Wasn't so sure about it at first, but I LOVE it! 40+ mpg easy, averaging 44mpg right now. It's comfortable, sorta sporty, and has features you'd expect on a luxury car. All for under $16,000. Great safety ratings and all around awesome reviews. I NEVER thought I'd drive a car (always had Jeeps or big trucks), but this thing rocks. Definitely keeping the Jeep tho!
I'm going to keep my 4x4 F150, but I am looking at these and Hyundai Accents and Elantras to see if I can save some money on gas.at 40 MPG highway, it just about pays for itself.
@willie33040 It's not about your choice, but your prejudice. You said it wasn't worth it in the long run, that does explicit ignorance since you do not know if it is worth or not for a fact. It gets about 40 mpg on the highway which is a LOT better than the Focus or other small cars that should be getting better gas mileage than they do. The mpg is the main reason I'd be interested in this car.

Ha, love comments like yours! The engine in the US Fiesta (and almost all 'US' versions of Euro cars) is the biggest that they sell in Europe - some Fiesta's over here have 1.25s, the 1.6 is the 'big' engine! It's a different driving style to what you guys are used to - revs up and thrash it!
@LoAfXD is 'stfu' a word? Your original comment was so horribly written that I am guessing you're looking for a bottom-of-the-barrel job. Well my friend, I wish you good tidings.

Just picked mine up yesterday (stateside). It doesn't have great acceleration, but man, is it fun to drive! The 5 speed manual is smoother than a shot of Patrone Silver, the steering is light and nimble like a gay grass-hopper, and the wheels stick to the road like a dead prostitute. Also, Sync is pretty awesome. So far, I'm lovin it!
When is this car coming over to America? I really want this car I saw the commercial for it last night and just thought it was extremely cute so I went on the Ford site and looked up some things about the car and I'm pleased and basically what I'm looking for. I like the fact that it's a reasonable priced car below 18,000 not including tax and all that but I have a feeling it'll be a great first car for me.
Looks Great!! My only concern is that i love those circular fog lamps but in the FordUSA website they have pics of the car with those fog lamps that look like an airvent or something i think it doesnt fit the fiesta at all the circular ones shown in this video are the one that looks cool. I wish to trade my Suzuki for this one when it comes out, it looks really nice and the fuel economy is terrific this car should be in everyones list if one is planning to buy a subcompact.
"Remember as opposed to Americans, cars are mostly looked at as an A to B form of transportation in most other parts of the world."
Honestly, such a ridiculous thing to say. I'm a Canadian living in Germany and I can tell you people here in Europe definitely have as much passion for cars, and it helps when they have amazing roads to drive on. Also if you go to Japan or Hong Kong where people don't have huge houses, guess how they like to stand out and make themselves unique?
@matt12step Exactly, which is the reason why Europe and Japan are the leaders in luxury and supercars. Look at the Maybachs, Rolls Royce, Ferrari's, Lamboghinis, Lexus. etc etc.
I have a Focus 2010, it is the european model. I really love this car/ For me it has better interior quality, suspension and price than a Civic and Corrolla. The fuel economy is good. For me, it was my best choice
I have been trying to find this out myself. It makes NO sense why they are promoting the crap out of what is essentially an economy car and NEVER mention fuel consumption. Stupid!
The 1.6 cvvt 120hp engine can go up to 40 mpg, but in europe fiestas are being sold with different engines that get better mpg and even a few wngines that can actually go faster let's say from 40mph to 70mph in 3º gear, and so on in 4º and 5º.

