I agree with Yeager's choice of the 9x19mm. In magazines I keep reading about big calibers and new calibers. I don't care if the latest and greatest new bullet will destroy a tank in one hit. if it's not cheap enough to train with regularly, its not doing you much good at all when the time comes to use it.
I am not yet 21 yet and because of this I cannot buy and carry a handgun yet. I have been around firearms all of my life and have been taught safety and shooting fundamentals. I will be turning 21 in 4 months. I wish to carry on a regular basis as self-defense. Would you still recommend a Glock 19 9mm to someone as young as me? I am in shape, but not as big as you. I have been looking at Ruger LCP in .380 as it is smaller in comparison. Any input from you would be greatly appreciated.
Looking into buying a new pistol soon and I really like the M&P, from everything I've read its so close to the Glock its not even funny. Any reason sizable reason that I should be getting a Glock instead?
I'll go there, I'm one of those guys that the Glock 19 doesn't fit. It's just too small. 26 and 17 fit me like a glove, but the 19 pinches, such that it's really just enough less comfortable to affect my shooting. So, make mine a Glock, make it in 9mm, but don't make it a 19. That is all
James, I've been a 1911 lover for years.......at the range. When I cary it's an XDM (3.8" in 9mm) due to the # of rounds and 1911 like ergonomics that work well for me (I shoot well with the 1911 and the XDM). I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on the XDM as an alternative to the big G. Is the XDM a viable alternative to the Glock or just a botique Glock clone? There's lot of articles and etc. out there but in the end I greatly respect your opinon as you have been there and done "it."
I just got a Glock 19, it is my (first) carry gun. I shot it at the range yesterday, and had one major problem with the gun. The slide would fail to lock back after the last round, new mags, new gun, 115 and 124 FMJ rounds shot from a solid stance.
I use a M&P and not a Glock and yes it's because of the grip angle The feel of it is ok but the problem is when I close my eyes and point the gun and then open my eyes the Glock points way high and the M&P point almost if not right on target! I feel that is a valuable way to see if a gun is right for you because in competition or a life & death situation you don't want to think of how to point the gun you want to just point it aim and shoot! I also use 9mm for all defensive guns!
I havent looked at all the comments but is there any chance you might post some links to the holsters and other products you mentioned as well as where to by Corbon ammo (online preferably). That would make me and my (future) Glock 19 very happy.
Awesome video! well done, and when I got tired of spending thousands of dollars on guns that needed work or failed in their intended use, I chose to buy a Glock and came out much better suited. Thanks for being real and telling it like it is. It's about time someone CREDIBLE has something WORTH sharing! what a relief.... Subbed!
I found my way here from your "1911s suck" vid. :D I'm with ya all the way on this stuff. Ex mil now LEO here. I always bring up the ammo point when debating .45 vs 9mm. Someone will always say, what about .45 hollow points? I tell them, "my Glocks are my edc-ccw/duty pistols and I trust my life to them. For my home, I have an XD .45 full of hydra-shok goodness waiting for Mr Badguy... if he survives our Mossberg 500." ;) I'm a huge fan of Corbon as well. Great ammo. Also, I just now subscribed.
Thoughts on the Glock 26? I add the 19mag and a 19 barrel it's balistically a 19, if I want something a bit smaller, I go back to the 26 barrel and mag, it's amaller, or I can run any combination of the two. Great Video and I hope to make it to a TR class if you ever make it back to my state.
Can't wait to take a class with tactical response when I save up the money,
What do you think about all the drama with the gen 4 9mm glocks and some of the later gen 3 model 19's do you have any idea or have an inside scoop on when Glock is going to fix there issues with these I want a 2nd Glock 19 but don't want to risk a gen 4
hey james i have a glock 19 gen3 and i do armed security and i use federal 124 hst but i have your classes coming up soon for pistol and rifle. wat im tryin to say is im in virginia wat would be the quicks routes to get there.
