Thanks for sharing, all I have is d memories of net fishing, it's all stopped on d river Shannon. Ireland, didn't care about catching much , but when one hit d net what a buzz. but loved being out on d water,
hey i was wondering if you could give me some info on fishing on bristol bay cause i am working on a bristol bay boat as a deckhand so if you dont mind that would be greatly appreciated
To the retard who said this has been going on since "humanity existed".. I'd like to know how many cavemen were taking boats out and casting huge nets. Why are all the fucking morons I meet meat eaters?
Are you one of those PETAphile ? For your information, yeah we, human, are an animal and we have been hunting and fishing since the begining. Just like any other animal in the wild.
the person who commented on this being outlawed, i would like to know what he does for these fish, how he contributes to the environment, and how he helps to feed the world.? any how looks pretty. like to see em taggin her off like that.
nice vid my dads side of the family all use to gillnet on the columbia. I can't wait to see the sports fishermans cries in another 4-5 years when there isn't much of a spring salmon fishery on the lower river because of low returns. Who are they going to blame the nets didn't even go in below vancouver.
you idiot. this has been going on since humanity has existed pretty much, you dont know how much fish go up the rivers. if not for us they would overpopulate waay too much and suck the nutrients out of the rivers
For one, we do know how MANY, (not much), fish go up most rivers. Two, fish add nutrients to the river you jack ass. I have done research lately, I dont think it should be outlawed, just needs to be done differently than it is now.
@dirtbikemike69 hah, also, they no exactly how much salmon are going up a river, and does 1.1 million sockeye sound like a small number? i know the escapement was more but thats just an example of one river, the Naknek river. There are a lot of rivers all around the bay that are getting plenty of fish, and sincethe Dept. of Fish and Game has been around, the runs have increased in size drastically since say the 50's. I would like to see you try to outsmart some of the biologists up there.
They are not indiscriminate. I've fished the Bristol Bay for over 10 years and all we caught were sockeye. The runs are protected by the Alaskan Dept. of Fish and Game and biologists...not allowed to fish unless the rivers get their escapement quotas.
it's fun until you have to clean them, lucky are you guys up there you don't gotta clean them, we get 200 and we gotta clear the next hour or 2 for cleaning...i'll stick to chum.

Okay ppl... as long as there is significant returns (meaning enough fish escape to ensure spawning) then I see no problem.

ive seen this many times, still makes me jump for joy.
a net sinking is the best when you cap a ball of fish.
gd work!

Gillnets are an outdated indiscriminate form of fishing that no longer align with our current need to preserve threatened runs from extinction.
