I'm a vet, but all it did was mess up my head because of what I done on orders.
But truck driving came natural for my family, so it's all good, and John Anderson played to the common man, not high-brow-act-like-I'm-regular-folk like some singers.
I'm so sick of everyone talking shit about just cause someone's young they "don't know" I'm 19 and grew up to all this music.. some of us do know what good music is, don't judge someone based on age, cause then you look like the young one.
@SouthernBigin18 sound kinda like an anus,, with the attitude and all.. nobody really cares where your from with that kinda attitude, heck most folks dont even wanna hear from ya lol
@paulbunyanpaul Speak for yourself! There was a time before "anuses like you came along you could be proud of who you were and where you came from. lol !!!
Today's country music performers can't hold a candle to folks like John Conlee! There's nothing like the classic sounds of Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, George Jones, etc., etc..
Versailles, Kentucky's own John Conlee!!!! The Bluegrass is proud of you and so is this Richmond, Kentucky boy. Thanks for the great music and fun memories!!
One of the great old country singers that changed country music forever like Earl Thomas Conley and Don Williams and Im sure im forgetting a few others
@xKumarHD Lolz. That's funny. Also, dude's voice is one of the worst tones in countrypolitan (redneck pop) music. It's not even real country, either. And he picks some of the worst written songs to perform!
He whines about how shitty it is to be a working man that I'm half-surprised this song isn't a theme of the commie party or that Obama didn't use it to woo white voters.
@jb92034 Oh, yeah, I have just today. It was done by Cowboy Troy, he had to take a shit song and make it better. I think Conlee even rapped on it, giving much props to his "Socialistic soul niggaz, You don't pay those taxes, The IRS comes wit da triggaz. So give dat shit up you monied sons o' bitches, Da govmint gonna take 90 pro-cent o' yo richez! Yeah! Wel-far for all us nigz an' necks, No mo' work give us much respect!" LOL.
Wow! Cowboy Troy writes better lyrics than Conlee!
I just rediscovered Mr. Conlee's music. I loved it when I heard it on my father's country station back in the early '80's. He is now present on my ipod.
Written by Sammy Johns of 'Chevy van' fame. My favorite line is about drivin' to McDonald's. Love their food. Hit #1 in Billboard, 5-21-83. God bless!
This guy is just that...a common man. I saw him in concert once and he was very good but never made anyone feel that just because he was on stage, made him any better than anyone in the audience. He was well worth sitting in the cold rain to watch. Don't know if he is still touring or not, but no worries, he can always go back to his real job of being a funeral director. Seriously!
i am 41 but this is the first song i ever drank a beer to, i was 17; me, danny alford, joe cook, dewayne ford and ben lowery drivin up to citronelle for a friday night high school football game, chuggin a budweiser just like in the song, lol. well john is comin this weekend and me and becky may go see him perform, sat nite, but zz top is comin next week also but becky doesn't want to go to that.
I had forgotten that so many of my favorite songs were by this one guy. Check out Rose Colored Glasses, Backside of Thirty, Friday Night Blues, Miss Emily's Picture, Busted, I'm Only in it for the Love, Old School, and They Also Serve.
This guy is better than half the garbage on modern "country" stations. Too bad that's not much of a compliment. Overproduction and too many keyboards helps to kill his stuff, John Conlee seems to be a precursor to modern "country". However, if Conlee wasn't very much in control of his career, it's hard to blame him. Nashville has been more about image than music starting Feb. 1959.
jsut discovered this song late last year haulin straw with an old trucker he played his classic country station they played it every day almost love it
I love this song and and John. He had a great voice! Thanks for posting! There is much to be said for the common life and plain old good times! There is nothing classic country!
