It's about Paul English, end of story! Tom Paul had a studio to record The Outlaw album in, but felt Waylon with his ounce every few days cocaine habit. He would say Waylon was stealing from him, I hate Tom Paul the worst and most out of place on the album and for calling Waylon a cheat. Didn't hear much of him before or after they shook him off there coat tails... lol
WHEN WAYLON PLAYED OTHERS SONGS THEY BECAME HIS , THEY WAY
HE DID BILLY JO SHAVERS SONGS ON THE HONKY DONK HEROES ALBUM. HE DID UM WAYLON STYLE. NOT KNOCKEN BILLY JO SHAVERS, HE'S GREAT I'M SURE HE WAS PROUD TO HAVE WAYLON SINGING HIS SONGS,
This song was orginaly done by Willie about his drummer that's a fact however Waylons cover is way better but I'm a big Waylon fan and so that's just my opinion we miss ya Hoss
@daleb85 HE WROTE IT ABOUT HIMSELF AND TOM PAUL GLASER OR HOW EVERY YOU SPELL IT> ATLEAST THATS WHAT WAS TOLD TO ME FOR YEARS AND SAW WILLIE IN CONCERT 2MONTHS AGO AND THATS WHAT HE SAID
@daleb85 Willie Nelson says it was about TomPaul Glaser. Actualy he saied it several times. Back in the day Willie, Waylon and TomPaul were friends even before doing Wanted The Outlaws album....they did the album BECAUSE they were friends.
@daleb85 YEAH, funny in Milwaukee they thought suspicious long hairs. Didn't even care about the loaded gun in his carry on, was legal still then. Willie's always been true to his band, just like Waylon!
Thanks for the post. No doubt it is a rare version. Where and when did Waylon sing this version of me and Paul. Those Telecaster licks are sure great.. Waylon sounded like he was having a great time singing this song. Probably has to do with the wild times he had with "Tom Paul" when they were best buds.

ps: Waylon was really bad about ad-libbing when singing live... thats why he said Tompall.....

"Tompall" Glaser is not two names and Waylon didnt write the song. Daleb85 is correct.

Oh absolutely the Telecaster licks are top notch, and so are Ol' Moon's Steel Guitar chops.
