  • one of my Vienna Teng favorites. I also love Gravity, Eric's Song, Mission Street--Mission Street because I love SF Bay Area and miss it so much.

  • This is just unbelievebly beautiful!

  • this song kills! so beautiful

  • You know, regardless of whether this song is about a voice in Vienna Teng's head or a Greek myth, it's an amazing piece of art.

  • THIS SONG IS NOT ABOUT THE MEDEA MYTH!

It's about a Voice in Vienna's head who talks to her, oddly enough, called Medea... this song is from Vienna's Medea's point of view.

Vienna descries this 'person' in her head to 'not always have her best interests in mind'... THAT is what this song is about!

Thumbs up so everyone can see!

  • @FantasiesGhost I'm glad to know what the song ORIGINALLY meant as well, but now that it's publicized it's no longer Vienna's song--it's all of ours, with our interpretations, and if I think it's about the Media myth, then it now is--for me. You get me?

  • I love haunting songs about myths and legends and I'm so glad I stumbled on this. This gives me chills listening to it

  • I found out about Vienna Teng when I was in high school.... through an AMV. Lullaby for a Stormy Night. I've since been to one of her concerts and bought two albums.

    So bite me. =)

  • @KitsuneYoukai42490 I see you. >>;

  • she"s popular in my Circle

  • This makes me shiver.

  • @KitchenKiller95 She kills her children as the ultimate revenge against her husband. See, from Aegeus she learns that the worst thing she could do to a man was take away his children. In order to destroy Jason completely, she destroys the thing he loves most- his own sons. But she loves them too, and so the act is self-destructive. That's the tragedy of Medea- in destroying Jason, she destroys herself.

  • @tangent94 True. I was also told that Medea didn't want her sons to grow up as slaves, which is what they would have been.

  • @tangent94 I don't recall this paart of the legend....... they had children?

  • Amazing song, amazing lyrics, amazing singer.

  • seven people accidentally hit dislike, sad

  • Six people aren't aware of what they've become.

  • I love this song!

  • this one is so powerful and beautiful and haunting! <3

  • I found her while looking for Chinese-themed music at the Prelinger Archive, for a Guild Wars video I was making about the "Canthan"/Chinese New Year.

  • Vienna Teng explains the lyrics of My Medea in the first few minutes of this video. :) youtube.com/watch?v=DSQbDdQbUWg

  • does anyone know what the lyrics are about? is it about medea in the Greek mythology?

  • @sallionay i've read a bit about this song on other forums and found that it is about medea in a metaphorical sense. as you might know, medea killed her two children out of revenge against Jason, her ex-husband. medea, in this song, represents a "dark side" of an indiviual who is a threat to the good or innocent side of said individual. the person basically is succumbing to her evil nature etc. etc....

  • @hiperson641

thank you very much! yeah I had to know this for my greek mythology work in school ;)

  • I love this song, and picture. Whenever I look at it for a few moments it seems like the shadow is moving.

  • My God I love this song.

  • For you, I'd burn the length and breadth of sky.

  • lyric's anyone?

  • This is my one and only favorite song of Vienna's even though she has a magnificent voice and beautiful songs. Dx

  • does anyone knows where i can get the chords of this beautiful song?

  • ... @ Deathbychoco...etc and cagal...

read Argonautica and then Medea... and you'll finally have an idea what this is about

  • this song got me into Vienna

and caused her to be my inspiration.

  • I cry out for this beautiful song.

  • makes me think of this really dark version of repunzel i read called zel. about a woman who's obsessed with her adopted (stolen technically) daughter. and would do anything to keep her for herself. lock her away, hurt her, destroy her basically.

  • @cagalli85 whats the book called it sounds familiar?

  • @DeathByChocolate1995 The book is called Zel and it's written by Donna Jo Napoli (i think i spelled that correctly.)

  • this song scares me!! but i love it =s

  • her albums and songs are available through amazon.com

  • Totally! We could abbreviate it "FMAMV" or something. :P

And imagine my surprise, for another commenter similarly named "Itachilover1990"

    (it was something like that...)

