There is no service on the phone. No network. Obviously this is a command that does not need the network. So what happens if you turn on 3G or Wifi? Does apple's servers see that it is a 3GS and deny the siri request?

@chaadlosan even these commands use apple servers to process. though the info is stored on your device, it is quicker to send the voice data to apple and back to process than it is for the phone to process itself. so in short terms, everything siri does is server-side.
