well, has lucy ever done shots?if so,do you prefer the pump?im 15 years old, diabetic since 12,and always been on shots but i have several hypos, and im considering a pump but im not sure...any advice?
@Maayyytee We did shots for 3 months before starting the pump. We love the pump. No more shots and we have much, much better control of her blood sugar. I highly recommend it!
@EmilyofREL Thanks! She was diagnosed when she was only 13 months old. She's 2 years and 4 months old now and doing really, really well. Good luck to you too!
I have a 9 month old type 1 diabetic diagnosed 1 week ago where did you get that big pink box from I really need something like that for her supplies.
@Tiera20100 The pink box came from Walmart...in the craft department with beads and things. It works really well for organizing the essentials. I'm so sorry that your baby girl was diagnosed with diabetes too. Good luck to you and if you ever need advice or have questions, just let me know!
@LittleLucysLife Thanks so much I will look today is the accu chek multiclix a good lancing device because with the one touch i have it on the lowest setting and it still goes in to deep and she cry even if it is on her finger or toe so they told me i could do her heel. Does that meter give very accurate readings because i got one in the bag of hope but never used it.
@Tiera20100 I really like the accu chek multiclix. We've used it from day 1 and Lucy's never cried once. We use the Aviva and I really like it. The test strips are so much easier to handle. They're even large enough that Lucy can put them in herself. They also don't seem to require as much blood so we're wasting fewer strips on "not enough blood" errors. We used a One Touch ultra for a little while, but ended up switching back to the Aviva because the test strips are so much easier to handle.
You might want to check into something called Ethyl Chloride... it will numb the area for about 5 minutes during normal site changes. I am 30 years old and use it at every site change... helps tons! Haven't tried CGM yet because the needle freaks me out, too. And it's really expensive... Would love to talk to you sometime... I was 2 1/2 when I was diagnosed, so... BTW, your daughter is adorable!
@tashainjena@tashainjena Thanks! I haven't heard of Ethyl Chloride before...I'll look into it. Thankfully Lucy does pretty well with the site changes...especially if she is distracted by something. And, yeah, the CGM needles freak me out too. My husband has done the sensor changes so far....and I plan to keep it that way for as long as possible.. And yeah, it's expensive...even with insurance it's still expensive. But I can't imagine our lives without that information. It's so worth it!
@BlisfullySweet I don't remember it being a very long wait. Medtronic has always gotten our supplies to us really quickly. Maybe your insurance company is slowing things down? Who knows. I hope your pump comes soon though! You'll love it. :)
Yeah, we plan to get the Precision Xtra very soon. Our diabetes educator told us about it at diagnosis and I've read about it in the pink panther "Understanding Diabetes" book. I just wish the test strips weren't so expensive! Now that we're 8 months into our Diabetes journey, I feel like things are finally beginning to calm down enough to read up on all our options and figure out what is going to work best for Lucy.
Terrific overview. You may want to get a meter and strips that tests for blood ketones (Precision Xtra or NovaMax Plus) - blood ketones are more timely -urine ketones are hours old information. I'm not sure why pediatric endocrinologists/diabetes teams so often fail to share this with families. It will require prescription for reimbursement and most pharmacies don't typically carry the blood ketone strips in stock - perhaps because they are so expensive.
thats much stuff. she have the same lancing device as me ( accu chek multiclix ) poor lucy

is the gluecagon case pick

@SammytheGymnast Not sure what your question is. If you're asking if the Glucagon case is pink then the answer is no. It's red.
