  • Is the Goliath rear drag combo ok to use in salt water? Or will it get corroded by salt

  • I am a saltwater fisherman of Florida, just purchased one of the goliath rods, still waiting for it in the mail, I plan on breaking this record with a saltwater species. :)

  • @markpreeschlresto Right on Brother... excellent choice! You're going to love the Goliath! Good luck out on the water... I'm looking forward to seeing you break the record and set the bar even higher! Tight lines!

    -John

  • Whoooo Buddy!.....Dash

  • That was A great catch there. The Berkley Trilene XL line is very strong lol I was trolling with a deep diver rapala down at about 15 feet with Trilene XL 6pnd and hit a 21 inch Bass and for a second i thought i was stuck on a rock, i was pulling really hard on it and pulling the boat towards the fish also. I was pulling and pulling, took a few seconds for a break and noticed my line was zigg zagging and im like OH YEAH!!! Again, Nice catch there man.

  • Wow! Nice landing of that beast. I think I know what I'm going to put on my Xmas wishlist for a fishing rod. haha

  • Come on down and my brother and I can take you up and get you into some good fish!! Look forward to seeing you in person.

  • John, You and I need to go out fishing and see if we can break that record! Very nice fish bro. You are the man!!

  • @badvoodoodaddy1 Thanks Brother! Count me in man... I think we can take it! Even if we don't, it'll be fun trying, eh? ;-)

P.S. I might be heading down your way before long. Up for some fishin'?

  • hold on how the heck did i not notice this video ?? nice work

  • @flatblack300zx Thanks man! Good times for sure!

  • Nice job John! Dind you know that bringing a net along is bad luck...lol

  • @Ebiczebulanious I've heard that, lol ;-) Thanks my friend!

  • Man what a fish, thats awesome! I have a Penn Long Beach 60 that was given to me in 1982 and it was ten or so years old when I got it. I still use it today for saltwater and big cats. Great video my friend.

  • Holy crap what a catch John.....congrats on the new world record fish : ]

  • @outdoorkid87 Thanks Hunter! Sure was a fun day out on the water man! Tight lines buddy!

  • cool

  • awesome man!

  • @socalbassboy Thanks man!

  • @intenseangler where was this fishing at

  • Dude my trip was awesome! Thanks for askin. We planned on doing 42 miles in 2 days but some of the guys just packed too much. We completed 37 miles. Definitely some advantages to ultra light packing. We got to this rocky land slide area at the end of the second day, all the guys with heavy packs groaned as we got into it, I was running and jumping from rock to rock like a little kid! That trip was amazing, we climbed 2200 ft and saw some of the best views I've ever seen! Can't wait to do it aga

  • @TheOutdoorBasics Right on Brother! Glad you had a good time! I can just see you out there now jumping around those rocks while everyone else was weighed down by heavy packs lol. Bet you have a couple of the guys rethinking some of their gear now hehe ;-) Take care Alex.....

  • Awesome video. Lots of fun. Congrats on landing that monster with lightweight gear!

  • @GunsKnivesSurvival Thanks Will! It sure was a fun day out on the water... good memories!

  • Hi John, Big Big Big congratulations my friend! I have to tell you, I have never seen someone more happy to land a carp. Of course I've never seen someone land any fish that large with a toy fishing pole either.. : ) LOL's All kidding aside, thanks for the amazing video, it certainly was an "edge of the seat" thrill ride! I checked out the website too and was amazed by their fair prices. I hope you get the prize for this and they should throw in another one too for the awesome demo.. : )

  • @saradreaming Hey there Ms. Dreaming :-) I did get a little excited there didn't I? (it's that guy "intenseangler"... he does that every time I take him fishin' hehe). Thanks for coming along for the "thrill ride" my friend ;-)

  • Jaw Is on the floor my friend! I'm planning on buying one if those pen rods in the very near future. Congrats on your world record!!

  • @TheOutdoorBasics Thank Alex, I really appreciate that brother! And yeah, those little rods are perfect for stashing in the pack for some backpacking fishing. Speaking of backpacking... how was your trip man? I've been looking forward to hearing about it... hope you had a blast!

  • Dude ! thats amazing !

