I think overall mine has been very reliable considering it's a German luxo. Under warranty I had the cam shafts replaced due to a bad group going out from the factory. I also had the rack-n-pinion replaced. Other than that, the only things I've replaced since it went out of warranty were one window regulator and the MAF. Just put new rear brakes on at 106K. And one hose of the condenser went out but that was only 60 bucks. Just find a good independent shop and you'll be fine.
Sounds pretty wicked man! I've got an 01 myself, just turned 91K miles on it today. I had the secondary cats removed and an x-pipe put on about 3 months ago. I LOVE the sound now! It's way too quiet stock. I don't want it as loud as the newer AMGs but I want it to "sound" like it has a V8 under the hood.
