It really is difficult to say something is overrated since there are just as many opinions as there are people. Personally, the only anime/manga that many adore yet I loathe is Bleach. Its story is banal, the characters are annoying and they are similar in terms of facial aesthetics, the fights are boring and the art style is so bad that it's hard to tell if Ichigo is inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber or if his Getsuga Tenshou is covering him.
Elfen lied is awsome... but you really have to look maturely at it...
some even say Madoka is overrated ! OMG ... maybe alittle.. .but most of those people are just people who arent up to the psychological level of deepness and symbolism madoka has to offer ! ... just pisses me off -.-'
One Piece is a good anime, but the manga is not nice to read, as many action plots are. An anime that is very much over rated for me is D~Gray Man, now just to be sure, the anime. The Manga for D~Gray Man in my humble opinion is brilliant! Another over rated title for me is Vampire Knight. I wasn't taken in by the Manga, neither by the anime. Cowboy Bebob was a bit overrated, I think..... It's difficult, there are so many titles where you think the anime yep & manga no and vice versa.... well
I'm a BIG fan of Naruto> I watched it since it first aired on Toonami when I was 6. Great show but the filler is bothersome. Lately the animation has gotten sloppy at times which ticks me off. It IS overrated though. Half the fanbase is like "This show was made by God himself!!!" I just shake my head in shame.Good anime not THAT good. Bleach is pretty cool, the fight scenes are the good part. Inuyasha's fun, Kagome's a bitch though. Oh well that's my opinion.
The big 3 of course are most overrated, one piece isnt funny, bleach is getting retarded; naruto used to be ok but now its not...elfen lied isnt too overrated but i didnt like it personally..i like haruhi suzumiya the best out of all the overrated stuff. Lucky star is cute but boring
Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is probably one of the most overrated anime of all time. Sure it didn't really click to me, but it definitely split viewers into zealous worshipers and haters.
It think all of these animes are just way to overrated BTW I have seen all of them and these are my opinions: K-ON generally alright but needs more music and less cake eating, luck star get rid of the first few episodes and its halfway decent , FMA its good but got a little repetitive mid way through, High school of the dead worst piece of shit anime ever its shouldnt even be considered a fucking zombie anime and Elfen Lied (its good but the incest, voice acting and characters were annoying
One Piece.Naruto, and Bleach are good shows especially if you take out the fillers...but these crazy maniacal fans really kill the series and make a lot of other people hate and not want to watch them.All I can say is if you got quite of bit of free time on your hands(especially for One Piece and Naruto) then check them out and skip the fillers,makes them all the more enjoyable.Also Elfen Lied overrated SAY WHAT!!!!!!!!! Besides Naruto, Bleach and One Piece, I'd say Love Hina is up there. It's just dull in my opinion and I don't understand why so many people look at it favorably. Haruhi is decent to me, but some people view it as a gift from God and it's clearly not that. I wouldn't consider Cowboy Bebop and Trigun to be overrated at all. Those 2 are in my top favorites and they deserve all the praise they can get.
Aww bleach and Naruto r cool, one piece too.. but Haruhi Suzumiya IS overrated in my opinion, Chibi Vampire is - well i like the character development but I guess the plots okay, it's Inbetween
in conclusion i would say that one piece is forced with no choice to be overrated because of its epicness and people don't realize that because they probably cant relate to this anime or they're just haters to the core. one piece teaches us to do whatever we please. the main characters are basically wanted criminals by the world government but they dont care as long as they get to continue to realize their adventure and dreams together. AGAIN THIS IS JUST MY OPINION, I'M NOT HATIN OR ANYTHING~
considering the "overrated" animes such as naruto bleach and one piece, i think one piece comes out on top. kubo failed on the aizen saga of bleach (should of just ended bleach right there) and naruto seems a little bit rushed. bleach and naruto with ridiculous fillers! i mean filles that take 100 or more episodes of our lives. considering one piece is supposedly overrated it has very little. well thats just my opinion.
