They immediately contacted me and said their two customer service reps made an error as they knew about this issue and are replacing the locks for free. They sent me a new lock. I'm sure there are still some people using these older U locks...however, Master Locks currently [July 2011] makes 4 types of bicycle U locks, and they all use "disc" locking mechanisms. A disc lock cannot be defeated in this way [it can probably be defeated SOME way...keep watching YouTube!]

The majority of locks out there now generally use laser-cut keys, or other strange variations. If you use a cable lock, the master-key is this wonderful thing called "bolt cutters."

Those who generally steal bikes (as stated) are usually already aware on how to do something like this. The average amateur is likely to try it and fail (there is technique to it).

Most reputable bike shops have a poster on their window about this and only sell star shape or Disc locks.

Kryptonite has switched all their locks to disc type and they are basically pickproof. Read about the world lockpicking championships to see that is not BS.

Buy Kryptonite NY locks or Albus locks for real locks and if you live in high crime areas, use 2 different types.

FYI it's all locks that have this same kind of circular key. The expensive versions have longer pins and either a much wider or thinner base. I saw a video like this a few years back and was able to do it to a safe I owned. I tossed the safe after that.

Buy an expensive lock, they don't have this problem.
