  • @awanna3203 - couldn't have put it better myself!! Thumbs up!

  • man i thinked kate bush fans loved human way of expressing and not only here voice!

  • Fab tune From Kate, excellent acting from Robbie & a touch of madness from Noel!! all round a Great v.t & brillient tune!! xxx

  • I'm fond of this song, but really, the message is so very grandmaish.

  • I love this woman!!!

How I'd like a Kate video with Sitgirl & Handicapped Superheroes!!!

  • 5.25 for NOEL

  • @Ajyoung12345 thanks....wish i'd seen your post before...

  • @ ACTUEL1 no it isn't Kate, I think it's Frances Barber or something like that...she's an actress. I'm pretty sure the mouth on the pc screen is Kate though!

  • Is it her coming in the room at 3;40 ??

  • all i can say is great acting from robbie

  • I love everything she does :-) thanks so much!

  • HAGRID!!!

  • To think Kate wrote this years ago....mind blowing!

  • This is hilarious.

  • I did not eat I did not sleep... until my family found me and intervened. I always loved this line -and the image it brought up, but this video ruins it - I'm even sure Kate didn't envisige it this way. There's no denying she ruined this song

  • @michaelleacy I respectfully disagree. This song, and much of this album was such a lyrical disappointment after Kate's earlier work. (Though musically as beautiful as can be!)

But this song, almost an embarrassment by her poetic standards, she modernizes and reveals parts of her vision left plain, uneven and clunky in the original. Brava to her for fighting the winds and going back to fix the things that had been broken.

  • 5:28 Noel Fielding. Enjoy! I love Kate Bush :)

  • Watching this high = mind fuck

  • i personally prefer the original version. great video!

  • lol. what.

  • *mouths words*

    What the fu......

  • Kate Bush has done a wonderful job keeping up with the music industry! And the autotune sounds amazing in this song, as it usually does if it's used in the right place..

  • Noel is adorable in this. Your argument is invalid.

  • prophetic

  • Oh And I dont understand why they are laughing at Poor Robbie Coltrane.

  • I think this is an awesome video and Robbie Coltrane did an awesome job with the acting. This song is one of my favorites. Kate Bush is awesome great job Kate Bush and Robbie Coltrane.

  • She can use that auto-tune as long as she feels like it!! She is KATE BUSH for god's shake!! This song is one of the greatest ever written in my opinion. So insightful and full of passion! And if you ask me, this version is clearly more complete than the 1989 original version! Not that I don't love that too!!

  • are you for real??? I mean kate didn't even use it (the autotune) on HER OWN VOICE! she used it on her son's voice to make him sound like the computer the song is about. seriously how thick you are people?

  • Kate Bush feat. Trio Bulgarka,The Mystery Of Bulgarian Voices !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • omg...I just found out Noel Fielding was in this...Noel and Kate....yeaaiiiya!!!

  • And loving the bit at 2.27!!!

  • Kate is a genius!!

  • I bet Noel was so chuffed to be in this. :)

  • why did Hagrid kill Vince Noir?

  • This is a sad moment for me, one of my favourite vocalist/songwritters, scrub that one of my top 3 artists of all time....

I never thought I would see the day where I would hear something she has made and not like it ...Someone of her talent shouldnt be going near an autotune its insulting tbh.

Just because autotune is out there it doesnt mean it should be used, autotune is for unskilled/untalented singers or people with little confidence in their voice/lyrics..

Kate is anything but this :(

  • I was loving that till Noel died, but seriously, i'm loving Kate Bush at the moment, But I did only watch it for Noel, so thank you Noel for leading me too this lovely song :-)

  • HAGRID

  • Thanks to Kate I don't need a little black box to get deeper understanding, this song gives it to me.. lovely song

  • I like the old version better when it comes to the computer voice, this one just kind of takes away from the song. Though I was surprised to find. Haggrid sitting at the computer

  • i didn't like that. it was upsetting and weird.

  • He's a Goth, you have to stake the heart!

  • Was just waiting the whole way through to see Noel...

  • @LottieBabe263 same here! :D

  • I've been jamming to this tune a lot recently. It's bonkers! Love it!