one piece is generally directed for the older age groups. kids young as 15 or younger probably wont be more or less be interested in this anime. teens these days especially in the U.S. are more interested in teen angst/drama hence twilight. it is sometimes difficult to understand the adult emotions and situations taht one piece has in its story.but for us who grew up with it since 1999, we can appreciate and love this anime more than the younger generation. since we practically grew up with it.
some peopel might say that with over 500 episodes and the series far from ending, will we get bored? absolutely not! one piece is like drugs. you take some, then you take more and more and then at the end you dont realize that you've took more than you could count for in such a short period of time. do the math 500 episodes-20 minutes long for each episodes and still continuing.
back to the dark and deep parts of one piece. it really teases ur curiosity into what this series is leading to. of course the whole plot revolves around luffy and his crew. each of them wanting to achieve their dream as for luffy, he wants to become pirate king. but there is more to the story than that. thought the anime is already at over 500 episodes we still don't know even 50 percent of this whole storyline!
though its genre states comedy in one piece there are numerous cases in which it can get serious and dark in this anime. most people question to see one piece because of how its illustrated. it has a very unique illustration which honestly does take some time to get used to. when i first saw it i thought it was utter crap but boy i was wrong. you could say that the illustration has more of a westernized feel to it. which puts some relief for the asian readers since most manga is asian influenced
the story line of onepiece is very humorous though some people will say that it "tries to hard" to be funny, i have to tell you... thats the point. i can bet you that whoever said that it wasnt funny either is hater or just a seriously anti social and lacks in the brain to process the humor that the anime is trying to provide you. (i will tell you this again, this is a japanese anime...with japanese humor so its understandable that most of you might not get it)
the great thing about this anime is that there is practically no serious love plot in this anime whatsoever...there are some but so trivial to the storyline. this is an anime that focuses on freedom, adventure, and epicness!
usually the straw hat pirates are mostly are on the losing side of the fight. seemingly impossible scenarios and enemies, with their teamwork, determination, and ingenuity they overcome the impossible. often most of them are already almost beaten up during the fights (or already are) but you cant help the fact that you want to root for them and believe taht somehow they can win even in the most impossible situations.
and it isnt like other overrated anime's which gives the main character crazy ass strong powers off the bat.(ichigo and his bankai which he achieved in 3 days or so, though it normally takes years to master and naruto with his demon fox powers)Though luffy does seem really strong in the beginning, as the series goes along a little bit deeper you can see that this is not a fact. (proof is in the one piece chapter 589)
not only luffy but other characters as well as his nakamas (friend/crew) have their own diverse personality (and by diverse i mean EXTREMELY diverse) to the storyline as well. Each of them joining luffy on the quest for their own dreams. And i have to say that the One Piece world is like which you've never dreamed before. Its so diverse, unpredictable, and fun to visit. you could say that the one piece world is like alice in wonderland on crack except that its for pirates and marines. lol
how is one piece overrated!? i could understand the rants on bleach and naruto, but one piece is just pure genius! the characters, dialogue, plot, humor, adventure, action, supernatural, EPICNESS, is all in one piece. The main character Monkey D. Luffy is probably the most liked characters you will ever meet in any anime just due to the fact of is personality. it almost makes you feel like you want to go on adventures with him.

