  • He's not human.

  • @doctorclowny i hope that was just a joke...

  • haha this person is tracing haha..

  • how do u smudge the shading...finger,eraser..i use cotton but not on charcoal cause im just am amatuer..can u help me ? im bad in shading pls rply

  • just when i thought i was decent at drawing lol ;] I guess i gotta keep drawing more...

  • When he is putting the highlights back in (starting about 2:22) is he using white chalk or an eraser? Kind of hard to tell with the vid quality. Brilliant work BTW.

  • i think he is using a kneadable eraser.

  • @xj14y He is using a kneaded eraser

  • vc usou lapis carvão???

  • How long it takes to draw a good picture

  • It depends on a lot of factors, like the choice of medium, color/gray scale, size, complexity and so on. But basically a portrait would take anywhere from an hour to days.

  • LOL THX !

  • omfg! this was awesome. and i know part of the reason i think that is because i am completely suckish (and not afraid to admit it) when it comes to drawing. my idea of art is stick people, (lol, well im a little bit better than that, but you get the point). i wanna be able to draw like this one day though.

  • I know someone who you can draw. Nigahiga. Draw them they are one of the most famous on youtube right now. Thanks awesome drawing. I am trying to draw portraits right now I am not that good at all.

  • wow impressive can i have your haves for at least a day or 2 ^_^

  • lol just yesterday or today i found the song "i wear my sunglasses at night" and today i hear it without wanting xD luck

  • is he using a charcoal pencil? if so i should use it =D

  • Yes its a charcoal pencil and compressed charcoal is a pain to use. First it feels nasty...really scratch when making marks. Second its difficult to get light value from just marking alone.

  • i started using one, and they get really nice darks, but... i know what you mean about the scratchy-ness and it angers me. I'm not too good but i'm practicing =D making an online portfolio =D. Trying to get as good as u and cgsbgs.

  • This man is a true genius!

P.S.Doest anybody know what song is played in this video?

  • It is called "I Wear My Sunglasses at Night."

  • Thanks a lot

  • u bastard how dare u be so freaking good just who do u think u are ? ... u are not of this earth mannnn! u are not human

  • u draw better than i take pictures...

  • same lol

  • i can get my drawings to about 1:54, but no longer. any help?

  • again, fantastic!!!

  • You should try draw Mr.Safety

  • His pencil is his wand

  • I am insanely jealous. o_O

  • your a wizard with that pencil man..

  • you should have another contest. watching these are my fav!

  • good work!!! very awesome!!! like that!!!

  • Absolutely stunning work!

  • elvis ;D ha?

  • This video is the coolest of your all of drawings...it's amazing how you can make a sketch look like a photograph...AWESOME!! I really liked it when you had the portrait person singing in the video (to the right) playing the cool music of Corey Haim? YEAH! BABY!!! On a scale from 1-10--You're a 20++ off the charts!!

    jojocinema

  • hey can u hav another contest? i wanna enter!

  • what does he use to blend the sketch together to make i look so good? does he use like his fingers, or a cloth, or a needy eraser like in his tutorial vids?

  • i can draw up to 1:20 maybe lol...

  • Isn't that elvis??? xD

  • Is it even possible to draw that well? Wow....

  • you work great with charcoal as your medium.

  • I'd be happy if i could do 1/10th of what he does, awesome

  • My God ... it looks like a black and white photograph...

  • this is soooooo awesome. The use of charcoal was great and the video of him singing is so funny :)

  • Very awesome!

  • Oh, so THAT'S how you use charcoal pencils.

As another artist, I've got to say this is amazing. Charcoal's such a difficult medium, but you pulled it off well.

  • GAWd youre good. YOURE AWESOME.

    D: im jealous.

  • Damn, I havent heard this in ages! I wear my sunglasses, but to the bathroom! uhhhhh? I think! Hahahaha! Dude this portrait is workin! Isnt that the dude from the breakfast club???

  • Song is COREY HART lyrics - "Sunglasses At Night" ???

  • he looks like elvis presley o.O!

  • great job!

  • wow he looks like elvis presley =P awesome job

  • I think all of his drawings and techniques are beautiful.I myself draw in such ways and I really appreciate his uploads to this site since they teach me new skills and show true pristine artwork. Others may say some modes he takes are "cheap", however please take into Consideration that maybe some things were under a Deadline of some sort?Who knows, I look at art as the finished product and the beauty, people all have their own ways even if it means getting your"hands dirty";)I love it all 5/5

  • i like it because it doesnt look like he slaped it together in 3:45, he took his time and drew wat he saw, only wat he saw! for that 5/5!

  • Awesome job on the face. I believe that the mic takes away from the photo though. It doesnt look much like a mic either... but still you did such a wonderful job on this!

  • Come on... I don't look like Boston from I love New York... do I?

  • Man you are incredible.

  • he looks like boston on i lov new york

  • of course you'd know this if you were a true fan of art....complain all you want....YOU WILL NOT WIN

  • leave the man alone....art is art....you cannot argue anyone's techniques or level of "professionalism"

  • There is a fine line between constructive criticism and bashing, and I really don't see how saying "I really don't like him." or "his work is cheap" is helping him or anyone. If you have a better technique or method for creating content, im sure everyone would be more than glad to see it if you can back up what you support. Prove to us that by not smudging, you make a picture look more "Professional". Actions speak louder than words.

  • I don't know why people keep talking about graphite. Hes using charcoal pencils and hes using them how they are supposed to be used. Were it truley graphite, smudging might not be as "Professional" as some of you have stated, but because its charcoal I really don't see what everyone is complaining about.

