The truth is if government wasn't involved, banks would have to look at the student's ability to pay the loans back. It would require the student to have a greater understanding of the actual value of the degree. Due to the limited ability to get funds, cost of education would decrease. Institutions would be just fine though as technology could increase the efficiency and effectiveness. People are blind. Don't miss American Idol.
It should be cheaper to get an education due to technology, but it is a business like any other. The problem is this isn't sustainable. There are many people with MBAs that can't find work but have 100k debt. What jobs are available for this level of education? The sad reality is that due to government involvement, it no longer makes financial sense to pursue a higher education. Maybe it still does for medicine or nursing, but not for the majority. Are Americans paying attention? No.
It's do to government involvement. It's real simple really. The same bubble is going to happen with student loans. Everybody gets unlimited funding and gets to go to school. Because everyone gets funding and can go tuition prices rise. Everyone goes to school and pays way more than the market will pay them when they get out. Many have gotten aid for BS art and humanities degrees that allow them to compete with HS dimploma holders. They can't pay back there debt. simple.
Where does the tea party stand on this? It would make no sense for them to support the GOP after their "leadership" met with Wall Street begging them for money.
The tea party movement would be wise not to be used by the Republicans who only pretend to have their best interests at heart.

The Scott Brown election was a great thing. The truth is if government wasn't involved, banks would have to look at the student's ability to pay the loans back. It would require the student to have a greater understanding of the actual value of the degree. Due to the limited ability to get funds, cost of education would decrease. Institutions would be just fine though as technology could increase the efficiency and effectiveness. People are blind. Don't miss American Idol.

It should be cheaper to get an education due to technology, but it is a business like any other. The problem is this isn't sustainable. There are many people with MBAs that can't find work but have 100k debt. What jobs are available for this level of education? The sad reality is that due to government involvement, it no longer makes financial sense to pursue a higher education. Maybe it still does for medicine or nursing, but not for the majority. Are Americans paying attention? No.

Unfortunately it seems that instead of reforming the system in a constructive manner like I'm sure he intends to, Barack is being convinced to expand the power of the Federal Reserve, the body more responsible for the crisis than any bank or regulator. By expanding and legitimizing what the FED is doing, Barack is keeping me as a Canadian from investing my money back into America.

How could anybody take the reform seriously when Democrats (I'm not suggesting Republicans would be any better) think that the solution is to invest more power into the FED. You keep pretending this was 100% the work of Wall Street instead of acknowledging the fact that the FED kept interest rates far too low to keep the housing bubble inflated allowing people to get ARMs (adjustable rate mortgages) for homes they could not afford at interest rates far below what they should have been.

@zutroy1 I disagree. what do you think he should do then? Yes Greenspan was a total idiot, he waited far too long before doing a rate hike, BUT that is only one part of the collapse. The fat bankers on wall street gambled on the world market, thought that if their hypothetical mathematical models went their way, they would score BIG. fortunately, it didn't go their way and instead they lost BIG. which in turn led the world's market into recession.

well that's what it means to be a conservative, which is fine. the problem is that the status quo is in many cases HARMFUL to society
and when there is money involved, it's easy for the people that benefit from the status quo to paint the issue of reform as an IDEOLOGICAL battle, even though it is about PROTECTING society. e.g. "government take over of health care" vs "protecting people from insurance companies"
