  • how would this amazing amp sound with a Bad Monkey? thanks for the nice vid!

  • wait one channel? how do you switch from clean to overdrive?

  • @yamahabmxer1 You don't. It's a one channel amp with two modes.

Essentially, it's sort of a two channel amp, but with a shared eq, and the channels are Overdrive and More Overdrive.

  • what cab are u using

  • can this amp do hard rock/metal (but not to the point of 10000000000 gain type)

  • yea led zeppelin the rover!!!!!

  • @mrflip321go

Albeit a really poor rendition of it. Thanks for listening.

    Jim

  • Kicks ass man! its me Slashwannabe from the Forum!

  • @Nellysman1

Thanks for listening. I still really love this amp!

  • Ha! I got the 100w Vintage Modern!!! Love it!

  • Sounds dam good with the midboost in!

  • I think this thing sounds very fat and dynamic in the bass region for a marshall. I'm a big fan but many times the low end is lacking (even since the jcm800).

  • @goingwithzed

Well it's a Marshall and isn't going to have the modern low end thing going. I do love these amps with a boost pedal. Very good hard rock tone.

  • @goingwithzed this amp has good low because of the KT66 valves !!!

  • where is the volume set in this clip ? it dos'nt sound very loud

  • @CoolStrat62

TV volumes. The Vintage Modern is a PPIMV design so it works pretty well at low volumes. It does sound better/fatter at loud volumes though. Tahnks for listening.

  • Nice! I got an '83 JCM 800 2204. Want either a dual rectifier, triple, or JVM 410... I WANT 'EM ALL!!

  • @pajmanj Do it!!! I'm in the complete opposite spectrum as you brotha... got the dual rectifier going for the marshall now, but keeping them both!!! maybe a tiny terror too lol ;) \m/

  • Hey man great vid!! It helped me in deciding to buy this amp. I got the 100 watt (2466) for $900 off eBay. I boost it with a Zakk Wylde overdrive and it sounds awesome. Sounds great un-boosted as well. Great clean tones!

  • Have you thought about modding the amp? Even if you say no. What disadvantages does this amp have?

  • is it loud when it s overdriven?

  • @aituaitz yes but it has a master volume

  • rock bottom?

  • @brotor1988 no the song is The rover by Led Zeppelin

  • sounds very van halen! I like it!

  • does the 2466 have 3 channel?

  • No just two seperate Dynamic Ranges. See my response just below this reply.

  • can you write here the settings used?

    i mean treble exc...

    thanx

  • They're listed towars the bottom of the page.

For Straters pot the tone knobs at noon. Detail above 3:00 and the Body less than 10:00. I no longer use the Mid Boost. I leave it out. Obviously this is High Dynamic mode. Keep the Reverb off. Pres and Volume as needed.

  • Hi,

I really love the tones of that amp but I wonder if footswitching from the low dynamic setting to the high dynamic setting it features a clean sound and a distorted sound ?

    Thank you.

  • Low Dynamic range has less volume and is more like a JTM45. High Dynamic Range is louder and more hotrodded in sound.

  • Thank you and please excuse me for my English that is not that good.

  • Your english is fine.

  • how does it sound at lower volumes?

  • One of the best amp you can buy for low volume playing due to its PPIMV.

  • Are there some maiden tones in this?

  • for maiden I would recommend getting a JMP-1 and a nice tube power amp

  • With the right boost I would say absolutely.

  • I always knew this thing could get a nice, high-ish gain tone. I am definitely getting one now! that's exactly the tone I've always wanted!

  • how would you guys compare this to a vintage JCM 800?

    sounds very nice.

  • Can I ask what cab youre using?

  • I believe they come with a 425A or 425B. I think they have Celestion Greenbacks in 'em.

  • if that's all you planning on playing on it, then keep looking. this thing is too pricey to spend on pop punk.

    but yes it can

  • @JIMMYJIBLETS What makes you say that? You think that pop/punk doesn't require good equipment?

To sound really good, everybody needs good equipment.

  • @slysendice

because that type of sound can be achieved with a fender, or a vox. You really don't need to spend $3000 on an amp head and cabinet to get such a general tone.

  • @JIMMYJIBLETS This amp doesn't cost $3000, its $1300, combo is $1600 which is what a new Vox or Fender combo costs too, and when you alluded to Fender or Vox achieving the same sound as Marshall it became apparent you have no idea what you are talking about. No pedal or attenuator will ever turn any Fender or Vox into a Marshall, not even close with the best guitarist in the world. What style of music doesn't use a completely general tone? The great joke is that you can't name a single one.

