when i use my reflector, i got problems with all colors.
black is almost to yellow. its good for black people in shadow.
Silver does a too hard light, so i uses this only in shadow or bad weather.
but white makes me sick. it doesnt do anythink in most of my outdoor shots, even if im close as possible to the subject and try to give a fill light from the sun :/ i do not know what i am doing wrong
I almost never use gold. White is best for fill using the sun. I find silver or the gold/silver "zebra" side is best and most efficient for bouncing flash.
Awesome and inspiring. I have been wanting to try the flash bouncing outdoors, and your video has given me some ideas. I have a question about the light metering...How do I measure for two lights? In the studio, you get your ratio and then get the measurement of both lights combined and that is what you set your camera to. How does this apply to being outside where you have to measure ambient light as well?
Thanks! It's pretty much the exact same as in the studio, only you first set the ambient exposure then adjust the flashes to fit with the ambient. I go into great detail in my blog, just search for bouncing light video!
Did you made a casting call for the model ? what about the makeup ? and how did you change the wardrobe on location ? Did you pay the model or exchange prints? What camera are you using, is buying a old 5D better than a new 550D ?
Sorry I am bombing you with questions but I feel that you are the right guy to ask !
YOU HAVE AMAZING WORK considering the limited equipment you use !
Hi Guys, i just saw the video and It's amazing!!! and the music is the best choise for video...... What's the name of the song and who sing this song... I love it!!

Hey PhotoGWC I still have my 430 ex but am about to add a 580 to the mix... How many triggers will i need to run both flash guns off camera? I'm assuming 2 also do i have to buy something else to put on the hot shoe of my DSLR or does it come with the triggers? What brand triggers are you using? PS the video's the best thing on youtube in regards to Photography....How did the contest go? Thanks in advance man! JLR
thanks for the kind words...so far the contest results haven't been released! Still waiting...
As far as the question-you need a trigger for each flash and a transmitter for the camera's hot shoe. I am using the cyber syncs (paul c buff-the company that makes alien bees strobes) and they are awesome! but there are lots of options out there..check out strobist.com
@photoGWC Yeah I will check out Strobist.com.... I love Alien Bees I finally got to shoot using my instructors set up yesterday... Thats all he runs 3 b800 the green ones..Unfortunatly it got late and I wasn't able to quiz him on his set up..lol I'm definatly checking for The cyber syncs since they are made from the same people that make the AB strobes...Good looking out man and good luck on the contest..... later JLR
Hey PhotoGWC at 1:11 you look like Timothy Olyphant in HitMan all you need is the suit and the Barcode tat on the back of your head dude! lol He was a bad ass so no disrespect.... Just a small oberservation...
Hey can some body shoot me some info and a price on what i might spend on a kit like this? Some body said down the thread it was pretty inexpensive..I'm trying to research it but don't know where to begin.. I just bought a 430 ex II and have already got the urge to move forward from that? Thanks, JLR
not too much...you already have the flash which is the most expensive thing. The triggers are about $70 each, the light stand was about $50, the reflector can be had for about $30, you don't really need a meter (I got mine used on craigslist). All of these items have cheaper versions available and way more expensive versions too. I try to get the highest quality in the moderate price range since I'd rather spend up front for quality gear rather that replace cheap crap.
just some minor lightroom adjustments on most. Most of "the look" is just from lighting the model independently from the background, which allows you to underexpose the background a little.
Thanks for the upload PhotoGWC.....I'm a newb to strobes..... If you don't mind me asking did you have to use any special type of filters during the shoot? Great upload... keep up the great work....

Also, what side of the reflector is best? Gold, silver or the white? In which situations would I use which?

I was asking that can I get off with 35 f/1.8 ,50 f/1.8 & 85/1.8 or do I have to add in a zoom like sigma 17-50 f/2.8 ? I have a Nikon D90 !
