha this is like the stone age of the internet

  • i dont think any thing from 1994 would be archived on archive.

  • i thought in the 90's the internet was 99% porn. I feel these examples are biased.

  • YAHOOLIGANS FUCK YEAH

  • back in the day...

  • RIP DejaNews(dot)com

  • its world wide web internet explore v0.1 beta

  • Why is this all in black and white?

  • How can show the net as it was in the 90's and leave out geocities?

  • oh god do I remember that login.... the sweet sweet sound of 56kbps... and don't forget family members fucking up your downloads to use the phone.

  • @DankTendencies Ahh the good old days.

  • @DankTendencies To a modern day brat: Whats a kbps?

  • @rerundadog Kilobits Per Second.

  • @OmegaWolf747

Oh my no,that was not until the future! It was bps.

  • @RyogaXvX Back in the 80s, yeah. Kbps came along circa 1994, I think.

  • I didn't know the internet was black and white back then. I always imagined it with color, but crappier than what we have today.

  • those are document where is the internet??

  • the internet before the cancer

  • The internet was last forever!

  • we've come along way in so short of time.

  • @zztopis2 No, we haven't. We've just speed and polished things up.

  • @1waitandbleed1

well imagine what it will be like in the 2090s ?

  • @zztopis2 Everything will be in video format or it'll be a picture. No more text.. You'll type in pictures.

and if it's too flashy I'll probably quit using the internet or I'll make an old fashion forum or I'd stick to IRC.

  • wow and i thought the plan was free porn for everyone

  • I barely used the internet in the 90's, it was so boring, I just played pc games.

  • i remember my first experience with the internet, i was 15, it was with this trial aol disk.

i was young with some cash because i worked part time. so i had my first visa card also. i tried it out and i was hooked. Also - this was when they had aol proggies. I was curious how those worked.

soon i was hanging out in vbhelp chat rooms and writing my own aol progs.

I still thank dos32/steve for enlighten my knowledge of win api.

  • back when a 3Mb 5-10 second porn video clip the size of a first class postage stamp on your screen and took 5-10 minutes to download was considered absolutely amazing.

  • I just love the dial up sound. Think I might make that into a ringtone for my phone :)

  • Apple's site was better back then. Easier to navigate, not so pretentious and overstyled.

  • First porn on the internet?

  • whats an google?

  • what the fuck is the internet?

  • @captaingorgonzola

The internet is a communications tool, used the world over where people can come together and bitch about movies and share pornography with one another.

  • @LondonOntGuy

Haha, about time someone got my jay and silent bob reference

  • @captaingorgonzola its in the innerlining of your swimsuit

  • @captaingorgonzola Apparently and i quote "the Internet is not something that you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes. And if you don't understand, those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and it's going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts of material."

  • @captaingorgonzola your mum is the internet

  • @captaingorgonzola its a large series of networks inside networks.

    or, a series of tubes.

  • Why was web design so... ugly back then?

  • @algorithmae

what do you mean? its still looks like crap today

  • Ah, the Internet powerhouses of a bygone era... AOL, NSCA, Netscape, IE5. How times hav changed.

  • The Internet, Word Wide Web 1994-1998

    Goodnight sweet prince.

  • IUMA was my first website!!

  • there was online purchasing in '94 amazon.com in '94?!?!?!?!?

    see at 1:02

  • @pasrvrb I remember when Amazon came out. It was JUST books and it was just for students/schools back then, as I recall.

  • Also Google did not appear till 1998. LOL

  • @UltimatePineapple Internet porn did not come about till at least 1996 or 98 I believe. maybe 97. I saw an show on G4 once talk about internet porn history, the first live cam whores cam was only 3 FPS. LOLOLOL I think that was in 1996 or 1997. LOLOLOL

  • @wulfshelmut internet porn was around in the 80's when the only way to transfer information was a pulse tone modem, a telephone and lots of patience.

  • @livebabylive15 I mean sites. Not people sending porn pics. Actual porn sites.

  • Here's a question:

What do you think, of how many Terrabytes does the Internet consist?

  • Darn! I was hoping you had the Microsoft Bus website. That was considered really cool back then...

  • @UltimatePineapple Looking at the naked ladies was better than you may think. The images would load so slowly it was like a tease show. I miss them days.

  • These look like hellish times, it's a good thing I didn't get Internet til I was like 13... Back when myspace first started nd was the coolest fuckin thing ever

  • check out the Internet Archive The Wayback Machine.

  • I kind of wish we could go back to the way things looked back then, yet still have a lot of the capabilities we have today.

You look at site design today--sure, a lot of sites have all the bells & whistles, and look really modern and that--but as far as content and even usability--they're crap!

My favorite sites these days when I'm surfing are the ones that have that simple old school warm feeling to them and have the content that I want.

  • (cont) I even like searching sometimes for old sites that haven't been *touched* for about ten years--there are still some out there--just to check out the source code.

