The concept of Aikido is not to inflict damage, but to use the opponent's momentum against them. It's specialty is to STOP attacks, and to redirect them. Note that each martial art is weaker than another one, no matter how you look at it.
Aikido is useless in real combat or self defense. Most of the techniques rely on over committing and the opponent grabbing and holding your hand tight.
Aikido will never work on a more aggressive martial art.
@CitizenOfUtube I think your lack of knowledge with regard to martial arts is clear. Every art has a specialization. I look at Akido as the ultimate nonimpact art for a person NOT wanting to go to ground. In my opinion Akido is properly mated to a Japanese sword art or a Philippino weapons art like Escrima, where on each hip you carry a knife. You then take the opponent(s)down and then finish them as time permits one at a time. Akido buys time to draw your weapon. Striking slows you down.
@CitizenOfUtube hehehe... I take it you've never been in hand to hand combat wirth 4 to 5 people at once. Hahahahah, lots of fun, but striking slows you down my friend, and the wrestler, Brazilian Jujitsu or Judo artists that goes to ground with 10 heels that can tear your scalp off is a goner. What you see here is the demo of passing to the next target to buy time.
@Shadowcaster316 i agree i have been studying for a year now and i am in a police foundations course and am looking for all the advice and help to get in the force where are you a police officer?
i use to take krav maga but it got to demanding in travel time so im going try ether hapkido or Akido ive done tae kwon do before and fucking hated it
Joeyal123, I know its been 6 months now. but perhaps Hapkido will be good to try out. There a lil more agressive but what ever work for is alway good too.
One, I think it is spelled Aikido. If that is the case there seems to be a lot of Aikido Masters in the comments who are spelling it wrong on their Dojos.
Two, any one looks good when a bunch of guys are running at them with a hand out-streched
Akido is ment for non martial artist fighters. It is famous amongst police forces. But I have seen several Akido masters get nocked the blank out by MMA fighters. Not to say I dont have the upmost respect for Akido practitioners.
Ok, first and formost, yes this is a good demo of Akido and i respect that, but let me say one thing, unless someone puled out a gun and shot the dude that was 'winning', there was no way he could loose, Akido is so defensive that only guns can really stop it, even weapons such as Katana and Nunchuka can be used against the weilder.
People might disagree because its wrong. The core martial art that Aikido is based up is Daitō-ryū aiki-jūjutsu, which Osensei studied directly with Takeda Sokaku.
I don't disagre with that. I agree that it is based on Daito Ryu. I shouldn't have used the word originated. I'll attempt to explain better. During WWII, Ueshiba was in China, and according to a couple of his students, they believe he studied Ba Gua while in China. The foot work and energy is amazingly similar. I'm not trying to say this is for sure fact, I appreciate both styles.
I am blown away !! Segal is the truth!

Remember this a lot of learning, and many years. Not over a day. First you must learn to walk and then go on next movement. This is grant.

Any martial art is better than Aikido. For example, Hapkido, Kenpo, Kung Fu, etc. etc.

@CitizenOfUtube Speaking as cop, Akido is a great martial art and I have studied it. A lot of Akidio techniques are employed in Academy training.

Really, tell me what Akido master has entered a MMA event. I ask because I can't think of one that has as it is contrary to their philosophy.

mma is only another way of ruining the art in martial art.

A lot of people do not know or may disagree, but Akido originated from the falcon style of Bagua from China.