  • @JamesNiskyMusic

Go have a look at my channel. I'm running a $3000 custom built Vox Ac30 in african mahogany, I'm not cheap with amps. I just realize that you don't need to run a Vintage Modern for boring generic pop punk. the most common amps among pop punk bands tend to be JCM900s for a reason. The produce "that" tone that serves the genre well. Also, I promise you that a Rothwell Hellbender pedal run through a fender bassman is very nearly indistinguishable from a Marshall 1959 live ;)

  • @slysendice He is an idiot, that is what made him say that . . . . . . . laughing.

  • @JIMMYJIBLETS Expensive? For a tube amp? It sounds like you are just really CHEAP! A Soldano SLO is expensive, a Two-Rock is very expensive, how cheap do you want the guy to go? I can't think of a cheaper "good" amp that would suit a pop-punk band better. Are you really so cheap that you are getting uptight about what other people want to spend their money on? Please tell us what style of music would call for spending $3000 on a rig? blues? funk? country? metal? So why not pop-punk?

  • @JamesNiskyMusic saying "expensive, for a tube amp?" is the same thing as saying "mercedes, expensive? for a car? are you stupid?" the term expensive is relative.

go away and scream about amps to people who dont already spend thousands a year on gear, im not interested in what some anonymous nobody on youtube has to say to me. dont bother replying to this.

  • I'm sure it would sound fine. Billie Joe uses this amp, basically. He uses a Marshall Super Lead ("Plexi") which is basically this amp with less features and a higher price.

  • @sly but his is heavily modded. hes had tone caps switched and extra gain stages added. theses probably areny the best bedroom amps just because theyre so responsive to power amp output they wont sound their best unless theyre sort of cranked. even though it has a master volume knob a lot of his tones come from the actual speaker breakup. besides, on the new green day album, which all the songs he listed are off of, he didnt use his plexi. he used an old park head that he modded the hell out of.

  • @greendayrokr That may be true, but live, I'm pretty sure Billie uses his plexi. This is pretty much just like Billie's plexi anyway. This has extra gain stages and such as well. Either way, it's a fine amp.

  • @slysendice he does use his plexi live. this is a good amp. definitely not arguing that fact. but though this may achieve that great plexi tone, there are other amps that can get it too, while still being more versatile. i would get this amp if i had more amp heads to use for everything else, because this is pretty much a one trick pony, although its great for what it does. im just saying that theres gonna be stuff other than GD he'll want to play, and get frustrated that his amp isnt more versa

  • @slysendice tile. not saying in any way this is bad amp, and i would get it in a heart beat if i had an other amp with more versatility, but i dont, and im guessing BlankBrandon doesnt either. not a bad thing. just a hunch. thats the only reason i didnt get this amp. i decided to get a JVM because not only does it literally replicate plexi tones as well, but also is much more versatile. i absolutely love green day and honestly wouldnt have gotten the JVM if it didnt get spot on dookie tones.

  • this vid makes me want one sooo bad.

i alredy wanted one soooo bad but this makes me want it soooo much more lol

good playing, awesome tone :P (Y)

  • have you ever heard of the mg series??

  • no. not at all

  • is this head tube or solid state?

  • All tube.

  • it sounds so nice. how long did u have it on before u recorded

  • Not sure. I sold this amp to try other amps but I regret selling it big time.

  • aww dude, this sounds amazing. u made a mistake man

  • I know I know

  • is this on the overdrive channel?>

  • High Dynamnic range. Mid Boost In

  • its a one channel amp...

  • Hey man! nice demo!

can you get a similar jcm 800 sound from this amp?

it is possible to play things from led zep to iron maiden ?

  • Well it's it's own Marshall but it is a Marshall. So not sure how to compare it to the 800. I love the VM for what it does.

Led Zep without a doubt, especially when cranked. Iron Maiden you might want to use a quality overdrive for the leads.

  • Ok thx man ;-)

I hope to try one soon!

  • Can I get something like Slash with these Amp ?

I have a Les Paul 59 with Alnico Pro II pickups. What do you guys recommend me?

  • Hell yes!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • For the VR record Libertad thats pretty much what he used. His signature Les Paul which is based on a '59, with Alnico II Pro's in it, and a Vintage Modern head. For his more classic stuff it was a Silver Jubilee or a JCM 800. If your going for his sound your guitar and a Vintage Modern head would be perfect.

  • I got the same amp and love it! Great Job!

  • They are a different type of greenback though....their not the same type of speakers as the Marshall 1960TV cab.... not saying your tone is bad it sounds really good but if you want a real greenback go with the 1960TV cab...

  • Marshall 425A with the stock greenbacks.

  • dude what cab are you using?

  • omg u sound just lie lenny kravitz :O

the song erm...well anyway it does lol

    song: the that Fts slash

  • always on the run

  • Your Amp sounds Amazing!!!

Have you played the JCM 2000 DSL? Also, does the effect work pretty well?

