Some of the song writing is absolutely atrocious and very formulaic complete with a load of cliches like: "at the club" and " c'mon and sex me". Get the picture? Anything makes a quick buck with a strong beat behind it seems to get greater exposure . Don't me wrong, I do like R&B music but done with some creativity and finesse behind it. Anyway, that's just my opinion and maybe it might be that I'm from an age where song writing took centre stage rather than a beat.
but u see Yeah was an up tempo R&B song and it was catchy so it's a party song that even white people liked slow jamz is where it's really at but people can't connect with that white people call it boring music so they don't buy it
You are preaching right now as someone in the entertainment industry not only a writer but an artist as well knows that this is definitely fact and one of the main problems is no one is creating music with substance anymore it has become an automatic industrial line making instant microwaveable music that has no feeling and conviction in it what so ever I believe the music industry will come to its senses when the artist, writer, and most of all consumer stops settling for less CHANGE IS COMING
she was doing great music like Un-Break My Heart, Seven Whole Days but when women like Beyonce came along and started topping the R&B charts. Toni took off her long classy dresses and started wearing scanty lingerie to try to compete with Beyonce.
Toni was already established she did not have to follow that formula but hey it looked like it was selling.
Music video has made it possible for least talented artists to use music videos as platforms to sell their music. It is also responsible for the oversexualization of pop acts. When there were real singers shows like American Banstand and Soul Train made it possible for singers to sell their music without having to deal with other obligations such as videos.
i think the music industry are resorting to shitty auto-tuning and making hip hop, r'n'b music sound like dance music because they have the technology to do it. but still, it sounds crap. what happened to the soulfulness of r'n'b? it's all gone.
and it's dead. it's about time someone told the artists, record labels through facebook, twitter on their accounts that the r'n'b music today is just not good enough.
You speak the truth Izzik3, I searched RNB is dead and found your vid! Things have got worse and worse every year! I used to be able to add music all the time to my car to listen to on the streets, But now i am lucky to add 2-3 tracks a year! Anyways nice vid and iv subscribed!
I liked that you didnt come off as Ike Dirty the successful music produce and voice over guy..you came off as a passionate lover of Urban Music yet a disappointed fan of Urban Music. Thanks for the post! I hope that I help move Urban Music in the right direction!! Don't Worry..I'll wait..CLASSIC!
Yea this is the truth the we getting flooded with garbage instead of good quality music. I'm tired of dance tracks, where's the music the really get your head bobbing. More importantly good music takes you to a memory or makes you feel a certain way. This hype stuff gotta go! Glad you spoke up Joe.
Gotta keep in mind the reason why A&R's/Execs are taking more money from artist is because of piracy.. they profits have been cut in half and its still going down. If we kill piracy.. music will come back.Artist development and big album budgets will come back and we can return to the good days.
Co-Sign 100%!!!!!! Also...back in the day it was more about how U sounded..now its almost exclusively how U look...and now we're stuck with beautiful garbage instead of ugly nourishment...

Adele is not really urban but she falls under that soul category and she is selling really well.
I beleive she outsold pop acts like Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Katy Perry.

That was what happened to Toni Braxton as well
she was doing great music like Un-Break My Heart, Seven Whole Days but when women like Beyonce came along and started topping the R&B charts. Toni took off her long classy dresses and started wearing scanty lingerie to try to compete with Beyonce.

What also killed R&B music is the music video
