While Clint, Danny, Ron, and Darren had hit movies like Changeling/Gran Torino, Slumdog, The Wrestler and Frost/Nixon Ed Zwick is the only director that had a shit movie like The Defiance. I was so dissapointed and the reason I went to see it was because I loved Last Samurai and Blood Diamond.
Have to disagree that most people go to movies for the opportunity to learn something about the human heart and about themselves. People go to movies for entertainment. I like that Clint pretty much disregards the others and gives credit where credit is due. Ideas come from the writers. The only person who's heart and mind truly goes into the script is the writer. Everyone else is just getting paid to do a job.
@cop70s The writers get paid as well, do you think they'd do it happily if they didn't make any money? The actor's heart and mind has to go into the script else the writer's idea will never come across. Same with the directors. Do you think that a script can make a good film without a good director and without good actors and without intelligent people behind the scenes? No it couldn't.
@cop70s Someone pointed out to me the other day that movie making is a team effort. Yes the writers have the origional idea but if intelligent people aren't envolved then that good idea is useless. I don't know if I've understood your comment correctly though so I apologize if I haven't.
@cop70s Oh and I agree that very few people go to the cinema to watch a work of art or learn anything. Most just want to see a pretty face or something but oh well.