For me, One Piece is the most overrated anime. It's so, so cheesy that I could make mac'n cheese out of it. It tries to be funny but fails miserably every time. I don't see why people actually think it has good humor.

Most all of them are flat out bad to me. I only really like the style. Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Basilisk, that Hatsune thing, Haruhi, Gundam, Inuyasha, Elfen Leid, Love Hina and a lot of others, I only thought FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, Champloo, and Full Metal Alchemist were really good.

Most of those animes aren't really overrated. They deserve most of that hype. Bleach has an extremely intriguing plot, and so does Naruto. It's also exciting and keeps you interested. It's probably one of my favorite animes, and I've watched hundreds.

Most of those amines I've never heard of but I think trigun was pretty boring as well as naruto. One piece is OKAY, but not worth all the hype. I actually really like bleach, and inuyasha though.
Well I liked the original naruto on cartoon network but it started getting boring when sasuke was gone. He is not necessarily my fav character but it just became filler episodes. For some strange reason I get this feeling that the character naruto is like John Cena and Cena is also overexposed.
one piece, naruto and bleach (and all the other famous long animes/manga) are in my opinion not overrated, they can't be because they are so long and over time you start knowing these characters. unlike normal shorter animes where you see a character only for about 12 episodes or something like that. overrated for me are cowboy bebop and black rock shooter, they're good but nothing special
@humanLucifer I do generally agree with you about the long animes however I do feel Bleach is overrated. My opinion the series just went no where. I really liked the sole society arc, I thought it was one of the best shonen arcs I saw, but then after that the show just went down hill. The fights got repetitive, they introduced a bunch or really annoying characters, they don't kill anyone off, and the show completely loss track of its plot. Just my opinion though.
@OBENsoccer11 i quit watching the bleach anime when it was at ep210, after that i read the manga and i still read every new chapter. the story isn't that repetitive, especially now when you don't know where the story is going. but what really keeps me reading bleach is the fact that ist drawn quite different from one piece or naruto, and i like that. (well, i also read the new chapters of naruto, one piece an a bunch of other manga^^)
Hmm the only one i can think as overrated is Dragon ball but the better word for it is over-used.

Bleach:great animation but story material the author gives is......well not good,but has some good filler wich sometimes is better then main story.
Naruto:Lately for me it seems most people dont like too watch it(so i cant say is overrated) because of fillers and some odd animation for serious moments,i still watch it but only because of some characters and voice acting.
Bleach is overrated its still good the only problem is that its killed by all the filler and it taking itself so seriously to the point that all the comic relief is gone. I've always thought Deathnote was overrated
Yeah Elfen Lied is waaaay overrated. It relies on the shock factor to keep you watching and pretty much explored everything I find morally wrong. People say the show is very artistic. I say it's very sadistic and perverted. Anyway, clicked the ad for you ;)
The Naruto anime. Just the anime because the manga is pretty solid. One word filler. Bebop is good, elfen lied is somewhat overrated anime wise just because if you read the manga, you know the anime didn't touch the surface of what goes down in the story. I like Bleach but both anime and manga-wise it has been falling by the wayside due to short, slow story progression. I mean its most recent arc in the manga felt like one of their anime filler arcs if that makes sense.
I don't think Naruto is overated, its one of the best animes ive ever seen, but they do have a lot of fillers but they kinda stay on top of what's actually goin throughout the series. I love bleach (again one of the best animes I've ever seen) but they dont have to have fillers right in whatever arc there in, it kinda interrupts whats goin on
Have you read/watched One Piece? if not give it a try as it is definately the best shonen manga since Dragonball. The anime is just as good, my only complaint is the number of episodes, but at least there is not much FILLER, only extended scenes within canon.
One piece is great, if it's the funimation version. I'd say that chobits is a bit overrated, but that's just my opinion. The Bleach anime is overrated, but the manga is awesome. Naruto isn't my favorite, but Naruto Shippuden is better.

Inuyasha (while everyone loves Miroku and Sango, you only really need to watch like 4 episodes to get the story)
I believe that short anime are good, anything more than 28 is a stretch. The only exceptions (so far) that I can think of are Fullmetal Alchemist and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
I say One Piece is not overrated. It's among the small handful of animes that I have really enjoyed and will always remember as a great show. It has literally changed my life in a good way and if you call such a powerful anime overrated then to hell with you! I can see the problems with it though, it is starting to become just another generic anime and it is terribly long but it has a deep value for me and I've enjoyed literally every minute of the currently aired 530 episodes.
Naruto and Bleach are the most overrated in my opinion. Even people who aren't regular watchers of anime would say Bleach or Naruto is the best ever.Though I think it all comes down to opinion in the end.The only animes I give a complete 10/10 are Cowboy Bebop,FLCL,S-cry-ed,Spirited Away,Princess Mononoke, and Samurai Champloo. The only reason I gave Scryed that rating was because I greatly enjoyed it and can watch anytime but I know it doesn't deserve it.

