I just loathe it when people call modern power metal "old metal". Is it "old" because it isn't "cookie monster vocals" metal?
If so, then people, not just you jotapeconce, please get an education on the different genres of metal.
There's thrash metal, power metal, traditional metal, pop metal, hair metal, death metal, black metal, metalcore, alternative metal, symphonic metal, doom metal, gothic metal.
It seems that anything that isn't metalcore, is considered "old metal".
I love the old very true metal songs from Nocturnal Rites so much. And if I remember right, he left the band, because he wanted it that way and the others wanted more power metal.

Same here! I absolutely adore the first 3 NR albums - "Tales Of Mystery And Imagination" was my first metal album ever, it's got a special place in my heart. Too bad Anders Zackrisson has left. He was the best. I really miss his vocals nowadays. And the latest 3 NR albums were really really boring midtempo crap (in my personal opinion)... no more awesome songs such as the good old "Pentragram", "The Vision" or "Glorious"... :( :(
yeah them songs all kick arse, Pentagram was the first NR song (and Power Metal for that matter) that I heard... I Still love it. I do still love the New albums, Shadowland and New World Messiah are so frikkin awesome it hurts, but the other three take some getting used to...
He made some songs with a band called Comara and he sings on the debut EP of a project called Planet Storm. Other than that, I don't know. But at least it's something.
Anders Zackrisson was the best, they really shit the bed when they got rid of him. I was always hoping he'd resurface with another band, but haven't heard anything about him. This is also their best album by far, but the first 3 are good. Fuck the new singer & any shit they put out after 'Talisman.
On this album (The Sacred Talisman) singer is Anders Zackrisson, (he was on the first three albums). I like power metal.. but in my opinion the second and the third albums are MASTERPIECES, I like the nowadays sound of Nocturnal Rites... But my hope was always Anders return to the band.. Anyone knows anything about him?
I totally agree with that! I think NR get's worse with every album... the first 3 are killer! I just know that anders was in a band called "gotham city" before he joined nocturnal rites. Since I know this, I try to get one of their albums :(