Have you used a overdrive pedal to push the amp?

I dunno to get this or the JCM 2000...

    Thanks!

  • I would go with the DSL man those are ridiculous man....

  • hey did i hear a little piece of metropolis pt1 in there? i recognize that wide vibrato/harmonic anywhere. so petrucci like. mmm dt. gotta love em

  • gotta a vintage modern half stack for sale on ebay ,very cheap !!!!! just search vintage modern 2466

  • if that sound comes from the guitar plugged directly in the amp, without any boost between them, i think it's a great nice tone!

a pleasant amount of distortion! thanks for the demo

  • Hey man. Great playing :D Is the VM like a Plexi and JCM 800 combined? I heard that it is kinda like that. Any help on that would be great. Thanks and KEEP ON ROCKIN!

  • Well I guess you could make that argument tonewise. To me it's a very crunchy Plexi type amp.

  • what is the difference between the marshall vin modern 2266 and 2466??

  • The 2466 is the 100wat version. It has 4 KT66 tubes. The 2266 is the 50 watt version which has 2 KT66 tubes.

  • hi what are the settings you used in this video

  • Read through the comments ;- )

  • Hi TMSierra!

A cheap Metal Core pedal is Boss Metal Core!

  • hey man,

very nice sound and good playing! I like it!

  • is this amp good for metal sounds?? like without any pedals...

  • I would not recommend any Marshall without a pedal. If you want metal be prepared to try a few boost pedals. Try a Barber Direct Drive.

  • thanks

  • also try a zakk wylde overdrive, cheap and it drives the front end of your amp really well

  • Look up "solo output"

  • i was planing of byeing this amp, so if you had this amp you can tell should i do it?

or is there another as good or even better amp out there?

  • just go to an amp store take your guitar with you and try them all (i know you'll feel like you are annoying the people how work there but who gives a shit you're about to spend a hell-of-a-lotta cash) You want to make sure you make the right choice xD

  • what the name of the first zeppelin song that you played? i have it on cassette but i cant figure out which one it is

  • the rover

  • The Rover

  • Beautiful tone, yngzaklynch. What are your body/detail settings? EQ settings?

  • Read up the page here. I posted that stuff. I no longer own this amp. Kinda regret selling it though. Very cool amp for sure.

  • What kind of Celestion speakers are in the cabinet?

  • Reissue greenbacks I believe.

  • i think i might invest in one of these

  • Does the vintage modern have any clean channel?

  • Does it..look like it?

  • yes, it actually sounds pretty good, the reverb is digital though, but honestly you could never tell.

  • WHICH IS 100 WATTS THIS OR THE 226?

  • 2226 is the 50 watt(2 KT66). This is the 2246(4 KT66) 100 watt head.

  • Nice Zep licks duuuuuuuuude!

  • i love this amp!! i played it, was absolutely blown away, it was just what ive been looking for. Great amp

  • did u ever tried jvm 205 h? u will get the same sound but jvm got more tone possebilites. i compared them and the jvm is better !

  • Oposite for me.

  • It's not BETTER...if you really compared them equally you would have noticed that whaat VM lacks in versatility it makes up for in shear tone, natural cleans, and creamy leads.

  • If you want a metal/hard rock blues sound in your cabinet get 2 Celestion G12T-75W and 2 Celestion Vintage 30's. You'll get a really good low end sound great for playing power chords and the vintage 30's are amazing for high end stuff like solos

  • whats the difference in the 2466 head and the 2266 head??? like i know one is 50 wts, and the others 100, but whats the difference that it makes??

  • more clarity and volume

  • if this is unboosted , it has more gain than i thought

    this is cool

  • very nice, amp. was thinknig about gettung it. but i just heard the Hendirx Stack, OMG this thing sounds liek crap compared to it. it sounds so THIN!!!

  • Unboosted? :P

  • Yeah, a amp that slash uses too:D

  • Is the distortion on the amp good?

  • If you're looking for high gain in a Marshall then you need either the new JVM or a MF350. And no the MF350 does not sound like shit like most bedroom jammer kids profess, it will take your fkn face off if you dial it correctly and crank it past bedroom level. Why shitwhit kids buy pro amps to fuck around with in their bedrooms is beyond me, get a fkn pod if you aint playing live.

  • fuck yeah, the rover

  • best amp evr

  • Can you tell me where the About This Video section is with your settings? I've looked all over the page but can't find that area with your settings. I just got this head a couple days ago, and that's the sound I'm trying to get out of it. Thanks!

  • The cab is the VM 4x12 with the greenbacks. reverb off, Bass at noon or a little less, mid 10:30, treble 3:00, high dynamic range, mid boost in, detail at 4:00, body 8:30. Now these are at lower volume settings.