@anipaclypse angel beats im my honest opinion was garbage, it was like 80 % filler, 20 % plot. the promos for angel beats made it look so much better than it actually is. i remember i was so excited back in 2010 when i saw the promos for angel beats thinking this anime is going to be fucking amazing and was let down. ill give angel beats one thing though it had an amazing 3 episode. episode 3 just blew my mind. angel beats had great potential but ruined by all the filler.
6th) trigun may be overrated but thats partially because vash was a standalone character and no other character was even as liked as vash also very bad animation each gun made the same noise from a shotgun to a pistol
7th) cowboy bebop it deserves its attention as most people would agree that its a great starting point for people who never watched anime
8th) elfen lied has probably one of the best concepts for an anime but not executed properly
@anipaclypse One piece is a light hearted action series. when they are not fighting, they have fun. When there's a problem, they beat the shit outta the bad guys. A bit like dragonball Z. Just that the plot is 100 times more complex and there are less nonsensical powerups.

Anyway, I don't think a lot of the anime I've seen is overrated but the ones that do come to mind are The Melencholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (tried to be different which is cool but didn't work for me due to it being annoying and confusing) and Bleach (tried the first 20 episodes and it's not bad but the whole thing doesn't feel that special and the pacing is awful).
Elfen Lied has such a memorably violent opening episode and then it falls completely. In fact episode 1 is so memorable that viewers seem to forget how bad it is after that.
Death Note has an interesting premise and decent story for the first half of the series but then gets convoluted and forced. Characterisation is so disappointing, even Light is!
Though Cowboy Bebop deserves it's plaudits.

Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach are NOT overrated. The reason I don't consider them overrated is because of the unnecessary amount of hate they get. I also disagree with Cowboy Bebop. Like Kitty said, it DEFINITELY deserves all of the praise it gets.

You should do a video on underrated animes next. But as for what I think is overrated, Naruto and Bleach are definitely high on my list. They have a lot of good elements, like the massive variety of characters and even powers, but sadly they both fall into the common pitfalls of shonen manga. Like overly long fight scenes, confusing levels of powers/ ass-pull powers, and tons of filler.
Your list is 1/3 right. Anyway I say the first fullmetal alchemist tv series (it hypt a dark violent atmoshere without the violence until the last fewepisodes then I was left feeling empty), Witch Hunter Robin (when it was hypt it was suppost to be what hellsing is but it was too slow), Final Fantasy 7: AC (I was expecting something more than a 'look at me' movie), Gurren Lagen (Its a great show, just too paraded upon), and Bleach (Just watch Rurouni Kenshin, Ghost Sweeper Mikami, Kekkaishi).
I know a lot of people are going to flame me for this, but I found Elfen Lied to be overrated. It had a lot of potential, but it ended being a cheesy melodrama. It brings up a lot thought-provoking themes, but it doesn't explore any of them. Instead, they're just used to excuse all the gory violence and nudity in the show. It's not a horrible series, but it's very overrated.
But Cowboy Bebop overrated? Oh, Hell naw! Cowboy Bebop is and will always be the shit!

Trigun and Cowboy bebop are popular shows, but are not overrated (in my opinion). I say this because overrated is when a manga or anime is talked about way to much or gets way to much praise for what it is. Not if a ton of people enjoy the series. In my opinion trigun and cowboy bebop don't get talked about enough! It's all about the new series or the big 3.
Well if I were to pick an UNDERrated anime, I think Dragonball GT would be worth pointing out as an underrated mainstream series. Almost all of its flaws people bash the series for were already present by the Buu saga of DBZ, including plenty of plot holes, inconsistent power levels, an almost entirely useless cast, etc.. What GT did have were some creative story ideas and great villain designs, most of which were handled by Akira himself. The plot too was watched over by him.
@Zero829 A lot of fans didn't like the Buu Saga either and for good reasons, it served little purpose. The reason GT is hated because GT took flaws that people were willing to forgive in the Buu Saga were taken to the extremes.
Naruto is definitely overrated but I still watch the weekly episodes seeing as I've gone this far with it. In my opinion I think pretty much all shonen anime are overrated.
I think there are genuinely good animes that get talked up so much that it actually disappoints you when you watch it. Sometimes its refreshing to discover something good on your own.
NARUTO! This should not be as popular as it is. Sure, it's funny and serious at times, but there are far better. And, I'm just going to put out, (in shoujo genre) Ouran High School Host Club. I mean, it's amusing however I feel like the characters are recycled. It just didn't strike me as "amazing". And I agree with Elfen Lied. I like many different types of anime, but I never really got into it. I DO however like Death Note (sub) and Sailor Moon... Overrated? Sure... Sue me :)