  • @Cragdwella Thanks Bro! It sure was a blast, I'll tell ya that! I've been very fortunate to have hooked and landed bigger fish, but doing it on that micro-light tackle and knowing the whole time that I had a potentially record breaking fish on was enough to get the old blood pumping! ;-)

  • a few years back i got a 30 pound salmon on 8 pound test and i thought that was amazing but a 20 pounder on 4 pound test with an ultralight rod is freakin crazy! very awesome vid and congrats on the catch! i tried to eat one of those when i was in the scouts years and years ago and i would never recommend it tasted like mud/dirt even drowned in hot sauce it just made it taste worse!

  • @Killahofosho Wow Bro! A 30 pound salmon on 8lb test had to have been an epic fight man! Bet you'll never forget that... congrats!

  • @intenseangler dude i was bragging while i was landing the catch, i kept yelling out while i was fighting it ( I can't believe i got this on 8 pound test)! seriously tho i think your fight was a bit tougher i fly fish with 2-4 pound test and i know how easy that small line snaps and with no net seriously congrats!

  • Nice video my friend. Someday I may send you a message to say come fish my stream, best fishing around. Need to do what I have too now, because it is my duty and for what I am here for. You only have one Mama. I will have the resources to do my thing, oneday. I really enjoy your channel and your friendship here. You take care my friend and look forward to your videos. You do some neat stuff and that was a great fish, I will take it as the world record, LOL. Take care buddy and have a great day.

  • @ewtoutdoors Thank you Ed, I really appreciate your kind words. And I understand exactly where you are coming from my friend... family comes first. We have to stand beside each other through all of the challenges that life throws our way. You are a good man and I feel fortunate to count you as a friend. Very best wishes to you and yours.... and I will be looking forward to the day when I get to fish that stream with you buddy :-)

  • now that's how you catch a fish! bloody well done!

  • @vanrooyendavid Thank you very much kind Sir! Although I think the fish caught me ;-0 I couldn't stop smiling for hours after that fun battle :-)

    Tight lines!

  • Amazing. Congratulations. Fantastic video. I was grinning the whole time. Thanks for a great video.

  • @rainbowhiker Thank you my friend! I tend to get a little excited sometimes when I'm fishing (that "intenseangler" thing lol). I had so much fun out there that day... definitely an experience to remember :-)

  • Whale - there it blows!

And I thought Captain Ahab had a wooden leg? :o)

    Congrats to a champion!

  • @steintanz Hahaha!! Good one Tim!

And thank you very much for the congrats kind Sir! :-)

  • Amazing! You should get some kind of reward or cut from the company because you just made me and a lot of other people want that rod for backpacking!

  • That's what I call a Carp!! Yeehaaaaaaaaaaa! :D

  • @mutschgi59 Thanks man! She was a beauty for sure! :-)

  • im still waiting for mine to arrive but as for the other rob from ps , I ordered is monday morning by phone, it arrived thursdat morning. awesome rod and real combo. I had one spooled with 2lb ultra soft maxima and the extra spool with 4lb same stuff. Congadulations John. I caught such a carp years ago on my Kencore sp3 3' u/l rod. fought it over 30 min and the hook pulled out trying to shore it.

  • Congrats to you John! A BIG Thank you to the Mrs. as well for capturing it on film & making history! So far you have the BIGGEST fish for 2011 prize which is a cool crisp $100.00 bill. However, you may just have put a flame under all the rest of the Pen Fishing Rod Pro Staffers butts as the emails are coming in asking for specifics & assuring me that if you broke the first record, that one day in the not too distant future, they will break your record! There's 2 months left in '11 Good Luck! :)

  • wow, great job man. i have the same pen rod, didnt know you could catch such a large carp with it!

  • @Gamermatt99 Thanks Matt! Yeah, these rods can handle some pretty decent fish, that's for sure! My favorite part is that I can turn right around and catch trout or panfish and the action is still just as sensitive :-)

  • That's some BIG ASS FISH brother! Good going man!

  • @dmacken11 She wasn't too bad, was she buddy? ;-) I'm hoping to get out and catch her big sister this weekend ;-0

Good to see ya around my friend... hope life is treating you well :-)

  • Sick video! Nice to watch, well guess the pen rod is for real! Looks like that was so much fun...I will give striped bass fishing a go soon!