I was going to get a 19 but ended up with a 23 due to the round limitations in the commie state of California. I do agree on it's size though since the 23 is the same size, it's perfect! Thanks for the awesome videos James, keep'em coming bro!
I agree with your statement about the 1911. That's why the 1911 isn't my first choice. I also agree with your statement about 9mm hollow points. This the same exact reason why I choose the nine also. I don't agree though that every handgun should be a Glock though. I have Glock's and think they are excellent handguns, but I don't think they are for everybody. I wish there was a handgun that was for everybody, but that sadly doesn't exist. Some day perhaps. Great video though. Keep it up.
I carry a Glock 19 daily and I agree with you sir 100%! Don't get me wrong, I love my 1911's but they are maintainance intensive , and I wanted a pistol that was totally reliable out of the box so I chose the 19. I have changed out the sights to the Redback One combat sights by 10-8 Performance and installed the Vickers tatctical slide stop lever and this baby shoots like a dream ! I sing the praises of the Glock 19 to all my friends and quite a few are carrying it now.
I personally like the Glock 17 but I guess the reason you say the 19 is because your killing 2 birds with one stone if you always train with your CCW.
As a fighting pistol and fighting rifle grad (Pueblo CO Oct 07) I preach and preach on this, and it's so hard to get to people to listen, especially LEO and military. I'm in the military and work for the TBI, so go figure. Also, while I love Corbon ammo, I personally prefer to use Hornady TAP ammo. Being from Nebraska, I always like to support a Nebraska business. How do you feel about Hornady stuff?
Gotta agree here, Ive shot Springfields, Kimbers, and a lot of other 1911's but I must say the best shooting gun and the one I shot most accurately with was a Glock 23. There is no place for 1911's in my arsenal, I can buy 3 great glocks for the price of a nice 1911.
Love your videos and your advice. I've been considering the change you recommended here and I'm now taking action. My only rub is drop the long beard. You're clearly smart and experienced, stand on those laurels. Dump the redneck chin music.
@JamesYeager AHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHAHAHHAAHA LAUGHING MY FUCKING ASS OFF!
I'd choose the stripper... (Right about now you're shaking your head like a Father who knows his son's mistake because he's been there and done that :)
@JamesYeager nicely done james, thats a good way to tell him to eat a dick, and try to get business out of him lol. im a big 1911 fan because i know it works. my unit in iraq was issued them and the kimbers we had took a ton of abuse. but you do bring a good point to the table in regards to firepower. personally i now carry a glock 27 because there are some days where i have to ankle carry and it just makes life easier to train with 1 gun. but i do run 15 rnd mags as as backup
Mr.yeager, i live in czech republic. Here, only lead bullets with fmj are allowed. No stell core, no hollow points. So, its my question, how does the 9mm fmj compare to .45 fmj? To make this even more shitty question, note that european .45 loads are weaker than US .45.
@JamesYeager I wonder, if the laws are written similar to New Jersey, if he could use EFMJ rounds like the Federal ones? For those in areas where EFMJ rounds are an option, but JHP is not, would you recommend these over normal FMJ? I'm not very familiar with them as I'm allowed to own hollow-points here.
It's a shame that many lawmakers want to put innocent bystanders at risk by not allowing the use of safer hollow-point ammunition.
James, Had a CAG member shoot my 19 with the Ameriglos a few months ago and swore he wanted to get a set. Let me know if you end up trying them out and your thoughts. Thanks, Jeff
James, I used to think the same thing as you about ghost ring sights on pistols, till I tried the Ameriglo sights. It seems to cut time to acquire front sight to target in half. You have got to try them, you might change your mind. Every officer and boot I show my Glock to is amazed at the difference. Stay safe. Jeff
All I shoot is 9mm and that pistol would be the G19, I shoot the G17 better at distance 25yd line. My carry load is Corbons 115gr +P JHP, Xs Big Dots, don't plan on buying them I have been just fine with notch and post Glock steel sights and I have fired on the bad guys before. I would take the $120.00 and instead of buying Big Dots, I would train with TR again.