I like it! I had a Festiva in 1988 and loved it - it has a hatchback with a tall profile, so you could haul lost of large stuff in it. And very dependable. I'm not defined by a car, and haved the Eurpoean attitude of practicality and getting point a to point b without spending a fortune.
It's too bad most Americans don't have the same view on vehicles like you. I feel the same way. Safe, dependable, good looking, good driving, and practical. That's all we all need. Not these massive 4x4 trucks and SUVs to tote 1 or 2 people in. Just makes Americans look like ignorant rednecks, sorry to say.
@NJRocks281 They most certainly are not the same. First of all, the ratio of cars to big trucks is much higher in the US than Europe because of higher fuel costs. Secondly, there are far many more small cars on the road in Europe than here, not to mention they have more small car choices AND the quality and content of their small cars tends to be better than US models. Ford is changing that with the Fiesta. European trends are catching on in the US. Look at the evolution of Cadillac over 20yrs.
Nonsense, small cars is not a "European trend". All cars everywhere were bigger 20 years ago. And modern American SUV's get 25+ miles to the gallon. Just because we have more SUV's doesn't mean they are ahead of us. The new giant Ford Expedition gets over 25 miles to the gallon.
@NJRocks281 It's hard to argue with you when you make stuff up. European cars were bigger 20yrs ago? FALSE. American vehicles have become more fuel efficient? That's only true of large trucks and SUVs. American cars are actaully more fuel thirsty now than they were 20yrs ago and that's a fact. Read the data. The '10 Civic sucks down more gas than '90 Civic. Chevy's Aveo is more thirsty than the Metro, etc etc. Can't think of 1 full-size truck or SUV rated @ 25mpg. Anyway, 25mpg is BAD in Europe.
I liked your comment about old cars. Remember the old CRX and diesel Golfs? Anyway, the reason people buy large SUV's is because it is safer to be in a larger car. However, you wouldn't need a large car to take impacts better if there were just a bunch of Fiestas and other similar cars driving around. Somewhere along the line, some asshole decided that they would buy a huge car to get a safety advantage at the expense of everyone else and now it has turned into the status quo.
@CorvetteRacingFan Yup yup. If it were a bunch of Fiestas, Accents, Aveos, Fits, Yaris on the road, people wouldn't feel the need to go out and buy some huge hulking vehicle which is totally excessive for their needs... except for guys who feel the need to prove their masculinity. That in itself is highly questionable, but a whole other ball of wax. If they sold small cars in the US that were highly comfortable, quiet, and available with upscale features, I think they'd sell in much higher vol.
I suspect that when a person in a giant Hummer hits another person in a giant Hummer, they aren't any safer than if two Fiestas would collide. Actually they are probably less safe because more energy must be dissipated. Sure you have a heavier car with larger crumple zones and more momentum but that only comes in handy when there are Smart cars bouncing off of your hood (the case when you are the asshole trying to get a safety advantage at the expense of others).
@CorvetteRacingFan I see your point and agree. I'm not of the physics behind it all, but I can't imagine the forces are any less if you're in a big heavy vehicle and collide with another big heavy vehicle.
Being upscale isn't even the whole problem. Fiesta has an optional moonroof but there isn't even a coupe or 3 door option. Same with most other companies. And where is the economy advantage? Why is it that a Civic gets better gas mileage than a Fit? Why is it that an Aveo only gets 2 mpg better on the highway than a Malibu. Why does a car as heavy as a Golf TDI still manage to pull of averages above 40 mpg but much smaller gasoline cars can't even come close and why is the Polo not sold here?
@CorvetteRacingFan That is starting to change, I'm happy to say. Hyundai's new line of gas direct injection engines are more economical and more powerful than anything else in their class. The 2.4L produces 200hp and gets 35mpg. The new GDI engine in the upcoming Accent will get around 40mpg and I believe makes 140hp from only 1.6L.
I think this is strictly an American problem. Everyone else's Honda CRZ gets 50 to 60.Ours gets mid 30's. Europe's Smart diesel gets around 85 mpg. Our gasoline one gets mid 30's. There are countless cars in Europe that get MPG's in the 50's, 60's, and 70's. One of them is their diesel Fiesta. I know that their ratings tend to be higher than ours (like a scirocco tdi that gets 53 in Europe gets like 44 here) but still. Take 10 mpg off any of these cars and they are still great.
@palebeachbum In the days of moms driving 4-8 kids to practices most of which have gear to haul along an SUV is the better choice. In addition when you have people hauling boats, landscaping tools and what not a ford fiesta doesn't cut it. Like it or not Americans have much different needs than europe because it's a totally different setting. Europe is very urban and America is very rural.
@cherishlife12 Oh this is very true. I agree. But it just seems a silly waste to drive something that gets 10-15mpg in real world driving just so a person can tow a boat a few times a year. If someone is in a profession that requires a big truck, like a landscaper, contractor, etc, then it makes sense to drive such a vehicle. I'm talking about the people who drive these things for commuting to work, which accounts for most of their driving.
@palebeachbumlol, just because we don't want to drive a itty bitty car to SAVE the environment. cough cough, doesn't make us ignorant rednecks. Try getting my family of 6 in this little thing before you start judging. Maybe you can ride a bike and make up for my extra exhaust.
@PCTechView A big family is one thing, but rarely is this the case. If someone's got the needs for a big vehicle, then go for it. Otherwise, it's just overkill.
@palebeachbum I've had my 2000 Ranger since it was new it has never been in a shop other than for new brakes, new battery, new battery clamps, or oil changes and it still runs great but I just want something with better mpg's so I getting a Fiesta SEL
Yeah same here, l love the fiesta and new focus, they get so much gas, theyre good looking vehicles with alot of fucking accessories for the price and its sad cause my gf wants a big fucking suv or truck cause she thinks they look cool...maybe..but u cant look cool pulling into a gas station evry 4 blocks or so
@stop620 Ha, I hear ya! I couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous it was when I last filled the tank in my old Volvo and it cost $72. My next vehicle purchase will most likely be either the new Hyundai Accent or Elantra. Nice style, low price, good quality, insane gas mileage. I love the new Focus a lot, but it gets too pricey for my blood once you start adding features I'd want in the car.

@palebeachbum
Yeah, it is just establishing a status quo of what is considered big. A Camry is huge in Europe. Even a Corolla is. Not so much here.

@palebeachbum

What else do you know about those Hyundai engines? That 2.4 in a lighter version of the Genesis would be pretty cool.

Europe is very urban and America is very rural.
cherishlife12 1 year ago

PCTechView 1 year ago
@PCTechView A big family is one thing, but rarely is this the case. If someone's got the needs for a big vehicle, then go for it. Otherwise, it's just overkill.

@palebeachbum I've had my 2000 Ranger since it was new it has never been in a shop other than for new brakes, new battery, new battery clamps, or oil changes and it still runs great but I just want something with better mpg's so I getting a Fiesta SEL
wiccanmoonman 10 months ago
Yeah same here, l love the fiesta and new focus, they get so much gas, theyre good looking vehicles with alot of fucking accessories for the price and its sad cause my gf wants a big fucking suv or truck cause she thinks they look cool...maybe..but u cant look cool pulling into a gas station evry 4 blocks or so
stop620 9 months ago 4
@stop620 Ha, I hear ya! I couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous it was when I last filled the tank in my old Volvo and it cost $72. My next vehicle purchase will most likely be either the new Hyundai Accent or Elantra. Nice style, low price, good quality, insane gas mileage. I love the new Focus a lot, but it gets too pricey for my blood once you start adding features I'd want in the car.

@palebeachbum Gotta admit though the Escape Hybrid looks pretty cool and is good on gas.
