Played this today at guitar center... like nothing i have ever played before I love it. that and the ES 339... i want that bad now. lol What scales are those you are playing??
I think the effects you used on this song and with the Tremonti were cutting your sustain down and its got this weird sitar like effect if you listen closley, I think that thing sounded alot better when we jammed at the open mic with the digitech delay
Having owned a T5 Custom for about a year now, I can tell you honestly that if you expect it to sound like a full body acoustic guitar, it won't. However, as the guys from Taylor say "but in the context of a band, it's gonna get the job done". I run mine thru an L.R. Baggs Venue D.I. Pre-amp for the "acoustic" side and thru a Digitech RP-355 for the "electric" side. I play it through the sound system at my church and it definitely "gets the job done".
When you buy a guitar, you want to more than "get the job done". lol You want it to sound amazing or else you may as well have a quality acoustic and quality electric and keep switching back and forth. The sound quality is most important.
@meangreen4321 Thanks for the reply. It depends on how you look at it. If I have to buy 2 quality guitars, then that can potentially cost me a lot more than the price of one T5. If I can't afford that, then I loose out on one or the other. Also, I have to bring 2 instruments with me to every gig which might not be practicable (especially for me playing at a church). At times I barely have room for myself and one guitar, no less two, and an amp, and effects, etc.
Just sold my T5-C2. While it was a super smooth necked guitar, and I have 4 other Taylors, 314c3, K10ce, Baby Taylor BT1, 814ce, I just didn't like the combo setup Bob T tried to obtain. Never sounded right either through a PA or amps, electric or acoustic. I tried a lot of settings. For me just didn't happen. YET, Night Ranger at the NAMM 2010 in Anaheim made their KOA T5's sing beautifully.
Taylor T5 , beautiful guitar but somehow don't like how it sounds. I woudn't say that it's an electric-acoustic guitar, it's rather a half electric - half acoustic one ( a bit "handicapped" ). I was planning to buy one but not anymore. Dissapointed ... after I've watched almost all the videos on youtube about T5...
Thanks for watching. I should let you know this video does no justice to the sounds the T5 can produce. I'm playing through a 10" Vox amp here. When you run this through a nice acoustic amp it sounds amazing. I actually usually run this through a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier and it sounds huge. I can promise if you play one you'll love it.
I will try to upload a video using this guitar unplugged in the next few days. Surprisingly enough, despite the shallow nature of this guitar, it doesn't sound bad unplugged at all! Subscribe to my channel so you will be notified right away when I upload the unplugged video. Thanks for watching!
@samurajszabi You cant really tell if you like this guitar through a shitty Youtube video, and out your $10 speakers can you bro, why don't you go to a guitar shop, and try it yourself, plus there is a wider range of guitars you can try out to suit your style of playing. All i'm saying is don't waste your money on something you heard over the internet, and don't think of NOT buying a guitar because it sounds like shit through your computer speakers.
@samurajszabi You really can't judge any guitar's tone solely listening on youtube. I know when I uploaded my songs on youtube the tone lost quite a bit of warmth, fullness and detail. I start off with a 24bit/96K signal, convert to 16bit to edit video in MS Moviemaker and then upload to youtube...and each step degrades the sound, but the final upload step really affects the tone. Plus you don't know what kind of EQ settings are used and such.
@samurajszabi Unless you've tried it out yourself I wouldn't make up your mind. This guitar is a masterful work of art and is amazing. Agreed with prs907 that the vid does not do this guitar justice because the sound of it is phenomenal.
@samurajszabi the single best way to decide whether or not you would like to own a particular guitar is to head to whatever store near your has that model and actually play it for yourself. The same guitar can sound completely different in the next person's hands. While you may like the sound, it may just feel terrible. Play them all, don't look at price tags or names, and once you find the one that sounds and feels best to you...work toward affording it.
@samurajszabi I know it's been 2 years since you posted that comment, but I have to chime in and say that the T5 sounds great if you use it right. If you use the first pickup position and go through an acoustic amp (I use a Genz-Benz Shenandoah), it sounds as good as my other two Taylors, a 714 and a K22. I haven't played it much using the distorted side, but you should go through an A/B box and send the signal to a bonafide electric amp if you want it to sound like it should.
Here I am using a Vox VT30. It's a smaller practice style amp but it has a decent clean tone to it. I usually run this guitar through a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier and it sounds truly amazing. Most people wouldnt run a guitar like this through a Rectifier but I have to say it sounds incredible. Thanks for watching!
i know you are gonna flip.. but do you think there is a HUGE difference in sound between that and the Ibanez Montage.... cause i cant see paying like 2k for a guitar you can get at least similar sound from for $699..... i'll bet that Taylor would sound amazing through FRACTAL AUDIO AXE-FX unit
You have to look at this like this...Taylor is known world wide for outstanding quality and craftsmanship. Not to say that Ibanez aren't nice but there is going to be a major difference. The Ibanez would be like driving a nice mustang where as the Taylor T5 (especially the Koa Top) would be like driving a Ferrari. There's a reason you have to spend the money for a Taylor. They really are worth every penny, and you do get what you pay for.
A little out of tune, but I'm not going to dog you too bad, this isn't too bad, but how come your notes aren't sustaining any? They sound very cut off.
It's due to the mic I used to record with, it's just the mic on my laptop. I'm going to post some new videos using a condensing mic, that should do the trick. Thanks for watching!
That guitar cost 3000e .. how much you spent on it?