i wouldn't say bleach and naruto are overrated because their shonen series and by their NATURE they may be hugely popular. I think mobile suit gundam is overrated though.
I love all anime but there are a few popular anime that disappointed me greatly these include Bleach,Hitman Reborn,and Naruto and i say this because these anime's greatly disappoint me it's like these genius plot and then all of a sudden they let a 3 year old call the shots Naruto is probably the opposite way i'm actually starting to enjoy it more "Believe it". there are a few more anime that i could touch on but my love for anime never changes even though alot of them are not very good.
Gossick, Naruto, K-on, korewa zombie desu ka, the whole gundam realm, pokemon jajajaja, mmm saint seiya, bleach, fairy tail, yu gi oh, i think Kanon is over rated too. mmm i think elfen lied is not over rated... the anime that i felt was massively overrated was school days, it is the only time I have ever sat through an anime and at the end felt this was a HUGE waste of time.
I avoid watching popular "mainstream" anime like the big three, mainly because I don't like fillers or over-stretched stories, but I don't think there's such a thing as overrated for anime. Animes are often very specific with their target audiences, so it is very likely for a title be praised, even worshiped by some, and disliked by others.

One Piece is a good anime, but the manga is not nice to read, as many action plots are. An anime that is very much over rated for me is D~Gray Man, now just to be sure, the anime. The Manga for D~Gray Man in my humble opinion is brilliant! Another over rated title for me is Vampire Knight. I wasn't taken in by the Manga, neither by the anime. I'm a BIG fan of Naruto> I watched it since it first aired on Toonami when I was 6. Great show but the filler is bothersome. Lately the animation has gotten sloppy at times which ticks me off. It IS overrated though. Half the fanbase is like "This show was made by God himself!!!" I just shake my head in shame.Good anime not THAT good. Bleach is pretty cool, the fight scenes are the good part. Inuyasha's fun, Kagome's a bitch though. Oh well that's my opinion.

Besides Naruto, Bleach and One Piece, I'd say Love Hina is up there. It's just dull in my opinion and I don't understand why so many people look at it favorably. Haruhi is decent to me, but some people view it as a gift from God and it's clearly not that. I wouldn't consider Cowboy Bebop and Trigun to be overrated at all. Those 2 are in my top favorites and they deserve all the praise they can get.

one piece is generally directed for the older age groups. kids young as 15 or younger probably wont be more or less be interested in this anime. teens these days especially in the U.S. are more interested in teen angst/drama hence twilight. it is sometimes difficult to understand the adult emotions and situations taht one piece has in its story.but for us who grew up with it since 1999, we can appreciate and love this anime more than the younger generation. since we practically grew up with it.

though its genre states comedy in one piece there are numerous cases in which it can get serious and dark in this anime. most people question to see one piece because of how its illustrated. it has a very unique illustration which honestly does take some time to get used to. when i first saw it i thought it was utter crap but boy i was wrong. you could say that the illustration has more of a westernized feel to it. which puts some relief for the asian readers since most manga is asian influenced

usually the straw hat pirates are mostly are on the losing side of the fight. seemingly impossible scenarios and enemies, with their teamwork, determination, and ingenuity they overcome the impossible. often most of them are already almost beaten up during the fights (or already are) but you cant help the fact that you want to root for them and believe taht somehow they can win even in the most impossible situations.

I really liked the sole society arc, I thought it was one of the best shonen arcs I saw, but then after that the show just went down hill. The fights got repetitive, they introduced a bunch or really annoying characters, they don't kill anyone off, and the show completely loss track of its plot. Just my opinion though.

The Naruto anime. Just the anime because the manga is pretty solid. One word filler. Bebop is good, elfen lied is somewhat overrated anime wise just because if you read the manga, you know the anime didn't touch the surface of what goes down in the story. I like Bleach but both anime and manga-wise it has been falling by the wayside due to short, slow story progression. I mean its most recent arc in the manga felt like one of their anime filler arcs if that makes sense.

