  • when i use my reflector, i got problems with all colors.

black is almost to yellow. its good for black people in shadow.

Silver does a too hard light, so i uses this only in shadow or bad weather.

but white makes me sick. it doesnt do anythink in most of my outdoor shots, even if im close as possible to the subject and try to give a fill light from the sun :/ i do not know what i am doing wrong

  • Also, what side of the reflector is best? Gold, silver or the white? In which situations would I use which?

  • @davidg1024

I almost never use gold. White is best for fill using the sun. I find silver or the gold/silver "zebra" side is best and most efficient for bouncing flash.

  • @davidg1024 nice..your the first i have seen that made great pics appear to be easy outside... with simple equipment

  • Respond to this video... in your video how do you determine to use external flash or not to ?

  • Awesome and inspiring. I have been wanting to try the flash bouncing outdoors, and your video has given me some ideas. I have a question about the light metering...How do I measure for two lights? In the studio, you get your ratio and then get the measurement of both lights combined and that is what you set your camera to. How does this apply to being outside where you have to measure ambient light as well?

  • @davidg1024

Thanks! It's pretty much the exact same as in the studio, only you first set the ambient exposure then adjust the flashes to fit with the ambient. I go into great detail in my blog, just search for bouncing light video!

  • Wow that was very informative, would really like to see more of how you do what you do with strobe!!!

  • Wow that was very informative, would really like to see more of how you do what you do with strobe!!!

  • Fabulous!

    Thanks for posting,

The Crotch Bounce will make history.

  • love the shot at 2:52

  • AWESOME !

Did you made a casting call for the model ? what about the makeup ? and how did you change the wardrobe on location ? Did you pay the model or exchange prints? What camera are you using, is buying a old 5D better than a new 550D ?

Sorry I am bombing you with questions but I feel that you are the right guy to ask !

YOU HAVE AMAZING WORK considering the limited equipment you use !

  • @punnu5997 these would be great questions to ask me on my facebook fan page :)

start a "new discussion" there and ask

    see you there?

  • thanks, and those lenses are more than enough! most of the video was shot with an 85 mm on a canon rebel!

  • Appreciate your work ! Very Very Cool ! Learned a Lot !

    I was asking that can I get off with 35 f/1.8 ,50 f/1.8 & 85/1.8 or do I have to add in a zoom like sigma 17-50 f/2.8 ? I have a Nikon D90 !

  • Thanks! The song credit is at the end of the video.

  • Hi Guys, i just saw the video and It's amazing!!! and the music is the best choise for video...... What's the name of the song and who sing this song... I love it!!

  • damn x3

  • WE WANT MORE VIDS PLEASE!!!

  • WOOWWW TANKS FOR YOUR TUTORIALS

  • pretty good your video! congrats ...

  • Very well done sir! I see you really master the light!

  • Hey PhotoGWC I still have my 430 ex but am about to add a 580 to the mix... How many triggers will i need to run both flash guns off camera? I'm assuming 2 also do i have to buy something else to put on the hot shoe of my DSLR or does it come with the triggers? What brand triggers are you using? PS the video's the best thing on youtube in regards to Photography....How did the contest go? Thanks in advance man! JLR

  • @Jlr405

thanks for the kind words...so far the contest results haven't been released! Still waiting...

As far as the question-you need a trigger for each flash and a transmitter for the camera's hot shoe. I am using the cyber syncs (paul c buff-the company that makes alien bees strobes) and they are awesome! but there are lots of options out there..check out strobist.com

  • @photoGWC Yeah I will check out Strobist.com.... I love Alien Bees I finally got to shoot using my instructors set up yesterday... Thats all he runs 3 b800 the green ones..Unfortunatly it got late and I wasn't able to quiz him on his set up..lol I'm definatly checking for The cyber syncs since they are made from the same people that make the AB strobes...Good looking out man and good luck on the contest..... later JLR

  • Finally, the results of the competition are starting to come out. So far you are still in the running for the top spot! Good Luck!!!

  • @Macrosill Thanks!

  • can u give me title and artistof this song?

  • @kriskaro

The song is Going back to NY by the Stone Coyote's

  • Excellent, Thank You!!

  • Do you use any Cto filters or other on flashes? What Lens do you used (what focal nad light - f./4.5 will be good?). Answer please ;) Thanks.

  • @kriskaro no filters on the flashes...used 3 lenses for the shoot...canon 85mm f/1.8, tamron 17-50mm f/2.8, and canon 35mm f/2.

  • Hey PhotoGWC at 1:11 you look like Timothy Olyphant in HitMan all you need is the suit and the Barcode tat on the back of your head dude! lol He was a bad ass so no disrespect.... Just a small oberservation...

  • hahaha...that guys is cool!

  • Hey can some body shoot me some info and a price on what i might spend on a kit like this? Some body said down the thread it was pretty inexpensive..I'm trying to research it but don't know where to begin.. I just bought a 430 ex II and have already got the urge to move forward from that? Thanks, JLR

  • not too much...you already have the flash which is the most expensive thing. The triggers are about $70 each, the light stand was about $50, the reflector can be had for about $30, you don't really need a meter (I got mine used on craigslist). All of these items have cheaper versions available and way more expensive versions too. I try to get the highest quality in the moderate price range since I'd rather spend up front for quality gear rather that replace cheap crap.

  • god bro

  • create stuff man! new to off camera strobist and this vid gave me some good ideas.

    thanks

  • how did you get this Nice dark and colorful result on these picture

    is it photoshopped ?

  • just some minor lightroom adjustments on most. Most of "the look" is just from lighting the model independently from the background, which allows you to underexpose the background a little.

  • Thanks for the upload PhotoGWC.....I'm a newb to strobes..... If you don't mind me asking did you have to use any special type of filters during the shoot? Great upload... keep up the great work....

  • thank you! No filters used on the lens and no gels used on the strobes for this shoot...just bare strobe!

  • Great video, and excellent use of a very portable kit! I'll have to keep the crotch bounce method in mind.

  • Kewl!

  • I'm suprised by the first pics. The reflected light is still to "harsh", just watch her eyes!

Still love the video. Keep up the good work.

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing your work.

  • Awesome shots and great video thanks for sharing.

  • Awesome shots. Do you have any tips for bouncing light off the splenic flexure?

  • THIS VIDEO IS AMAZING! OMG I THINK YOU SHOULD WIN THE COMPETITION! GREAT PHOTOGRAPHER, GREAT MODEL AND Crotch boy is sexy! WOOHOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dude, you are my inspiration. I have the same type of equipment you do,and now I know what to do with it. Thanks for sharing!