  • Actually, as far as smudging goes - we are not allowed to do that at school. My teacher would literally kill me if he saw it. If you're a professional, though, then it's nobody's business what you do as long as your art sells well.

I can't use most of his(?) techniques, not for learning purpose at least, because that really doesn't help me to get to Estonia's Art University. :/

I like his art, though. I'm just not fond of this particular picture.

  • Awesome art, everything, the song, the whole package.

  • what do u use to smudge it??????

  • his hands obviously.

  • your so awesome

  • good

  • awesome!

  • I like the music too!!!!! Also this is A GREAT DRAWING! keep it up!

  • I like the music, and I love your drawings. You are amazing.

Everyone else, "Oh the music sucked" You know what I say? Who cares? It's all a matter of opinion anyways. Stop dissing other people's music taste cause you don't agree. Stop finding things to complain about and just appreciate the art.

  • best artist ive ever seen!! I GUESS PICKING GOOD MUSIC WASNT ONE OF YOUR TALENTS THOUGH!!!!!!!!!

  • NICE!

  • to state my opinion i think your wrong because there is no such thing as a cheap way to create something other than maybe tracing so i say keep it up there :)

  • sakichirox seriously look at it. Maybe you just don't smudge properly because that looked in no way cheap and sub-par.

  • I never smudge because it's messy, unclear, and cheap. There is no proper way to smudge.

  • Btw, there are properways to smudge. Putting a basic layer of blended charcoal down gives a nice surface for subtractive drawing. Which is exactly what he did here. Done wrong, it looks muddy, but done right, it can completely change a piece for the better.

  • i wish i knew this art

  • I was starting to warm up to your art work but then I saw this. I really don't think you should rub your graphite. If you really want clean, smooth art, you'd use sharp pencils and shade directionally. I've almost never rubbed my graphite, but when I did, my art work seemed cheap and sub-par. Just using the pencil tips makes your art look more professional.

  • How ever he does it, it is AWESOME!!!

  • It's okay... You can think whatever you want but I really don't like him.

  • hahahaha

  • ok. That's cool.

  • no offense...but I think he knows what he is doing

  • No offense, but I think I'm entitled to an opinion. My opinion is that his artwork is just not that good because he uses cheap and quick methods to finish a portrait.

  • could you be more specific as to the methods that are cheap and quick and why this makes him less of an artist. I'm not trying to start an arguement, I am genuinely interested because he is a whole lot better as an artist than I am and I dont see what you mean by his methods. IF he makes good art, then isnt that enough or is there some sort of official qualification based on ones technique?

  • He's pretty good, but if you look at his other work... He can only draw faces. The time he puts into drawing hands and bodies isn't the same time he puts into drawing faces. He rubs the graphite onto his paper instead of taking the time to actually place his pencil on the paper and shade...

  • It's not a matter of time, but the finished product; his finished hands and bodies ARE high-quality, even if they are done quickly. (Though, with his work dealing mostly with faces, it's understandable why he'd detail them more. Cameras focus, so why shouldn't an artist?) As for rubbing graphite: time, again, isn't an issue and directly drawing a shade on the paper creates a build-up of particles, making the artwork more fragile to be moved / increasing the chances of unintentional smudging.

  • ...Also, when he puts the graphite on the paper, it is all over the place and not in a directional, clean manner. All his work is the same looking because the faces are always in the same position or a similar expression. I think I may just be picky but I want to teach my students that it's quality, not quantity.

  • Alas, we are entitled to our own opinions. Everyone may think he's amazing, but I don't. I'm not here to start a conflict. I just want to thank youtube for letting us express our opinions and letting us have conversations like this.

  • Just because you couldn't use the technique to get good-looking art, doesn't mean it's a useless technique, ever thought of the possibility that you just couldn't master it. This guy certainly succeeded in something you couldn't get to work.

  • I agree. And to saki down there, have you ever heard the term if its stupid but works its not stupid? Well in this case if its cheap but works then who gives a damn?! If a work of art looks good its good.

  • and that's a good point. Maybe I just couldn't master that technique. We obviously approach artwork differently and apply ourselves in different ways.

  • smudging can be a technique if you learn how to control it. just because your art teacher tells you to never smudge, it doesnt mean his way of drawing is wrong cause theres no right or wrong ways of doing things in art. his artwork is perfectly fine the way it is.

  • ...Hot!

  • Perhaps a bit fatter than he actually is, but what the hell, you're my idol.. definitely one of the world's best artists alive

  • paper is used not to smudge the paper :)

  • he look like Elvis-))

  • That's what I was thinking!

  • i wanted to say the sam thing..=)))

  • I was looking more at the dude singing rather than the photo being made, but the photo is amazing.

  • looks kind of like elvis

  • wondrin, wat do u use the paper 4? gr8 job, 2.

  • He puts the paper under his hand so that he doesn't smudge the graphite with the side of his hand.

  • You're very talented!!! (O_O)

  • you're a genius.

  • the guy singing is funny hehehe

  • i love the song soooooo much...

  • Youre so fucking talented its almost scary...wtf, how do you draw like that

  • I notice that the paper never moves in any of these videos. Are you using a drafting board or something to stick it down? I'd love to submit my own but I don't have a camera or a mic.

  • believe it or not I use a marshmallow sometimes with my smudging techniques instead of cotton, just don't let it become warm and sticky... :P

  • HOLY CRAP...

    that's all

  • that's very cool. are you using conte? I was always told not to use the "smudging technique" that it wasn't "proper". It seems to work out for you. nicely done.