I say One Piece is not overrated. It's among the small handful of animes that I have really enjoyed and will always remember as a great show. It has literally changed my life in a good way and if you call such a powerful anime overrated then to hell with you! I can see the problems with it though, it is starting to become just another generic anime and it is terribly long but it has a deep value for me and I've enjoyed literally every minute of the currently aired 530 episodes.

Elfen Lied and Death Note are overrated.
Elfen Lied has such a memorably violent opening episode and then it falls completely. In fact episode 1 is so memorable that viewers seem to forget how bad it is after that.
Death Note has an interesting premise and decent story for the first half of the series but then gets convoluted and forced. Characterisation is so disappointing, even Light is!
Though Cowboy Bebop deserves it's plaudits.

Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach are NOT overrated. The reason I don't consider them overrated is because of the unnecessary amount of hate they get. I also disagree with Cowboy Bebop. Like Kitty said, it DEFINITELY deserves all of the praise it gets.
Overrated IMO: Fooly Cooly, Hellsing, Gurren Lagann(just a little), My Neighbor Totoro, Soul Eater, Akira

You should do a video on underrated animes next. But as for what I think is overrated, Naruto and Bleach are definitely high on my list. They have a lot of good elements, like the massive variety of characters and even powers, but sadly they both fall into the common pitfalls of shonen manga. Like overly long fight scenes, confusing levels of powers/ ass-pull powers, and tons of filler.

Your list is 1/3 right. Anyway I say the first fullmetal alchemist tv series (it hypt a dark violent atmoshere without the violence until the last fewepisodes then I was left feeling empty), Witch Hunter Robin (when it was hypt it was suppost to be what hellsing is but it was too slow), Final Fantasy 7: AC (I was expecting something more than a 'look at me' movie), Gurren Lagen (Its a great show, just too paraded upon), and Bleach (Just watch Rurouni Kenshin, Ghost Sweeper Mikami, Kekkaishi).

I know a lot of people are going to flame me for this, but I found Elfen Lied to be overrated. It had a lot of potential, but it ended being a cheesy melodrama. It brings up a lot thought-provoking themes, but it doesn't explore any of them. Instead, they're just used to excuse all the gory violence and nudity in the show. It's not a horrible series, but it's very overrated.
But Cowboy Bebop overrated? Oh, Hell naw! Cowboy Bebop is and will always be the shit!

Trigun and Cowboy bebop are popular shows, but are not overrated (in my opinion). I say this because overrated is when a manga or anime is talked about way to much or gets way to much praise for what it is. Not if a ton of people enjoy the series. In my opinion trigun and cowboy bebop don't get talked about enough! It's all about the new series or the big 3.

Well if I were to pick an UNDERrated anime, I think Dragonball GT would be worth pointing out as an underrated mainstream series. Almost all of its flaws people bash the series for were already present by the Buu saga of DBZ, including plenty of plot holes, inconsistent power levels, an almost entirely useless cast, etc.. What GT did have were some creative story ideas and great villain designs, most of which were handled by Akira himself. The plot too was watched over by him.

@Zero829 A lot of fans didn't like the Buu Saga either and for good reasons, it served little purpose. The reason GT is hated because GT took flaws that people were willing to forgive in the Buu Saga were taken to the extremes.

NARUTO! This should not be as popular as it is. Sure, it's funny and serious at times, but there are far better. And, I'm just going to put out, (in shoujo genre) Ouran High School Host Club. I mean, it's amusing however I feel like the characters are recycled. It just didn't strike me as "amazing". And I agree with Elfen Lied. I like many different types of anime, but I never really got into it. I DO however like Death Note (sub) and Sailor Moon... Overrated? Sure... Sue me :)

I love all anime but there are a few popular anime that disappointed me greatly these include Bleach,Hitman Reborn,and Naruto and i say this because these anime's greatly disappoint me it's like these genius plot and then all of a sudden they let a 3 year old call the shots Naruto is probably the opposite way i'm actually starting to enjoy it more "Believe it". there are a few more anime that i could touch on but my love for anime never changes even though alot of them are not very good.

I avoid watching popular "mainstream" anime like the big three, mainly because I don't like fillers or over-stretched stories, but I don't think there's such a thing as overrated for anime. Animes are often very specific with their target audiences, so it is very likely for a title be praised, even worshiped by some, and disliked by others.