  • Thanks...can I also ask you what guitar and PUPS you are using, and if it is a Les Paul or similar, are you using the bridge only PUP. Also, there was mention on an earlier post about putting a pedal before the amp...are you using anything like a Tubescreamer on this demo or is that the amp only making the sound? Thanks again!

  • I think I used an Inbanez RG 1570 with a Dimarzio EVO 2 in the bridge. I didn't use a boost in this video hence the unboosted in the titile. But I love this amp with a Keeley modded Bos SD-1. A stock Boss SD-1 is nice to. On the pedal keep the Gain low, the Level cranked, and the Tone around 1:00

  • Thank you for the response...I finally found the sound! I replaced the pups in my Les Paul copy recently with a DiMarzio Humbucker from Hell in the neck and a PAF Bridge in the bridge. The key for me in getting the vintage sound I was looking for was to push-in the mid-boost, keep the Dynamic Range in the low position, put the Detail at about 11 o'clock and Body at 9 o'clock and use the bridge pup. Of course, the Master volume has to come up, but now the KT66's are working harder.

  • May I suggest you set everything to 12 o'clock and add and subtract what you think it needs? This will help you find your own tone.

  • this video was really helpfull thanx. but i have 1 question i cant decide between the 50 or 100 watt head please help. do you in what the are different

  • 2 power tubes. Let your ears be the judge.

  • Cool.

  • i tried a vintage modern in a shop 2day i think it was the 2466 but i couldnt get tht much gain. could it hav been that i didnt hav enof tym 2 play around wiv it or was it probly a different model?

  • Crank the Detail but keep the body around 9:00. A Boss SD-1 will really help with getting a more overdriven sound.

  • cheers m8t

  • can u get any volume from only the head? or must you buy the cabinet as well?

  • u need a cab wih any head. the head does not have speakers, it is the brain, the cab is the vocal chords or watever.

  • oh ok i c. thanx for the info.

  • i 4got to say. u can also buy a combo amp which does not require a head and its cheaper. vintage modern has combo amps too just look it up

  • yeah, im looking at it now, but, im actually in a band, and once we start doing gigs, i want a stack(even a half stack). i got another question, wen u bought ur vintage modern, did it come with the foor switches?

  • If people want it to have as much gain as the DSL its pretty simple to achieve with a boost in the loop, like the mxr boost, Marshall govn'r, doesnt need much of a boost to really

push it. whats good is you turn off the boost and you are back to that great Vintage sound that you cant get from the DSL.

  • WATS BETTER DSL OR VINTAGE THX?

  • if you like the classic rock tones get this slash is using it, acdc are using it just now in the studio, whitesnake are using it, joe satch is supposed to be using it soon and it nails the old 70's 80's crunch perfect if you like more high gain metal then get the dsl

  • thx

  • dont buy a marshall if you want the marshall tone. Vintage moderns SUCK unless you can crank them, and the JCM2000 series is aimed more at high gain than marshall crunch. Look into splawn, or traynor

  • is the ds-1 a boss pedal?

  • Well it's a Keeley modded Boss SD-1. The yellow pedal.

  • what cabinet are you using??

  • peanutavalon:

    ------------------------------------

I do love my 900, but the VM sounds like the

original Marshalls of the late 60's, Clapton, Hendrix sound, deeper bass than the 900 and with the "dynamic boost" and Mid Boost, it turns into a super high gain amp, i have never heard an amp so good, yes you could use

it as a blues amp with the Dynamic Boost and mid boost off, then it sounds like an original Plexi

  • I finaly got mine in the mail yesterday

it just put my 900 and DSL into retirement!!;o)

  • how do you like the vintage modern..I too have a 900. is the vm versitile for a rock blues band? Does it have good low end and lots of mids? let me know

  • I like DSLs. Glad your digging the VM. It an awesome amp. The SD-1 with the Level cranked, Gain low turns the VM into a great 80s metal amp. I'm sure the VM would work for blues to.

  • how much is the head and cab sounds amazin and is the distortion good?

  • Hi how do u rate the dsl50 please?

  • its your cab a 1960 vintage?

  • It's the Vintage Modern 425A with greenbacks.

  • thanks :D

  • did you find a geat difference in the a stack, and the b stack? (by the way, does the V.M. come with footswitches?)

    -thanx

  • Yeah. 2 buttons. one for the high or low dynamic ranges and the other is simply an on/off for the reverb which really isn't very good.

  • so which one has the 2 bottons?

  • Just Bought one!! man im pumped!!

  • slash plays this amp live. he loves these things

  • It just hit me what they sound like, they sound like the Marshalls from like 1972.

  • Just a week till i get my VM 50 head

    cant wait.

  • im a classic rock guy, Zepplin, Cream, Hendrix Mountain this is perfect

  • Thanks for listening. It's a great amp!
