Christ I served in the U.S. Navy and when I joined in 1996, I was not greeted by The Village People when I got to boot camp BUT when I arrived to the fleet at NAVSTA SAN DIEGO, they were showing us how to be some suave sophisticated dance moves and it was always a party except when we had to stand duty section!

I actually bothered to go to their official site: "Down Periscope (the guys actually perform with the cast of Down Periscope as the credits roll during the film)" so that's really them. With a bit more digging, apparently not all of them are, but some are. ^_~ So that would explain the vibe :P