  • did kate bush participate in this remake??

  • @szivalj Kate did it. It is one of her reworkings that make up her latest album called "Directors' Cut". I was at the shop before it opened to get it.

  • weirdest pretentious freak show shit

  • This video...completely confused me. I love the song because it brings a tear to my eye, but seeing what went on and having a guest star like Robbie Coltrane do weird things is just a head scratcher. Kate would have been better off without a video for this song.

  • @TheMagiere775 i don't really think it needed a video the song gives you all the info you need.

  • That was.. surreal.

  • woah, took me awhile to realise that was hagrid.. man this filmclip is jam packed with some crazy talent. I love that instead of the two sad lonely people bonding, he decides to kill the other one instead of find refuge in a similar lonliness

  • Could have this as a bonus feature on the video of Black Mirror.

  • What does it mean?

    Whys Noel Fielding in there?

  • HAGRID WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING TO VINCE STOP TOUCHING HIM

  • Noel........ where's you're red dress? X)

  • WTF!! I honestly would like a "Deeper Understanding" as to what the fucking hell is with this total suck fest of a video! What is Robbie"Hagrid"Coltrane doing in the video much less why it comes off too much like Videodrome! Love the song and I am a big Kate Bush fan but this video was about as unwatchable as was Videodrome! Ironic eh?!

  • @NightWatchMan0111671

Gotta agree; love the song but the video was a pretty mess that coulda been better executed in many ways.

  • @MarcusDarling4026 No doubt about it! Thanks a lot for your comment MarcusDarling!

  • @NightWatchMan0111671 i don't think that the 1983 Cronenberg movie was that bad...

  • We need one more 'new' version sans auto-tune. If only because it's been embraced for all the wrong reasons here in the states, especially in advertising. It's obvious that they took another look at the track, realized they had something akin to a time machine and overplayed their hand in an attempt to complete the illusion. The original was mystifying because we knew she was AGAIN seeing the future hand the emotions it would provoke.

  • just come back kate!! put your nikes on and just doe it!!

  • @calo3152

    Nikes?

I think she "took her shoes off and threw them in the lake; now she's two steps on he water!" lol

  • What's the big deal about her using autotune? Considering she's simulating a computer voice it only makes sense to use electronics to do so.

  • I couldn’t believe it once I found out this song was originally released in 1989 two years after my birth on the Album sensual world. Yet it couldn’t be more relevant then right now + .. as Skyrim almost killed me now Anno 2070 is finishing the job. This woman is such a delicate prophetess, I’m happy I’m listening

  • Superb

  • This song proves the theory that Kate Bush is 20 years ahead of her time.

  • Are we right in saying that's Kate at the start of the video playing the Mum, and also in the crowd of people pointing and laughing?

  • autotune.. we meet again.

  • 1:54 - Have you seen that this phrase is represented by heart?

  • wow, even kate bush is doing auto cue...

  • I truly can't believe this was written in the eighties, it just sounds so contemporary, it is portraying a lot of aspects of our era, like online relationships, it's just plain shocking how ahead of her time she was, a true genius. She like Cohen, Waits belong to a sacred musical elite, way above the pop bullcrap the world's filled with these days.

  • lmao this is the funniest random music video i have ever seen and when everyone starts laughing at robbie coltrane its just priceless this is my fav music video it cheers me up everytime i watch it

  • Ohh!!! I just love this new version! The story becomes clearer and poignant. Touching song.

  • 05:50 Transformers Autobot City Metroplex !!!

  • Noel Fielding? Was not expecting that!

  • The original was already stunning, this one even exceeds the expectations.

  • I actually really like the new chorus. I like the old one too, but I think I actually prefer the new one.

  • All I can think about is Robbie killing Noel. Noooooooooooooooo!

  • A disappointing clip. Enough said.

  • Bred!

  • Does anyone know if Kate herself is in this video? And is her son in it too (I know he sings the computer part)?

  • B R I L L I A N T !

    She`s outstanding and excellent.

