I like the quirky little abstract dixieland interpretation of Waltzing Matilda @ 3:10 and I wouldn't agree that the musicians lack musical ability; but that "the Con" can't 'teach' folks SOUL is a foregone conclusion. In fact, if anything...
Wow!!! Clearly one requires no musical ability whatsoever. Simply cobble together any collection of noises, and call it 'Art', and people will applaud - presumably because no-one wants to be seen to be the one calling it what it is - 9 minutes and 51 seconds of your life you'll never get back. I am reminded of the tale of 'The Emperor's New Clothes'.
@number1guitarplayer The same could be said about any style of music... for this specific style of music; have you considered that you're not listening hard enough?
@benknibb Hmmnn ... Food for thought. I do appreciate the sentiment; and clearly a persons ear becomes attuned to different types of music - but, isn't there a point at which something can no longer be described as music, but rather a collection of random noises. Some sort of cohesion and structure is surely what defines 'music', as opposed to just sounds. It's an interesting debate, though. Thanks for making me think about it.