How a Glock, or any other gun for that matter, fits in your hand isn't about hand size, but about personal preference. Big hands, little hands, fat hands, skinny hands, all are built a little different. What works for some, doesn't work for others.
James, Amen Brother. I have them all, but I train with my Glock 19 with Ameriglo ghost ring sights as my primary. Also use Galco leather for the weapon as well as double mag carrier. I would pick the Glock up out the door way before I would take the Kimber or the new HK45.
@chipleyfla - Ghost ring sights on a pistol to dot work effectively. Anyone who truly understands how an aperture sights work will know that unless the ring is very close to the eye it cannot "ghost out" (i.e. "ghost ring"). At arms length it just turns into a really small set of sights.
I will! I took a combat focus carbine class with Rob Pincus this past July and he talked about a class he attended of yours reguarding the AK. Do you know of any sling mounts that attach to the rear of the AK's reciever where the stock attaches to like on an AR? I can't seem to find any but Loesse Hills Tactical is working on one I think.
@JamesYeager I'll look into the SOE slings, thanks for the heads up. Can they convert from a single point to a 2 point sling? I like having that option. Also what is you favorite AK? What do you think of the milled Arsenal Inc. AK's? I have had great experiences using them.
I love how people who have never been in a gunfight, never drawn their pistol except in for in the mirror, naked with a drop leg holster on can talk ballistics. Have just come back from AFG as a contractor assigned to SOCOM you haters are all out of wack. SF has the G19...idiots. MARSOC dropped the Kimber 1911 for G19's, AFSOC has the G19, and the Teams are trading their new H&K .45's in for G19. So suck it you Call of Duty educated chair warriors! They are all switching to G19 because it alw
@9mmParabellum0321 Well I was trying to say before You Tube cut me off was that it always works unlike others and if USSOCOM is getting requests at the user level to go to Glock 19 (and they are dropping dudes left and right with them everyday!) then that ought to tell you it works. Plain and simple!
I love my GLOCK : Low bore axis makes aiming more like pointing naturally. It reduce Muzzle flip when firing, so recovery is quicker and groupings tighter. Has no hammer which allows the grip to extend to the bottom of the slide, increasing grip and reducing felt recoil. Unlike a double action semi-auto, every trigger pull is identical. hammerless action allowes for a longer barrel - up to an inch longer than other makes of firearms of the same size. - this means enhanced accuracy.
Good vid. I found the vid a bit tongue and cheek, but the the truth is most new guns are turning into glocks! My go to gun is a 17.
I picked up the Walther PPQ recently, why? Because it's like a Glock the fire control group is very glock like. Just better ergos than the 19 for me. Love the the Gen 2 glock 19. Thanks for the vids.
Sir I agree with you 100%. If anyone doubts the reliability of a glock watch the 1000 round torture test on tactical response page and watch as the guide rod melts and still continues to function.
I have the hands of an over grown sasquatch and I love my Glocks. I'm a 40s&w guy but I agree with your assesment of the 9mm vs 45 debate, technology has made it a mute point.
For years and years I would only carry my Glock 9mm w/ Cor Bon ammo. My EDC now is a Beretta with Ranger SXT 127 +P+ ammo in a Desantis Speed Scabbard but when people who are new to guns ask for a gun recommendation I will almost always recommend a Glock 19. It's the perfect gun for beginners and most instructors seem to either carry those or a 1911. I carry the Beretta mainly because I've trained with it so much it's like part of my right hand. I like the vid. Cheers.
@jtasgl88 - Yes. The guns works as-is and need no modifications. People that put lighter triggers in them should take a class and learn how to shoot instead.
Well, I don't have the hands of a nine year old girl. My hands are more like the supple hands of a prepubescent 16 year old girl with budding breast. But, all my Glocks: 4 G27's (9mm), 1 G36, and 2 G30's (.45) have had their grips trimmed down by Robbie Barkman at ROBAR.