  • wow this video was amateur

  • Her son does the vocoder parts apparently. Certainly sounds like a young teenager to me (I have one in the house). I understand why some prefer the originals but give them a chance and they could grow on you. This one has the hairs standing up on the back of my neck.

  • What the hell is this?

  • @UndeadMarion Its Kate Bush's new single

  • Beautiful song, silly video!

  • The original was far better than this. I love Kate, but this is just horrible!

  • @LeeBryan76UK

It's hurts to say but you're right.

  • @LeeBryan76UK - I have to agree; this sounds closer to some kind of "raw edit" she may have done before completing "The Sensual World". The original was FAR more listenable, particularly the chorus. Kate's son could have been integrated with the original better, at least.

I don't really like the storyline of this video, either. I'd take another lyrical dance performance over this thing - the song seems to promote one kind of message, and the video is something completely different.

  • The new single Wild Man is equally amazing as this!!!!

Bizarre yet so accesible. The drums in this track are out of this world!!

  • I suppose the alternative title for this version could be 'Experiment 5.0.' :)

  • This is pure art inbetweenbeing online and iphones at all.

THX Kate for calm down....deeper understanding !

  • This is the strangest thing I have ever seen. It has completely blown my mind.

  • A true musician and artist, who has never exploited her sexuality, been vulgar in both vidoes or with her lyrics and has always maintained her own image, not modelled by the media or its money making parasites! Kate could definatley teach many of today's artists a thing or two!

  • A true musician and artist, who has never exploited her sexuality, been vulgar in both vidoes or with her lyrics and has always maintained her own image, not modelled by the media or its money making parasites!

  • Quality and professionalism as ever. Great work Kate!

  • she likes her wave patterns, like on the cover of aerial, te blackbird's song is the landscape, clever

  • YOURE A WIZARD HARRY!

  • Why couldn't Kate have appeared in the video? :(

  • Whilst we're on the subject of autotune and vocoders, they actually do precisely the same thing,. Both devices take a given frequency and change it to that which is desired. Never mind that though, because this tune is fucking boss!

  • @svc1978 autotune and vocoders are very different. A vocoder mixes two signals and outputs the sound of one at the pitch of the other. Autotune shifts the frequency of a sound either for effect or usually to try and cover the fact that the singer is not very good.

In short vocoders mix two signals, autotune modifies one.

  • @chailey666 My bad!

  • @svc1978

not entirely true auto tune is a process where a vocal or note is automatically re-pitched to the assumed correct tone (or any key you specify)

whereas the vocoder is a device that allow vocals through when another signal (such as a chord) is present. (and viceversa) The end effect may sound similar but the process is not the same.

Its like the difference between a grand piano and a soft synth. ..there are similarities but the methods differs substantially.

  • A great artist takes risks. Actually, it's not a risk for them. It's the direction dictated by inspiration. You may or may not like it, but that makes a great artist in my opinion.

  • To the autotunes/vocoder argument, there is nothing wrong with both, as long as it's not your only trick. :))

It works for the concept of this song. Get it Kate :)

  • You are right about it being vocoder. I referred to autotune because I was replying to rmk4362's reference to it being autotune. But it is fun to fling ignorant insults too - especially at Americans.

  • Hot alternative version. It works with the theme. Love the album as well. Kate is sick!

  • As a a Kate Bush fan I think she is totally off the mark here! Christ she is old now but come Kate embrace it! Am I missing the point of this? The Kylie voice actually makes it sound OK but it turns into a non-chalant nothingness and I wait for her to sing and powerfully inject her voice into it but it falls so flat of the point that I want to physically shake her into her wierd state she used to be! Come into our world Kate, just for one day! We were commoners once like you..I still love you x

  • As a very long time Kate fan, I am bewildered by this. I think the original was great, and this song extremely prescient at the time when PCs were very new and the internet unheard of. I loved the great arrangement of the original that was far more atmospheric. I have to say that I think the video is a bit naff, and the whole exercise seems unnecessary. I have to say I do have great respect for this lady, and Sensual world is one of my all time favourite albums.

