@GrafvonWindeck I got the Windows 7 drivers from Windows Update, and Lenovo's driver site. Any Vista drivers you find for this hardware should also work in Windows 7.

@SamoraTheGreat Exactly. I don't exactly own a T42 -- but a T40. I can honestly say that this laptop is just great. I recently installed a 1GB RAM module, and I'm really satisfied. You can definetly install Windows Vista / 7 on these laptops, it won't show any issue.

hello, i am searching for vga card drivers for my t42 (radeon 7500), and only found the xp drivers...

with the xp drivers, there are so many blue screen of death, and i don't have aero...

I have a question. My hard drive went out on my T42 ( running same specs as yours) . If I buy a new hard drive and windows 7 install disk, would it be difficult to get it going? What about installing drivers if the HDD doesn't have any operating system on it? Thanks

@esnaf100 T42 drivers for Windows 7 were easy to get. Use Windows update, or Lenovo's site. Any Windows Vista drivers will work in Windows 7 as well.

Mine is also running Windows 7 but instead its booting of an Transcend SSD. It also has a sata caddy in the dvd rom bay that houses a 320gb 7200 rpm hd. Want to talk about a serious upgrade for these machines? You'll swear you were using at least a dual core or higher...

hi, i've got a T42 and the DVD drive opens constantly while the machine is running for no apparent reason. Do you know how i can fix this? Also where to find a good quality battery, as the one i have currently is getting less and less able to hold a charge.

I got a R52 with the same processor and 256MB ram running on Windows XP. Damn its soooo slow!!!! I'm planning to buy 1GB ram! Will it speed up my laptop?? Coz always I get the message "Virtual memory too low, Windows is increasing the paging file". It takes around 5 mins to boot!!! Anyway will it speed up my pc??? And can I install Windows 7? Is it faster than XP??

I HIGHLY recommend getting 2GB of RAM. Buy two 1GB chips- note that one RAM slot is under the keyboard and the keyboard would have to be taken off. 2GB would make a HUGE difference, and Windows 7 would run perfectly. 1GB would also make a HUGE difference, but 7 would drag. If you only upgrade to 1GB, keep XP.

ive been asked this a lot now, and im very sorry to not being able to help you properly. i searched a whole night long and dont know exactly, how i managed to get it working now.

the driver i have installed now is marked as follwed, though:

i installed it yesterday on my own t42. it works very well, faster than xp! minor issues finding a driver for the radeon 7500, but this is solved now. windows 7 found almost all the drivers itself via automatical update. i was pretty impressed.

Go to lenovo's website, software and downloads, specify your machine type, and find the propper download. If Windows 7 is not a supported OS, just say Vista. It'll work.

James is right about the graphics performance issue. Both runs W7 fine, but T42p abit faster because 7200rpm harddrive and 128MB VGA RAM.

Aero still works with 64MB.

Actually, aero will work on 64MB of video ram. I have a HP Compaq nc8230, and teh 1680x1050 resolution looks great with Aero and 64MB of Intel Radeon video memory.

It actually does run just as well or better on 64MB than my 256MB Intel card with turbo memory. It really runs very smoothly and in my opinion nearly perfectly on 64mb vs 128 and 256.
