This clip is taken from a series called 'Nature's Great Events', narrated by David Attenborough. The pelicans had no choice but to eat the gannet chicks, as fish was in short supply. Obviously their own chicks and themselves are their top priority. Animals don't take some kind of perverse pleasure out of killing each other; that's a human trait.