you should probably try different guns. the people that say glock doesnt fit their hand... they mean its not very comfortable compared to other guns out there. with what you are preaching ammo capacity is more important than stopping power. this video should be titled everygun should be an xdm since it holds more rounds than a glock and passed all the same tests with ease. glocks are great guns but definately not the best. i have 9mm but would never use it over a .45 for self defense
@llwrdlfstyl _ I base my opinion on being a Tactical trainer for 15 years and training 15,000 people that fired 15,000,000 rounds. What do you base your opinion on?
@JamesYeager (rolling my eyes). if you have all of this so called experience than you should know better. 9mm is not a man stopper. dont give me that shot placement crap either. look at 50cent. shot 9 times 1 of which to the face and obie trice shot in the head. both with a 9mm and both are absolutely fine. its a pea shooter. cant send a woman (9mm) to do a mans job (45). oh and btw i found this video on a forum. you are getting torn up bad for it
@llwrdlfstyl - As far as my getting torn up on the internet they join a long line of faceless losers that will never be in combat sitting in the basement of their mom's house in front of a computer with a bag of Cheetos and an orange dick posting on the internet, between sessions playing World of Warcraft, as if they know anything about being a WARRIOR. If ANY of them would ever grow a set of balls and say something to my face we could settle this once and for all.
@llwrdlfstyl Which forum? bARforum, or another loser forum full of whiny bitches who think a 100 year old pistol design is the pinnacle of firearms technology?
@llwrdlfstyl I'm trying to understand. People lived after being shot with 9mm so it sucks? That must mean that the people who lived through hits with a .45 means .45 sucks. I've seen guys live through multiple rifle hits.... Guess NATO calibers and 7.62x39 are women as well.
(cont.) easier to find at times--not sure if that's because people buy up all the 9mm, because of all the police agencies using .40, or what? This has made me consider buying a .40, and if I did I'd probably get an M&P as they were originally designed to handle the .40 rather than being beefed up from a 9mm. The cartridge, in theory, seems like a good compromise, but it's a bit snappy. .45 makes more sense for open carry if you can't use JHPs, or if your mag capacity is limited.
I'm not sure Glock is the only viable striker fired pistol anymore, but they were the first. I like Glocks, XDs, M&Ps, SR-9s, as well as FN's handguns. H&Ks are great guns too but pricey. Haven't really shot a PX4. SIGs I like but I hear their quality control isn't what it used to be, and they're a little chunky for daily carry. I agree 100% on 9mm--it's good enough for the military, and we have the advantage of JHPs. Cheaper to practice with, etc. Although, it does seem like .40S&W can be
What other guns are there? All mine are Glocks !!!
(Now I'm not all that solid on the 9 mm thing !!!)
I was sold at the very first defensive handgun class I took, watching others with 1911s, Sig's, etc. fight with their weapons while the Glock owners spent their time learning to shoot.
Thanks James .... several friends will not listen to me on this issue so having someone of your stature make my case for me is HUGE. If I did not care about these friends I wouldn't waste my time trying to wake them out of their 1911 stupor but the Glock as primary /EDC in my opinion is hands down the best choice ! More rounds down range, more mags on my person, more dependable , more affordable and on and on it goes...... Thanks again .... will be sending link to the " 1911 Blind " friends.
My hands are smaller than a 9 YO girls's... just kidding. I used to dog Glocks until I got a G19... it's an awesome gun! Thanks for a very informative video -- especially the fat girl/ stripper analogy. Very deep. LOL!
I carry a Glock 19 in a Galco IWB as me concealed carry. Sometimes my gun prints though. Any thoughts on printing (whether or not you worry about it too much)? I do my damndest not to physically let someone "see" the pistol but I still run into issues with it printing. I have tried multiple places to carry it in the waistband.
i agree with the kid who previously approached you.. yes, you really look scary.. nowadays, everybody wants a glock.. can you give it to me as a present? lol
You have no idea how timely this vid is for me. I keep going back and forth with what to buy for concealed. Your explanation is very informative. Thank you.
AMEN!