  • It's very interesting to see that Peter Gabriel has also just revisited his old stuff, with new arrangements, including full orchestrations. I'm wondering if his fans are also going insane with rage that he dared to touch those songs he re-did, and if they're insulting him with comments like "out of ideas" and other such nonsense. Joni Mitchell re-recorded several of her songs with orchestra, and I don't remember anyone having a cow.

  • @0MirrorGirl Hi, I do not understand why anyone would be upset, I welcome any new arrangements from kate and peter.

  • The voice console's lips are very Beckettian.

  • I love Director's Cut, The Red Shoes and the Sensual World. Director's Cut doesn't erase the other two albums so I don't get why people get so worked up over it. If you don't like DC, you still have the old albums. Personally, I prefer this Deeper Understanding to the 1989 version, and I prefer the 1989 versions of the rest of the tracks but I still love Director's Cut, it's great to hear different takes on such old classics.

  • @0raj11 I agree, and considering that Kate thought "The Line, The Cross & The Curve" was "a load of bollocks", I can't fathom the idea of her thinking this video wasn't just as embarrassing if not worse.

  • The original had a sinister, haunting sound to it that is completely lost on this version, her voice sounds horrible, specially when she sings "Are you lonely? Are you lost?" and the additional 2 minutes are completely unnecessary. The only good reworking in Director's Cut is This Woman's Work and it still doesn't come close to the original.

  • She didn't have to use autotune. She did it to sound like a computer. I suppose you are American and you don't get irony. I suppose you thought the Trio Bulgarka couldn't afford instruments either.

  • @TheNick279 SHE DIDN'T USE AUTOTUNE (for the millionth time). she used a VOCODER both this time and on the original recording. They do opposite things: Autotune pulls a false note up or down to a true one so the voice stays "in tune". With a vocoder the voice is deliberately distorted to hit whatever notes you want to hit. THE TWO DEVICES DO OPPOSITE THINGS.

Doesn't anyone bother to read about what they're commenting on, or is it just more fun to fling ignorant insults?

  • @0MirrorGirl LOL...after reading your comments I'm totally in love with you LOL

  • Aww poor Noel :( I'm sure he was happy being in a Kate Bush video though, even for a few moments :3

  • I didn't like the video until Noel showed up, now I love it

  • The version off The Sensual World album is a lot better!!!

  • Love Kate Bush but I can't bear all these silly film collaborations with ..Robbie Coltrane, Rowan Atkinson, Miranda Richardson, Hugh Laurie, Noel Fielding... your music is divine don't kill it with these naff, low budget, unfunny vids

  • The eyes in the computer program at the end look like Michael Buble's eyes.

  • Wow, Kate is using Auto Tune-kill me now! This is a joke right? Her creativity goes so far beyond having to use the lamest audio "accelerator" of all time. This is sad because the original version of this song is excellent. A Sensual World was great, Red Shoes was self indulgent and her worst album so I can see her trying to remix and sell that one but not Sensual World. Really, just compare this version to the original-that says it all. Sorry Kate, this is coming from a true fan.

  • @rmk4362 She's not just using it for the sake of her sounding better like most pop 'artists'. It's part of the piece in making herself sounding artificial to match the themes of the lyrics. Personally I think this makes her more creative and this is just as good as the original.

  • @rmk4362 Check out Bon Iver's "Woods"

    watch?v=NtDitmjhLvQ

Whilst many people will agree that AutoTune is faking EVIL in the hands of pop-producers and lame vocalists, real genuine artist, who I'm sure also despise it, sometimes take to using it to show what can be done creatively with it.

In this case here, Kate is using AT to enforce the artificial nature of "Robbies" companion. It's meant to sound off... befitting the relarionships people have with virtual companions and online activity.

  • Comment removed

  • @rmk4362 But a true fan would know it's called "THE Sensual World", not "A Sensual World". ;)

  • @rmk4362

Sorry to say but I must agree. There is elements of greatness in the remix but auto tune has killed this for me!

  • Hagrid

  • why did the ruin the chorus to this.

  • this one is weaker than the original, IMHO, with full respect to kate - but it's not enough to tinker with voices and put some (a little) electronics into a piece to make it innovative - ... it's not unnatural - i mean you can't go having such inspiration forever, or pretend to be a genius all the time..

