@budds He's pulling away from the mic whenever he sings a higher note. Just in the way you see other singers pull the mic away from their mouths whenever they approach a high note. If he didn't pull away from the mic the sound would be distorted, plus feedback could occur on long high notes.

Honestly, with hearing him live recently. I think his vocals have gotten better. He's been sounding really good lately. Maybe he's taking vocal lessons, or someone is showing him better technique.