LeaveItToBeaner 2 months ago
Couldn't agree with you more on the Glock 19. !911 fan forever, but I carry the G19 out of preferrence.

Mr.yeager, i live in czech republic. Here, only lead bullets with fmj are allowed. No stell core, no hollow points. So, its my question, how does the 9mm fmj compare to .45 fmj? To make this even more shitty question, note that european .45 loads are weaker than US .45.
DudeNumberOnePlus 2 months ago
@DudeNumberOnePlus - (mm ball will kill people just as dead as .45 and holds more bullets.
JamesYeager 2 months ago

@chipleyfla - Hey Jeff - They break ALL the time in our classes. Its XS Big Dots for me.
JamesYeager 2 months ago
@JamesYeager Thanks for the heads up on the Ameriglos. Broken sights are not good. Stay safe, Jeff
chipleyfla 2 months ago
James, I used to think the same thing as you about ghost ring sights on pistols, till I tried the Ameriglo sights. It seems to cut time to acquire front sight to target in half. You have got to try them, you might change your mind. Every officer and boot I show my Glock to is amazed at the difference. Stay safe. Jeff

chriscat88 2 months ago
@chriscat88 - I recommend Galco, Blade-Tec and Kobelson Leatherworks.
JamesYeager 2 months ago
All I shoot is 9mm and that pistol would be the G19, I shoot the G17 better at distance 25yd line. My carry load is Corbons 115gr +P JHP, Xs Big Dots, don't plan on buying them I have been just fine with notch and post Glock steel sights and I have fired on the bad guys before. I would take the $120.00 and instead of buying Big Dots, I would train with TR again.
9mmParabellum0321 2 months ago
@9mmParabellum0321 - I PROMISE you that XS Sights are superior for shooting people.
JamesYeager 2 months ago
How a Glock, or any other gun for that matter, fits in your hand isn't about hand size, but about personal preference. Big hands, little hands, fat hands, skinny hands, all are built a little different. What works for some, doesn't work for others.
metallica454 2 months ago in playlist Uploaded videos
@metallica454 - Then by your logic chairs don't fit all asses.
JamesYeager 2 months ago
James, Amen Brother. I have them all, but I train with my Glock 19 with Ameriglo ghost ring sights as my primary. Also use Galco leather for the weapon as well as double mag carrier. I would pick the Glock up out the door way before I would take the Kimber or the new HK45.
chipleyfla 2 months ago

SkagSig40 2 months ago
@SkagSig40 - My 30 something AKs all have SOE single point slings on them. They do not need any adapter and work GREAT.
JamesYeager 2 months ago

Cheers.

Well, I don't have the hands of a nine year old girl. My hands are more like the supple hands of a prepubescent 16 year old girl with budding breast. But, all my Glocks: 4 G27's (9mm), 1 G36, and 2 G30's (.45) have had their grips trimmed down by Robbie Barkman at ROBAR.
walloon8814 2 months ago
you should probably try different guns. the people that say glock doesnt fit their hand... they mean its not very comfortable compared to other guns out there. with what you are preaching ammo capacity is more important than stopping power. this video should be titled everygun should be an xdm since it holds more rounds than a glock and passed all the same tests with ease. glocks are great guns but definately not the best. i have 9mm but would never use it over a .45 for self defense

@llwrdlfstyl _ I base my opinion on being a Tactical trainer for 15 years and training 15,000 people that fired 15,000,000 rounds. What do you base your opinion on?
JamesYeager 2 months ago
@JamesYeager (rolling my eyes). if you have all of this so called experience than you should know better. 9mm is not a man stopper. dont give me that shot placement crap either. look at 50cent. shot 9 times 1 of which to the face and obie trice shot in the head. both with a 9mm and both are absolutely fine. its a pea shooter. cant send a woman (9mm) to do a mans job (45). oh and btw i found this video on a forum. you are getting torn up bad for it

The cartridge, in theory, seems like a good compromise, but it's a bit snappy. .45 makes more sense for open carry if you can't use JHPs, or if your mag capacity is limited.
wcropp1 2 months ago
I'm not sure Glock is the only viable striker fired pistol anymore, but they were the first. I like Glocks, XDs, M&Ps, SR-9s, as well as FN's handguns. H&Ks are great guns too but pricey. Haven't really shot a PX4. SIGs I like but I hear their quality control isn't what it used to be, and they're a little chunky for daily carry. I agree 100% on 9mm--it's good enough for the military, and we have the advantage of JHPs. Cheaper to practice with, etc. Although, it does seem like .40S&W can be