I've been working off and on over the years on building my own website, and I know that when I get it finally completed it's going to have some old school elements in there.

  • I can't believe how many of those pages i remember seeing back in the day. We first got internet in 1994 with AOL 1.7!

I was literally the only kid in my neighborhood to have internet for the first few years until it became more widespread. I never thought it would become the necessity it has today but truth be told if it came between keeping internet or cable TV, I'd drop my TV before the net any day

  • i rembeber that sound :D

  • Facebook is still number one according to google statistics 2009=)

  • i first tried the internet in 2003 lol fuck yeah!

  • I first got the internet at home in 1999. I was only allowed half an hour a day on it! Cost something like 50 pence per minute!

  • man i miss the 90's those where the days

    everything was open :P

  • wow line breaks, default silver backgrounds, table based layout and ussage of table borders, and frames, image maps. wow.

  • i remember using the internet back in the late 90's back in elm to look up information about polar bears!! very nice seeing this it was cool

  • Once again I am saddened to be born in 1995.Internet was booming at that time. But no Google : )

  • @TrandomnesstwO I was born in 1981. So i got to witness not only the explosion of the PC. But the subsequent explosion of the internet (and then the infamous dot com bubble). I remember when you were considered cool if you had the internet.

  • 8-bit porn, yay! jk

  • I so remember that sound of a modem connecting. It is forever logged (on) to the back of my head.

  • Some time in early 1993 one of my university friends showed me NCSA Mosaic. My first thought was "damn, Gopher is dead!"

I've been working with web tech ever since, but I have a feeling I'll always have a bit of nostalgia for those early static web pages.

  • was the porn still good?

  • @panictactics it was better. "pixlier"

  • I can't belive that this was once the most hightech thing in the world

  • The internet back then look like the internet one one of those regular cell phones (not smartphones) It looks even worse than the mobile web but hey, atleast the internet was much safer then since there weren't much hackers around then

  • yep thats exactly what ive been thinking all along and you are the only other person that has shown it

  • i got my first 486 in 2003

  • why didnt i think of facebook back then?!? damit!!!

  • @TheCowboy277 Geocities was the Facebook of those days ;)

  • @TheCowboy277

*jumps in my delorean time machine*

  • @TheCowboy277

you were to busy try to get laid xP

  • @TheCowboy277: Well If I ever invent a time machine we are going to go to the bank get all are money made before 2003 and give it all to mark zuckerburg! :D

  • I'm sorry, but I miss the magic of the first days of internet. Internet is just not as special as it used to be.

  • I used to do searches with HotBot. Anyone remember that?

  • omg to many old horrible memories make em stop i could never og back to that shitty internet and computersand i remember all that and i was just born in 1995 lol the internet was still like shit in the 1999-2004 for me it was jsut about the equivilent to this lol

  • @fartknockerfartknock

    No, you don't remember this.

This video is for people who were on the Internet before you were born.

  • shut up my internet was like this and you know what its none of your biz and the things i say dont affect you so meh.

  • I remember that old Yahoo page. My 6th grade math teacher-God bless her-was the one who told me about the Internet in '95 or '96. She'd let me come in her room during lunch to get on one of the Power Macs she had in there. There was also this lady who lived near me who'd let me get on her AOL account. I remember talking about Princess Di's crash in a chat room.

  • omg looking at the yahoo page brings back so many memories, i still remember the first thing i searched for when i first ever when on the internet in grade7> beavis and butthead, they had a bunch of sites to lol

  • @Jaycalabria You know, that's the first memory I have of being on the internet too. Beavis and Butthead!

  • GOOD GOD look at the Amazon, White House, and Apple pages!

lol, even with how simple they are I bet they took forever to load.

  • Wow, i wish I could make web pages that well

  • Check out the illuminati symbolism on 0:21

  • That dial-up sound at the end brought on a ave of nostalgia.

  • There are still BBS's you can dial up and those 56K modems ZOOM on those.

As for these early web pages, what can I say? Less is more sometimes.

  • ah the sound of 59k modem brings back memories :)

  • I think you mean 56k modem. :-p

  • yeah 56k xD

  • Needs music, but good screenshots.

  • I wonder how YouTube would look like... LOL

  • I would probably leave before it would finish loading...

  • LOL you can actually see these old web sites through this website: The Internet Archive, just type the URL and thats it, you will be able to see the site how it looked the first time it came online! Its really cool!! im glad they have this! i can always go back in time, the web that is:)

  • TRUE

  • The internet of today is obviously faster than the 90's, but too bad that nowadays, we kept getting pop ups and shit that wanted to sell us crap like viagra or fake pills that will make our life better or some shit!!!! the 90's internet never really had those types of things happen like the internet of today!!!

  • Use a popup blocker, goddamnit

  • So many advancements; broadband, Twitter, YouTube, and many other things that have made the Internet the glorifying network of today. But, one trait that we have given up, and will never get back, is the close-knit sense of community. The Internet will never truly be the same.