I should look that up.. :D

  • This is my favorite Vienna song ever. But what is it reffering to?

  • @Rilan11 It probably originated from original feelings, but some of it can be explained through the Greek myths.

  • @Rilan11 Medea from the greek mythology Jason and the argonauts killed her two sons to get back at Jason...so I think Vienna Teng is singing about a self-destructive woman

  • Good singers like Vienna aren't well known because they don't want to sell out. They prefer loyal fans and to make music that comes from the heart.

  • That should be on Viva*.*

  • love those lyrics. Love her voice. <3

  • You are so right the original is the best

  • @PrincessDaisyFloral Vienna is actually pretty well known

  • I love the picture, where did you find it?

  • @itachilovr1990

We're here for Vienna Teng's Music, not the pic used by the person who posted this up.

    Kudos to you RinOtonashi!

  • @itachilovr1990 there is nothing wrong with her nose, and you are a horrible, disgusting person. go kill yourself.

  • beautiful song..

  • this song is so beautiful, I can't stop thinking about it

  • I found out about her by my teacher!!!! XD

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's either about that or about somebody who'se very good at manipulating people.

  • I LOVE the immagery in this song; What I hear is the story of a lovelorn woman who has learned to keep the weaker and more vulnerable parts of herself hidden, in an emotional "Labrynth", only realizing too late how much it's hurt those she loves. And so she feels undeserving of life.

  • @simonimyours Agreed! Very nice interpretation.

  • This is an awesome song! Thanks for posting it. Her "city hall" was my favorite but i love this song now.

  • I'm going to write a paper on this song and Euripides' play. It should be a lot of fun. Medea is my all time fave by Euripides, who is my all time fave Greek writer.

  • I wrote a paper on 'Medea' by Euripides - that's how I found this song :D he's my favourite writer of tragedy, too ^^ and of course Medea is also my favourite tragedy ;D

  • @Detoracia

This is amazingly coincidental as I share your circumstances.

  • @Detoracia is this song based on that story?

  • @phoenixkh93 I'm not sure. Vienna herself tells in a video (which is also here on youtube) that "Medea" is a bad part of her - could be that she has named this bad part after the mythological figure Medea - rather fitting I'd say, as Medea in Greek mythology not only kills her own brother (to help Jason get the Golden Fleece) but also her own children to get revenge over Jason. It's not impossible that Vienna is inspired by the story of Medea :)

  • AMV's take talent to make and are a way for a people to express themselves, I find many gorgeously talented singers and songs through AMV's there is not a thing wrong with them

  • the only reason i know about vienna teng is through amvs.

  • This is my favourite song of hers. I love the piano, especially at the beginning -- it always makes me think of a web being spun for some reason ...

and yes, I'm rather sick of shoddy anime videos being put to such a lovely song as well ... *is shot*

  • I discovered this song while making a large assignment in December (about Medea ;D) - now she's an absolute favourite! :D

  • Breathtaking and heartmelting!

  • i've been a fan of hers since i first heard "The Tower". she's amazing

  • Her voice is so beautiful... I've never heard such a thing..

  • I know!! :)

  • This is my favorite song by Vienna.

    It's so ethereal, I love it<3

  • @StateOfGrace my second favorite...I really like it. It's very depressing, though

  • I say her perform on TV a few years ago- she covered John Denver's "Annie's Song" and I have been dying to get a copy of it ever since. Any ideas?

  • Final Fantasy AMV and Star Trek MV.

You're sick of it? Why? It's not like it's insulting to her music. Hell, it promotes her. It's a /good/ thing. Act like it.

Anyway, beautiful song. Beautiful voice. Beautiful woman. I love Vienna Teng.

  • Seriously? I mean I don't mind the AMV's but let's be honest, for someone who's not a fan it takes away from the song. Sometimes you just want the music, and it doesn't need all the visuals.

  • I think you're right. I got to know Vienna Tang via an AMV, and both my favorite bands as well.