  • See the way the music envelopes the stressed-out businessman, and he relaxes, a smile coming tro his face as he surrenders to it. That's the way I feel every time I listen to this amazing woman.

  • this sounds like shit. compared to the original recording. this version LACKS EMOTION.

  • This song does sound good. There is only one song on Directors Cut that I didn't like and that was "This Womans Work". It just doesn't sit well with the heart wrenching origianl

Name me any other artist or group that their fans are willing to wait years even a decade or more between albums. I think Kate is the only one who could get away with that.

  • can massively relate to this song right now :( hit the nail on the head kate.

  • Kate Bush NEVER ceases to amaze with the amount of talent and vision that she has,I've been following her now since the 80's and am still in love with her artistry...

  • @MrRugbyloosehead To everyone who hated this, is fine, BUT,everyone has missed the point of what she was trying to do , she has taken some of her songs and reinterpreted them as in she COVERED HER OWN SONGS , what a fresh and unique approach , I'm sure she could have release something new(new album this fall) but she did something different and I'm sure spontaneous, all you have to do is look at the woman's career to see she ALWAYS been a maverick and gone her own way no matter what the trend

  • @MrRugbyloosehead The trouble is it is well known it is a dangerous thing to cover a Kate Bush song, even by the artist herself. It was even said on the radio when they were talking abuot it pre release. Her songs are classics and her fans are very loyal to them and her. She knnew it was risky and took a chance, on all but one song in my opinion it paid off.

Now ghere's hoping for a new album, 10 years isn't long to wait for a Kate classic.

  • HAGRID KILLED VINCE! :O

    NOOO THE BASTARD

  • Remember back in 1989, when this song still sounded good?

  • This track make me realize how I should turn off the computer and go outside, read something, take care of important stuff, hang out with my parents, etc. - instead of wasting precious time in front of the computer. It's all right to surf the web a while, but not for hours and hours. Kate is the best!

New album due November 21 - "50 Words For Snow" (Official!!!!) =)

  • Noel is so adorable.

  • is this how robbie coltrane is after kfc runs out of family buckets pmsl :)

  • Didn't expect The Mighty Boosh !

  • I loved it as it was,it meant somethign to me then, powerfuly so, without painting it again.

  • Lovely song Kate, Greatings Karel Hellebrekers The Netherlands

  • Lovely song Kate, Greatings Karel Hellebrekers, The Netherlands

  • NOEL MARRY ME PLEASE?

  • I`m not keen BUT I suspect in 10 years I will love it. She is so far ahead.

  • I've been a U.S. "fan" of Kate since 1978, and I'm always intrigued by the element of violence in her music and videos. Obviously, this is no exception, and, for it, it attracts me--consider it the violence in me and which we all have. After all, she sang, "Harm is in us...harm in us but power to arm..." Love this human being and her work. This is masterful. She knows what she's doing.

  • What a shitty song. Where has her talent gone?

  • @iamBizarreMonster You do know that this is only a remake, right? The original song's about 21 years old now (released in "The Sensual World", her 1989 album) and remade for her new (own) label "Fish People". Maybe you should listen to the original version :)

  • @iamBizarreMonster I didn't know that. Thank you! I like the old version.

  • I'm a huge fan of Kate's work, but I can't work out why she's got such a lisp in this version of Deeper Understanding. It's the first time I hear a lisp in any of her songs actually. It is a tad distracting, but that doesn't take away that I love this song!

  • @Kevin00405

shes a computer as you can see its a voice effect . the whole song.

  • @kedordu I doubt that, as the lisp is in pretty much every one of her new songs (or remakes). Never be mine, for example, has it too. Her cybernetic voice in the chorus is indeed a sound effect, but I doubt the lisp in the rest of the song is.

  • Totally killed the song ...Why? Hate the phrase changing ....just wuined the song ...and also very stupid video ...

  • Hagrid! Why'd you have to go and strangle Noel! :(

  • I really don't like this version at all.

  • HAGGER!

  • I was squeeling like a little bitch when seeing Kate Bu
