@samueldelano ...of course he's well known internationally....i've read about him in TIME, GQ, VANITY FAIR.. These are international magazines. Infact, he's known to be target to some musical instrument makers in Japan and China... they send complimentary samples of new instruments to him- they are aware of his keen interest and ability to pay for good musical instrument....Up Naija
The original Esu bibiri of Sunny Ade was released after his return from his first USA visit in 1975.He was coming out of one year court ban because he broke with his sponsor Abioro. He is the master when it comes to juju music
You guys are great.Tthank God Juju music still retain his fans and wont allow Fuji to take over Juju Am an old fashion listener I love Sunny Ade music to death all i want is Sunny Ade and his Green Spot Volume 1 with African songs titled Sunny Ti de Miliki ,Ategun la wa etc If you have it pls bring back the old tune for me i have tried radio lagos no way Sunny himself does not know the where about of this musik
Thanks to you all for sharing these super beats. Does anyone have Sunny Ade's track "Agbada nla ti mo da, mo wo inu egun, egun O gun mi"? Pls share it if you have.
there is A MISSING SUNNY ALBUM CALLED "ODU"-released in the 80's)Not the one released in the 90's- with original yoruba songs like "omode meta n'sere"- and so on. It's the best ever sunny album. THE SLEEVE OF THE ALBUM HAD THE PICTURE OF SUNNY WEARING A EMBRIODED RED JACKET. Somebody must have the record somewhere there are very few of them around for only God's know why!!!-
Both the sleeve and the songs are out of circulation it baba KSA's best every album
Odu was released in 1985 as part of Sunny Ade's fulfillment of the terms of his contract with Island Records; it could be 1984. There was an earlier Ijinle Odu,1982, available on youtube. Odu was supposed to be a rough-and-ready collection of folk songs; Obey tried the same gimmick with lesser success later in '85. The record must not have been memorable for me, because I don't recall it vividly; it also marked a point in S's career when he became taken with too many sound effects in his music.
@Outreachat: When i looked at KSA discography, i was trying to figure out he released only two records in 1975. Now the code has been broken. This incident probably explains why Fela Kuti became great friends with KSA.
Between 1972 and '79 both Ebenezer Obey and Sunny Ade had a constant average of 4 LPs (long playing records) per year; Dele Abiodun had three for a while and then dropped back to two, because he needed to work a lot more on his music if he was to earn his number three spot in juju music at the time. He did earn it. Fela actually had an average of about six albums per year around the same period. Sunny had 2 in '75 because of the ban; funny, I no longer remember what the second one was about!
@Outreachat: KSA was probably the first person in Africa to challenge the big corporations. He wasn't going to just sit there & tolerate getting himself ripped off by these scoundrals, So he did something about it.
@Outreachat: So rather than have KSAs contract terminated, the courts decided to slap his wrist by teaching him a lesson. So they imposed a one year ban on his future releases. On behalf of his former record company.
@Outreachat: Birds of a fever, stick together. I can see late Chief Bolarinwa Abioro of TYC fame, saying to his friends, in their secret societies,"We cannot have little people challenging us!"
The original was released in September 1975, his first release in more than a year since 1974. He had been banned from further album releases by the courts when his former label sued him for a breach of contract after his independent release of "E kilo f'omode". Sunny Ade went into exile in the US, followed by claims he had gone mad. The original of this album came upon his return, and may very well be the most anticipated album in the records of Nigerian music. Please post the original, anyone!

Superb! One wonders why he did not achieve international stardom like Bob Marley, Hugh Masekela, Mariam Makeba etc.

I love this tune! This is definitely one of his best hits of the 1970's. Great African balad, soul from Africa's king of Juju Music.
