well he is a great musician/composer/performer so i dont think someone is "pretentious" if he can really deliver... and he doesnt look pretentious at all hes funny in his own way.. but i dont think because he's famous he should be nice and humble around every dick that says "hey, your thurston from SY arent ya?"

Everyone on here that is calling Thurston "pretentious" and "snobby" are completely wrong. I met him at the Teenage Jesus and the Jerks show in Brooklyn on Oct. 3, 2009 and he was very nice and friendly--a real "regular" guy. Why bad-mouth him? He is a very relaxed guy and real pleasant conversationalist.
sorry abou that.. that's the way i feel about that band.. once me and some friends were in the backstage and he and kim acted really snobby (my impression) while the drummer shelley guy was so cool and played sopccer w us.. even ranaldo seemed cool.. whatever... I could not listen to any of theyr stuff except may be the the late experimental discs... I hope goo and the sst records are worth some doe but I doubt it..
i knew steve fairly well when he was in the crucifucks; anytime I run into him now,he's still laid back and cool.
thurston, on the other hand, is a schemer that just wants attention. he has schemed to gain access to people's personal archives so that he can make his book. giving little or no credit is most cases.
SY's now is proof of this, to me. since Bad Moon, they've steered away from being truly progressive in favor of that ol' rock an' roll formula and fame and fortune.
east lansing to be exact but I think other lineups of the band may have been from detroit... not sure on that. I think doc dart is still in lansing though...
@mazigazi I met Doc in Lansing way back in the late 80's. It was great. My band did a cover of one of their tunes and I made a copy for him. I didn't get a chance to find out his review of it though.

Don't worry, I'm not listening. I got my fill of No Wave when I watched Kill Your Idols. Thurston Moore is a pretentious shit, but oddly enough I like a lot of Sonic Youth (who were not part of the No Wave "movement" as far as I can tell). Thurston isn't Godfather of shit.
@mhofkp godfathers? what did they "godfather"? and don't say "noise rock". they got all their ideas from the avant garde and applied them to rock; which is not exactly a new idea. their live shows in the early to mid 80s were some of the best rock I've seen live ever. but, having seen them live in the 90s, they devolved to a pile of corporate sameness. besides, clinging to a band for over 20 years now is pretty boring, isn't it?
Thanks for the doc.! What a great book. It's selling very well at my local bookstores. They can't keep it on the shelf.
Check out my channel swisscolorvision to see some of the hot music I shot: U.S. Maple, The Flying Luttenbachers, Arab on Radar, Glass Candy, Metalux, etc.....more to come.
