I think its more about the popularity..not the content of the books. Twilight has a huge fanbase (Not as big as HP) but its getting there. Thats why they're compared alot.

Forever Dawn was the original sequel she wrote to Twilight before Twilight was published. It wasn't written strictly for a YA audience, so she gave it to her sister for her birthday and used it as an outline for the rest of the books.