  • Yeah I found Vienna Teng through AMV's too. :)

I agree they don't generally showcase her music as much as video, so they're not great for just listening to her. But judging by the comments on this video, a lot of people discovered Vienna Teng because of them, so if I were her I wouldn't mind. :)

  • I found about Vienna Teng thru an AMV for Fullmetal Alchemist. I used to be into that...

Forgove me, but at least AMVs have Vienna Teng's support. She has clearly referenced that her musioc is common enough used for AMVs. I beleive she told a live audience this, though express permition wasn't given, she was at least aware of it. On the other hand, a static frame of a lady with red earrings (not knocking the picture, it looks nice) and her song isn't covered, as far as I am aware.

  • @tachikomas yea, i heard her through an FMA amv too. It was one for Eric's song (Sacred Simplicity). I fell in love with her music after that.

  • @tachikomas was it a good amv? if it was send me the link please :)

    xxx

  • @tachikomas I see no difference between having just a picture and an amv...

  • ...I think I've fallen in love with this song.

  • Thanks for the upload!!!

though I have to disagree on one point - hearing Vienna live tops her CD recordings any day. The life she breathes into her performances can't be matched by even the official version of the song. :D

  • Amen.

  • And it's the opposite for most artists

  • I know! :D It's one of the reasons I love her so much....

  • No, I adore the pic with this song, the young woman in the picture has this look of tormenting emotions on her face which just fits the song and the Medea story. Also I love the earing, it gives her class and power.

  • You souldnt be sick of AMVs! If it werent for them, I'm sure half of the Vienna Teng fans wouldnt know she even existed. I myself discovered her through a Fruits Basket video using her Lullabye for a Stormy Night when I was in 9th grade or so.

Five years and finally saw her last week! >=D

  • I found a Vienna Teng cd in my library. >_>

  • About the Fruits Basket AMV - same here =D

  • I agree! I found out about this wonderful artist on a Naruto AMV a long time ago. I've got bored by Naruto now, but I could NEVER get tired of listening to this song!

Sorry for the bad english ^^"

  • This song reminds me of The Labrynth

  • luv this song!

  • exactly^^ the original version is the vest

love all of her songs, and thanks for uploading this CD version :)

  • I love this! I've never heard of Vienna Tang before. I found her through A Lucian/Sonja video, like so many others xL

  • her music is very beautiful yes, i discovered her a few weeks ago through a Lucian/Sonja tribute vid.

  • I found it in the same way ;-) It's very beautiful...

  • me too beautiful song, sad but so beautiful

  • Her music is beautiful. It's simple, and I love how all her piano songs, have a melancholy undertone.

  • wow i have been looking for a version like this for ages, the live versiona have too much talk and not that good sound quality and sure AMVs are good and all but give the song some more credit. thanks for the upload

  • can't find this song ANYWHERE, you know where I can download it? I've looked for Vienna Teng in several stores, but can't find her any places. And this song i so beautiful!

  • J'ai découvert Vienna avec cette chanson...

    J'adore tout simplement !

I discovered Vienna with this song ...

    I love simply!

  • SUCH a wonderful song.

Her voice is like nothing ive ever heard before.

    so unique

    beautiful

  • I first hear Vienna sing this song live...oh my...she sang in a little church in Montclair NJ...I can't not wait to hear her again live...her voice is that of an angle

  • it's official. i love this song!^_^

  • It's so nice that there are finally people like her coming into the music industry that actually sing correctly. They don't do that pop nasaly thing that just sounds awful... I'm fourteen years old, and I find that disgusting sounding.

    This woman inspires me.

  • This picture makes perfect sense!

THis song is about having an entity in your mind... a beautiful and powerful one. But one without your best interest. =] the picture is perfect!

  • I believe it's actually based on the legend of Medea, who killed her own children to get revenge on Jason.

  • She said she based it on a person (not sure if that is the best word) in her mind. Maybe it's both, but she said basically what porcupine said.

  • she said it was about this voice she hears in her head who is not "a nice voice with my best interests at heart" just watch the live version of this and she talks about it
