And your ethnicity is what you actually know you are. For instance, I know that I have ancestors from countries in Africa, Scotland, China, and America (tribes including Catawba, Cherokee) so that is my actual ethnicity. I think people identify with the culture that accepts them. And if that's no culture you make your own.

I think he's saying his heritage is African but his culture is not which is a valid point. I consider myself African American/Black and I personally consider both terms to be interchangeable. However, there are some Black Americans who don't feel this way and they are entitled to their feelings. Black Americans are descendants of the African slaves who clearly possess a hybrid culture (they have created their own unique culture since they have been in America).

I think he's saying his heritage is African but his culture is not which is a valid point. I consider myself African American/Black and I personally consider both terms to be interchangeable. However, there are some Black Americans who don't feel this way and they are entitled to their feelings. @soragirl6 Why is it that Geneticists DO classify race by Haplogroups & races have genetically specific haplogroups which can be traced back to country of origin. Your argument is foolish, at best. White South Africans have lived in Africa for over a century--but they are still of European descent genetically. Just as black descendants of slave in USA are of African descent genetically. U can disassociate yourself from Africa culturally, but genetically u cannot.
