these are nice, but sir Nigel Greasly designed better locomotives, after all, he designed the LNER A4 Pacific, the fastest class of locomotives ever built, 4468 "MALLARD" holds the world speed record for steam, 126 mph (202 kph) im sorry but the British made better trains ; )
@matanuialive2010 You said: "please excuse my being British old chap." I'm not sure there is any excuse for that (;-)).
Meanwhile, I'm just jealous because you chaps seem to be able to go out the front door any day of the week and see a restored steamer go by. At least that's the impression I get from all the YouTube videos you chaps post.
@matanuialive2010 The way I see it, British locomotives are built for speed and not power. The reason is the difference of terrain. There is a vast difference between the Settle and Carlisle LNER Line and the SP Overland over Donner Pass, even the Fresno line that runs up and down the San Joaquin Valley.. I would wager to say that a SP built MT Class could out pull a BR 9F. I won't even bring big boys into the equation because a certain term called Overkill comes to mind.
@sitp2 ok how is a 220 PSI 2-8-2 passenger loco built to haul express trains on the aberdeen to Edinburgh main line... in Scotland which is hilly... VERY HILLY, NOT POWERFUL
but on a side not just in case you think I'm prejudice, i have two american locos out of ten locos in model railway collection
This is the E9 A-B-A set that UP operates as part of its heritage fleet. I think it is used primarily for "business trains," which is what this was. It is seen here running eastbound through Bennett, CO on the old KP line about 1991.
@FeatherWings78 Not entirely true, the Pioneer Zephyr still sits in the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago and the Nebraska Zephyr is actually in operation at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union.
It was the Cincinnatian ca1947. For the whole story go to my playlist "Steam in the States," see the first video in the list: :Ridin' on the Old B&O."

and 4-12-2s, 2-8-8-2s even one 2-10-10-2. Yeah the WP shared the California Zephyr the most talked about train with DRGW and CB&Q from 1949-1970.

Poeple stair in aw and wounder. They were fast and sleek and full of thunder. They followed the past of smoke and fire.