  • @ihikearoundcom Thanks Bro! Yeah, this was definitely a blast man! Gotta love days on the water like this, eh? :-) Have fun with those stripes my friend... now that's some fun!

  • Nice fish! thanks for the great video. i am going to have to look into getting one of those pen rods now :)

  • @woodscraftoutdoors Thanks man, I really appreciate that! And yeah, that little rod handled like a dream... one of the funnest ultralight battles I've ever had for sure! Take care my friend!

  • glad you got it brother! keep up the good work! nothing like ultra light fishing for big fish! we dont have to many carp around here but i take my 4 foot ugly stick with shakepear reel and 3lb test and when you hook up with a good 5 or 6 pound channel cat you know it! GREAT JOB MY FRIEND!

  • @ohioriverfisherman94 Thanks alot my Brother! Gotta love those smokin' runs on light tackle! I know what ya mean about those cats man... they're in a league of their own! Tight lines my friend!

  • Amazing you were able to bring that it with such a light weight set up, and a telescoping pole to boot Cool John

  • @medicjimr Thanks Jim! I can't tell you how much fun that was buddy! :-)

  • @kirisilvermane Thank you very much Neil! Your comment just further goes to show what an excellent example of a fine sportsman you are my friend! Consider the ball back in your court now... I'm looking forward to seeing your next beautiful record carp! :-)

    Tight Lines!

  • @intenseangler we are all part of the same brotherhood now! Youve set the bar nice and high and joined the pro's of the pen fishing rod team! what can i say? You Da MAN! LOL!

dont sit on your laurels though...im gonna get ya...oh yeah..im gonna get ya! hehehehe

we aint close to what this kit can handle yet..i think 25,28 or 30 wouldnt be off the cards given the right choice of venue and circumstance. my only problem now is the winter is drawing and the old carp will be getting lazy :(

  • Holy Cow Bro! What an awesome feat! Congrats. Favorited.

  • Holy Cow Bro!! What an awesome feat! Congrats. Favorited.

  • @briargoatkilla Thanks Brother!!

  • What was the line weight???

  • @longestlongshot12 I was using 4lb mono with a 3lb leader (fly line tippet).

  • Cool, way to go John! Congrats! I just kept thinking… wait till that fish sees the John and the boat… Can’t you grab them by the lower jaw like ya do with Bass?

  • @Woodenarrows Thanks Jim my friend! I still can't believe I got that big old girl in the boat without a net! I don't grab bigger fish like this one by the jaw because it can potentially injure the fish... I try to be as gentle as possible with them so that they can give someone else the same pleasure they gave me :-)

  • Dang! Nicely played..lol For a little while I thought you were yanking our chain, but when I got that first look at your fish, I was amazed. It shows how good of a fisherman you are. I get all excited..lol Really congrats on the fish and the record. Good to know those little pen style rods really work.

  • @rondygal Thank you very much my friend! I was a bit excited too! (if ya couldn't tell lol).

  • Wow. There's just something dangerous about hearing the words "carp" and "ultra-lite" in the same video! No need to tell you what those musk oxen pull like. I'll admit I skipped forward several times; but got the highlights and offer a big congrats for getting that monster in and weighed.

  • @Winkiedoodles Thank you Don! I agree... if battling a big carp on ultralight tackle doesn't get your blood pumping, then nothin' will, eh? ;-) No worries on skipping through the video... I admit I got carried away posting most of the fight, but you know how us fishermen like our braggin' rights, lol. Thanks again my friend!

  • Awesome dude! Congratulations Brother, That was a hog of a fish....That mini pen rod did great !!!!!!!! :]

  • @meatmangary Thanks Gary! I didn't realize she was quite that big at first, but once I got a good glimpse of her I knew I had a solid shot at breaking the record with this fish. I was sure sweating not having a net though! Whew! :-)

  • Wooooooohoooooo!!!!!! That was Intense :o) Great catch John buddy! That took a while! I was waiting for that rod to snap...hehe! Great show!

  • @Ggreenvideos Thanks Brother! That was definitely one INTENSE battle man! That little rod handled like a champ! I'm still shaking from the fight hehe ;-0
