The first band I ever saw in 1983...supporting Iron Maiden on 'The World Piece Tour'. Hanley Victoria Hall loved them....as other posters have concurred they blew Maiden away. Remember some people whistling impatiently as Samurai slowly started...by the first chorus the stalls were rocking as one, lapping up a great track and Mc Auleys distinctive voice.
That album remains a great legacy, full of awesome AOR hits that never were...buy it if you can find it....it still sounds amazing today!!
im sorry, but when you listen to some of the absolute sh*t on here, you really have to ask yourselves why bands like this never made it, you really do. tremendous. grand prix to date have NEVER done a bad song!
Saw them blow Iron Maiden away at the playhouse in 83 , samuri was a classic album and hope they would reform to give the fans a second chance to see them
This is a rather posey video with a rather bland track that really makes Grand Prix look an American AOR band. No wonder with this sort of promotion they failed to break through in the UK. And we have another drummer wearing shorts, just the image for college boy rock.
Most succesful HM bands are succesful because they dirty the image up.
In his early days, McAuley played it safe. but consider Schenker wanted Robin to sing for MSG as early as Assault Attack in 1982, from what I read, sounds interesting that they crossed paths
@gary47 In the midwest I'd never heard of them. When Robin finally did join the MSG band, he was referenced as EX Grand Prix vocalist, but I've never even seen their records here in MN. Odd, really odd. Robin is seen at NAMM 09 jamming on Schenker tunes, here on YT
saw these at the manchester apollo in 1982/3, they were backing up iron maiden ( i think ), i have this single on 7 inch picture disc still in perfect condition, lol.
3 albums - 1 with Bernie Shaw (Uriah Heep voc.) and 2 more with Robin McAuley. This is from 2nd. All available on CD. 1st has just bee re-issed with bonus tracks actually.
Saw them support Maiden in Edinburgh too. Blew them off the stage, even got an encore. 2 Great albums they made, as far as I know. Love to see them again !!!!!
Are they getting back together, i saw them supporting Iron Maiden in Edinburgh abosutely superb they were. Hope it happens they got the most amazing reception from the fans that night
Hey!... We saw them support Sammy Hagar - circa 82/83... made an impact as a support act which is rare. We've been looking for this video for ages! Not the prettiest of boys are they... and the video is cheesy.. but the song brings back memories. I think the singer ended up with Kingdom Come.
i saw these in 1982 suporting iron maiden! thought they were amazing then , wish they had gone further robin has a great voice and was great in msg... wonder what hes doing now?
@mradt1962 - I'm intrigued to know who exactly you think would benefit from reading your remark? Do tell!

I saw them supporting Iron Maiden in '83 at hammersmith odeon, they were great live.
Samurai is one of my favourite albums of all time, I still have my original copy and it still plays.

This was a band I remember hearing on "The Friday Rock Show" hosted by th
e Late Great Tommy Vance. They'd done an album called "There For None To See" (sadly prophetic..) which I remember seeing but never bought.
They should have been MASSIVE but after another album "Samurai" they sank without trace.
DELIGHTED with the posting, thanks very much.
If the reunion happens it may help them a bit.
